We took our 8 week old puppy to Vet Specialty Hospital where we was diagnosed with Parvo. Vet Specialty Hospital staff were very hopefully they would do their very best to save our little guy. We were provided hourly updates, and even allowed to visit him in the isolation ward. Vet Specialty Hospital provided many options, including financing..which was a lifesaver. We had just adopted him from a local animal shelter, and he deserved to have the very best start on life. I have constantly referred animal lovers to Vet Specialty Hospital, especially knowing the staff are affiliated with UC Davis, which is a nationally ranked Vet school. Today, our sweet boy is now two, full of life, and our love. Thank you Vet Specialty Hospital....PS-The Hospital also does consults for Allergies, Dermatology, etc..They are not just for emergencies.

When our pomeranian puppy got into the flowerbed and ate something that made her loopy, I was in a panic. I didn't know what she had eaten or what was causing her odd behavior, so we rushed her to the Veterinary Specialty Hospital. I didn't know what to expect, but we were taken immediately in to see the vet who was calm, reassuring and got to work. It didn't take long for them to diagnose what had happened and to correct the matter. I was a wreck, but they were so good at going over everything they were doing and the course of treatment. I felt reassured every step of the way and was incredibly impressed by their professionalism.

I would NOT recommend this facility. Many of the veterinarians have only a few years experience at best. I believe that if the doctors had more experience, my pet would have had a humane death rather than the violent death he incurred. An ultrasound revealed a large mass near the abdomen, and when a needle aspiration revealed only white blood cells, the doctor recommended exploratory surgery as soon as possible as opposed to a biopsy. The doctor claimed that a biopsy would only spread the disease; however, at this point, the doctor did not know what was wrong with my pet; only that he had a large mass near his stomach. Based upon the perceived urgency, I opted for the surgery, which ended up being far more complex than expected. My pet went through 3 agonizing days of aftercare only to die a violent death 2 days later at my home.
A more experienced veterinarian would have recommended a biopsy be done first in order to determine the best treatment plan. (Would an MD recommend to a human to forego a biopsy?) Instead what I received was negligent care. I honestly feel that the doctor exploited my emotional state since I based my decision solely on her recommendation to take the extreme and expensive route (original estimate of $3200 ended up $8500). Following my pets death, the surgeon called me to advise me that my pet died of a very rare and 95% fatal disease, which meant that surgery of any kind would not have saved my pet. So instead of opting to euthanize my pet in a humane way, my pet suffered a violent death because I took the advice of an inexperienced (and bottom-line focused) veterinarian.
