Moe??s Southwest Grill recently opened a restaurant in the new Bartonsville Plaza on Route 611, and I recently tried it for the first time. I??ve never heard of them before, so I wasn??t sure what to expect. I like Mexican food, but I??m very picky about what goes on my tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, and so on. Basically, I only like chicken, cheese, and some sort of non-chunky salsa. Moe??s makes every order in front of the customer, assembly-line style, so you control exactly what you get.

Since it is a new restaurant in the area, it was fairly busy when we arrived, but the line still went fairly fast. The tables were clean, the atmosphere was lively and casual, and the workers were very friendly. Everyone behind the counter seemed to be having a genuinely good time doing their job. My very plain chicken and cheese soft taco was made exactly as I wanted in a timely manner. The prices were very reasonable. My meal was less than $5 with a soda. The free chips and salsa bar are a nice touch.

The food was good, but a little on the cold side. I??m not sure if it is supposed to be that way, but I would have preferred a warmer chicken taco. I tried three of the salsas available. The Moe??s special house salsa was excellent. I like my chip-dip salsa to be thick, but not too chunky. The house salsa was perfect- thick with very fine chunks of tomato, not too spicy, not too bland. The medium salsa, which I put on my taco, was slightly zingier than the medium salsas bought from a store. Very good taste. The hot salsa, however, was way too hot for me. I only tasted a very small amount of it and was in mild pain for the rest of the meal. Of course, the spiciness of any salsa is completely subjective. What??s hot to me may be mild to another.

The atmosphere and speed of ordering makes it a kid friendly place, but my son would never eat anything off the rather limited kids menu. I understand that other typical kid meals would not fit in with the overall theme of the restaurant, so I won??t hold this against them, but I won??t be able to eat there with my son. If your child does enjoy Mexican food, Moe??s is a great alternative to the usual fast food restaurant
