Noticed that most of the reviews are sort of out of date. The Plantation has been restored very nicely with newly decorated rooms and a lot of new landscaping. There is a new restaurant there called Varnedoe's and the chefs are multiple award winners (ask to see the medals!) who blew in with the hurricane from New Orleans. There are dozens of other attractions in the area. Some of them are historic. Others are great clubs with live music. It takes about a half of an hour to get there from Baton Rouge or about an hour and a half from New Orleans. There are gorgeous nature trails and parks along the Tunica Trace with waterfalls and great hiking. The area is a cyclist's paradise. There is horseback riding and a great golf course at The Bluffs. The staff and management are very courteous and the breakfast served is wonderful with loads of choices, like cheese grits and hash brown casseroles or bagels or croissants or cereal. The day we were there, they served a really good fresh apple and raisin trifle with sour cream sauce or pudding. They are very busy on the weekends, but we went on Tuesday through Thursday nights and had a great time, got some amazing photographs and met some very interesting people. The tours are informative and well-presented. Whatever problems that may have existed in the past are history now.

Pros: Unique and meaningful experience.

Cons: Not enough time in three days to do everything.

The Myrtles Plantation has extremely nice people and the house is in excellent condition. The plantation is out in the middle of nowhere, though. Took us 45 minutes from Baton Rouge.
The day we went the historical tour was being conducted in German for a tour group, so we did not learn the history of the house, but we wandered out back towards a swan pond and the closer I got to it, I started to become very strongly dizzy and nauseated, so we left. Later I learned that area was historically significant (deaths, ect..) My husband thought that was cool at the time-but he wasn't willing to slend the night there! LOL

My wife and I stay in Bed and Breakfasts across the nation. We stayed in the Myrtles this past June. I've never, ever paid so much for so little! The room and furnishings were hideous. And after paying nearly $200 for a nights stay, we had to pay for a tour of the place (really!) and was treated to a continental breakfast. The only thing scary about this place was how many strange people (like us) were being ripped off to stay there!

my wife & i spent an evening, actually it was the night that i asked michele to marry me. the place is really nothing fancy, but we were looking for ghosts not fanciness. we had dinner right there. they have a very nice restaurant at the plantation. food and service are excellent. if you are staying it is a typical b&b, nobody around at night. there are four rooms in the house, 2 have baths in the room. the other two have their baths down the hall. got pics of orbs and other unexplainables. great place to stay. a little pricey to stay in the house, but worth it. not much else to do in the area. happy haunting, i'm sorry i mean hunting.
