DO NOT GO THERE..For the second time in 2 years, they have given us back a maltese that was not ours. They hardly offered an apology, saying how they had 2 maltese to groom the same morning and how confusing it was...\r

SCILLAG IS DEAD !
Scillag was our jet black toy poodle,he was only 4 years and four
month old when I took him on Saturday 01 May 2010 to Canine
Styles on Lexington Ave & 81st str for his monthly grooming. It was
10 o'clock in the morning,a clear and sunny day.I told Scillag to be
good,as usual I would pick him up at 3 pm.When I returned with my
wife at 3 pm Scillag was dead.Canine Style staff let him escape from the grooming area into the retail shop, from there onto Lexington Ave,Scillag was hit by a car on 82nd street and killed.
We contacted Canine Style to compensate us for the loss, our intentions are to contribute the compensation total to the Elmsford
Animal Shelter in memory of Scillag. After many month of no response we received an offer of $1500.00 with the insurance agents comments that this was 'more than the dog was worth'.
Since the insurance agent speaks for Canine Styles let it be know
to both of them that they causewd immesurable grief by their staffs
negligence. The agents comments with the offer 'that the dog was not worth 1500 dollars'is heartless, cruel and uncivilized.

I was shocked to see the woman at the West Side location get down on the floor and remove some twig from my dogs paw while she was playing with my beagle and then then tell me my dogs nails werent ready for a nail trim, which I would

I have been coming with my dogs to Canine Styles for almost 20 years and there is simply no other place I would bring them. Everyone brings their dogs to Canine Styles. Are they perfect? No. Are they as close to perfect as you are going to get dealing with live animals and their difficult & demanding owners: yes. And the merchandise selection can not be beat. They are a New York institution.

I was doubtful after Karen left but they have taken that place to a new level and the groomers are the same. And try to find those cashmere sweaters and carriers anywhere else.

My Cocker Spaniel Mugo practically drgas me to the door and I don??t think it is just the treats. They really care and have the best grooming in the city, without question. Just go to any nice dog run and look around: all the best dogs are wearing Canine Styles product. They make it themselves and you can??t get it anywhere else.

You know my pet parent travels and always makes an effort to find the local dog boutique. She is always looking for that extra special dog treat, toy or dress. Canine Styles is a charming store with lots of things to check out. Paws up Trixie!

Small and cute. The things they carry are expensive (like all dog boutiques) but I love their Aspen Parkas and the "I Love NY" sweatshirts they carry. They are perfect for the cold weather. They also have a friendly cat that walks around the store.

After all the bad stuff I have bought for my three dogs this was a relief. It fits and it wears well and the one time I have a plastic buckle snap the owner just handed me a new one- no receipt, nothing. He said it was his brand and whenever I got it or whenever he was happy to replace it. That impressed me and I'm loyal.

I've never bought anything here (I don't own a dog in the city) but I stopped in during a street fair. The lady who works there is super friendly and helpful, and she is (usually) accompanied by two little angels: a cute kitty that sits in the doorway and a TINY WEINER DOG. The lady didn't even care that I sat on the floor for twenty minutes and played with the dog.

I was very surprised to see the negative reviews on this site. I've been going to both locations of Canine Styles for years, and nothing like the things described have ever happened. They are like family.

The people in the front seem to know all of the dogs' names and are always eager to help us find what we need with very personalized service. My two dogs get groomed there all the time -- a miniature poodle and a havanese -- and they never look more beautiful than when they leave Canine Styles.

One great thing about this place as a grooming salon is they have a window to watch the goings-on in the back.

I will continue to go there and I hope others do too!!

Pros: Excellent Grooming, Excellent Service

Cons: Wish it was closer to home

Ever since Karen sold the business to a new owner, the customer service has declines drastically. The new owner cares more about quantity then quality. The groomers can only do so much to keep the quality up when they are faced with more appointments then they can handle. The store is stuffed with ??designer? clothing made in china - cheap imitation of many upscale brands. And the prices are not justified for the level of service received. Many grooming places on Upper East Side offer same quality service and courteous customer service for much less. Avoid this place at all cost!

Pros: Best Groomers

Cons: Worst owner

If you want your pet to be taken care of with tender, loving care this is not the place. I brought my puppy here for a grooming and the groomer "accidentally" hurt her. They tried to blame it on a circumstance that they said already existed (which it did not). I brought her to the vet and she said there was no way that this could have been an accident.

THEY GAVE US THE WRONG DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BE VERY CAREFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After our male dog was groomed at Canine Style's Uptown (nee Karen's for Pets and People) we went to pick him up. Much to our surprise they returned a female dog of the same breed. We alerted them to the mistake and they very very rudely insisted that this was our dog. Luckily, our dog was still there and not released to a stranger. The mistake was rectified with no harm done. But stil......

Back when Canine Styles was Karen's this never would have happened. This used to be a very well managed and safe place. We were so sad that Canine Styles took the place over as our dog got very sick after visiting their midtown location.

Cons: Groomer changed hands, now poorly managed, rude and unsafe

Don't take your dog here! I had taken my dog in to the 81st and Lexington store a few days prior to her appointment to speak with the groomer to make sure she would be groomed and brushed out the way that I like. Then I made the earliest appointment to prevent her from spending the whole day at the groomers. I dropped her off before 9am, the owner very rudely told me that the brush out would be extra money (which I was not told during her consultation) AND that she would have to stay until 4pm because other dogs would be groomed before her! I explained that I made the first appointment so she would not have to stay all day and he rudely said that the other dogs (who were not even there yet) needed to go first and that there was only one groomer and that I could schedule ANOTHER appointment to bring her back!!
I should have been told beforehand about the increase in price AND they should have at least called to change the appointment time if they knew they would not be able to keep the time scheduled. After all, I had made sure to schedule my dog for the very first appt. of the day, not to have her spend 7 hours in a cage. Do not send your dog there for grooming - there are many other reputable, less expensive, and friendlier salons on the Upper East Side.
