I LOVE the Hermitage Cat Shelter! They gave me Hermie, a kitten I adopted some 14 years ago. He finally left me a couple of months ago, and I will be going to see them again. Their philosophy was so different than the Humane Society. Hermie had the run of the house when he was there, and when he came out from a hiding place where he was napping, he came right up to me and climbed on my shoulder. The Hermitage made sure I was a good candidate too, and even came to my house to make sure I wasn't a laboratory or something. When I had called Humane Society earlier, they were impatient with me for even asking for a kitten, it wasn't the season for kittens, they said! When I tried to ask further questions, like when it would be, they cut me off and hung up. When I called Hermitage, they said they had one special little guy, and I could come visit if I liked. They also mentioned when more kittens would be coming into season. Their little guy turned out to be the kitty love of my life, and I will miss him always! Nevertheless, I will still visit the Hermitage again, to see if there is another special little being that wants to be a part of my life.

This place is not what many people have made it out to be. The shelter is clean and people care for the animals as they would treat their children. They know all the personality of every cat there is. They are still no kill and keep permanent residents who are not able to be adopted. They are always welcoming adopters and volunteers. Please do not refer to prior reviews as this cat shelter is not what people have said it to be.

I feel bad for the cats at the Hermitage, I had heard good things about the place a while back. But I guess the aren't in it for the cats anymore.

Pros: Save a needy kitty

Cons: Any money going there is probably going to put down cats or to the managment pockets
