As do most dog owners, I want the best for my dog. I've been to the fanciest dog groomers in town (you know the ones that look like a day spa,) but they were unpredictable and costly!!! The last time I brought my goldendoodle into one of those other salons, she had some mats starting to form, so I wanted to get those taken care of right away, before they got out of hand. When I brought her in, they gave her a bath first, said they couldn't get the knots out (because the bath I didn't ask for locked them in) and recommended I shave her down. They didn't do what I asked, made the situation worse and charged me $55 for me to be left in a worse situation than when I started. Then I found Henry at Kennel Club, who WAS able to get the mats out with a little time and effort. He also gave me some grooming tips and showed me how to use the tools, and thinned her coat out a bit to prevent future mats - all for less about the same as what that other groomer charged me the week before. And, the extra bonus of free nail trims (or trims around the eyes) in between groomings is just wonderful. Kennel Club Grooming may not look like a day spa for dogs, but they sure do get pampered there.
Pros: gentle and friendly with pets, reasonable costs, quick appt
Cons: hot and dark
10/9/2008 It's been about 2 years now since we 1st took our pom-mix to Henry. (We are the ones who wrote the last review!) He has since moved to Chandler Ave & is no longer just a block away, but it is SO worth the extra drive to go see him!!! He, Anna, Lisa & the rest of his staff have continued to give us GREAT service & MUCH kindness each time we come. Our dog LOVES to come see Henry & she is SO good for him! He is a "dog whisperer" & the dogs know it!!! Today he looked at a little bump she's had on her rump for a while & said it was just a sebaceous cyst, like a pimple, so he took care of it for her & put some betadine on it. How nice of him!!! We were worried that it was something more serious!!! Henry is ALWAYS going above & beyond for his animals. He ALWAYS makes time for you & your dog. He is kind, gentle, respectful & loving towards the animals & his owners. It is a wonderful place to take your dog & we feel it is the BEST!!! Our neighbor, 2 doors down, has been taking her dog to Henry for many, many years!!! I recommend him to everyone I can!!! Today, our little pom got a cute little scarf to wear for halloween as a gift from Henry! What a nice thoughtful gift! Plus, I read an article today hung up in the waiting area that Henry also volunteers his time & services to the SPCA! Now that is truly special & generous!!! There should be more Henry's in this world & if there were, it would DEFINITELY be a much better place!!! So take your pet to The Kennel Club where you are ALWAYS treated like family!!! :)))
Pros: EVERYTHING!!!
Cons: NOTHING!!!
9/14/2006 We have a 5-yr-old pomerian-mix. She is VERY fussy when we clip her nails & the experience is extremely traumatic for her & us. We tried everything, but even with the 2 of us, it was almost impossible! She suffers from minor seizures & the anxiety she gets from our clipping attempts brings on the attacks. We had our vet try to do her nails, but she gets very nervous when we go there & it is expensive. It is a long drive & she gets very nervous in the car. So, I did a search online. The Kennel Club is just around the corner from me! I called & talked to a VERY nice lady named Lisa. I asked how much it would cost to trim my dog's nails. She said NOTHING! I thought I heard her wrong, but she said there was no charge for a nail trim! I was pretty surprised! Then I asked her if they clean teeth, cause her breath had been a little stinky the past couple of weeks. She said that Henry, the owner, would take a look & I didn't need an appointment, just stop right in during business hrs. It was raining today, so I drove the short distance to the shop. I was hoping my dog wouldn't have an attack. I was greeted by another very nice lady who took her in right away. Then Henry said hello to her with a little kiss on her forehead & a gentle pet. The lady clipped her nails in less than 5 minutes!!! I was shocked! She was so good for her! Then Henry took a look at a bump on her right foot that she'd been licking & said to keep an eye on it that it doesn't get bigger. He said he would take another look next time she came in for a trim. He also looked at her teeth & said they looked good. He suggested Elmwood Pets Supply for some teeth cleaning treats for the bad breath. I asked the lady again if I could pay them for trimming her nails & she refused again! They did such a GREAT job & We are sooooo happy to have found them. They truly care for their pets & LOVE their jobs!!! We will repay them with many, many, referrals to come!!!
Pros: EVERYTHING!
Cons: NONE!
My standard poodle, Rusty, was diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma in Nov. of 2005. Because of his weekly chemo treatments, his immune system is down. We asked several groomers if they would be willing to bathe and trim Rusty's nails & hair after hours as he can't be exposed to kennel cough or other contagious diseases. No one would help us with this. We finally found Henry at the Kennel Club who not only washed Rusty up after hours, he carried him from our car to his shop, and took such great care to make him comfortable. He volunteered his time and did not charge us for this service. Henry brought tears to our eyes with his compassion. Rusty is now in remission and we have found a new friend, and groomer, at Henry's.
Pros: Everything!
Cons: None
Henry at the Kennel Club clearly loves what he does. He has such a great way with all the dogs. He really gets to know all his regulars - and they him...Our dogs get excited and run to the door when we say "Time to go see Henry". Not only is he good at what he does, but he has a real commitment to the well being of all dogs (and other animals in need, as well). He has rescued and adopted more creatures than I care to count! Many of them would have been almost impossible to place for adoption due to personality and socialization issues, but Henry worked with them and turned them into loving pets. WE LOVE HENRY!!!!
Pros: too many to mention
Cons: none
