Despite enormous efforts from teachers, this school has been a great disappointment for my family. The new principal has interpreted the emphasis on academics as a scapegoat for limiting student access to creative programs such as music, drama, and art. Students feel no sense of school pride, and the school atmosphere is defined by fear and submission.

My children have attended this school since before the change in principals, if I could move, I would. The new principal has taken so much away from the students. The entire atmosphere isn't a great one. Communication is horrible & the Principal refuses to listen & hear the parents concerns before she dismisses them. They used to have much more in the way of activities alone. When a bulk of good teachers leave a school, it's a bad sign. My children are not happy attending JH Brown anymore and they are good students. They teach & tell the kids, spelling isn't important??? What? Because computers have spell check? So wrong!

My Step-Daughter loves this school. She has been comfortable going here since 1st grade. They are expanding and having this school accomodate a 6th grade in the 2005-2006 semesters. She was thrilled! They have a program for gifted children, and many extra-curricular activities for the children, including an after school art program.
