I recently had a horrible experience with the EC SPCA. I adopted a cat on 12/9/11, and it turned into a nightmare. He was supposed to be 5 yrs & healthy. He had chronic diarrhea. I took him back to the SPCA, on the advice of my Vet. She found he had other concerning health issues. I had him in my home 3 separate times, because the SPCA told me his diarrhea was cured. - BUT - He continued to have persistant diarrhea.
*Note when I took him back for recheck visit, I was told he was 10 yr old, not 5 yrs.
The 3rd time I brought him home, he was sneezing & running nose. I have 2 other old cats which subsequently got sick from this cat.
My one cat was so sick, could not eat, bloody nose, sores in mouth. He was in hospitalized in isolution, for 3 days & nights. On IV fluids & 3 types of meds. I got my other cat on med immediately, so fortunately he did not get as ill. They were on med for 3 weeks, and one of them is still on antibiotics. This ordeal was very costly emotionally & financially. (Over $1,000) I am a Senior Citizen on a fixed income.
This situation was the fault of this SPCA - They are not screening the animals properly - They are adopting out unhealthy animals.
Due to the negligence on their part, my cats caught a very serious virus, which could have killed them.
This facility should be investigated for unsanitary conditions & incompetence of the health care staff. I urge anyone that has had a similar situation or any type of complaint to make it public.
I wanted to give a poor homeless cat a good forever home, and turned out to be a disaster. I want reimbursement!!!
