I used to donate $100/year to the Humane Society of Cowlitz County, and since needing their services, now I don't. My dog ran off after deer and got lost when she was off-leash on a walk on logging roads and was picked up by animal control within 2 hours of getting loose, but it was just after business hours on a Saturday evening. I continued to look for her on the logging roads all weekend and had to wait until the Humane Society opened Monday morning to check with them, as the recording of found dogs was not updated outside of business hours. I called and went in as soon as they opened. I was chastised because my dog escaped from the holding pen they put her in and had wandered loose in a storage area. When I got her back she was soaked in urine and her muzzle was raw. But worst of all, she was there for over 40 hours and NO ONE HAD SCANNED FOR HER CHIP. A fax had already gone out to the vets listing her as a found dog, but she hadn't been scanned. I took her to the vet to get her wounds checked out, and was severely reprimanded by the vet tech for not having her chipped, because she had seen the fax---and I was totally bewildered. All my animals are chipped.
