Camp Richardson offers many activities right on the shore. It has been there for many years and it shows. Go here only if you like a rustic feel of the cabins.

This resort is really CAMPING in the DIRT. Lots of fun stuff to do, biking, hiking, boating, sailing, swimming, etc.. But the campsites are really dusty and not many with rv hookups. Great spot for kids.

We stayed here last year in the hotel that is part of this resort. It was supposed to be a room for four, but was extremely cramped and a bit loud. The resort also has many small cabins that you can rent. I believe these have kitchens and 2-3 bedrooms. These would most likely be a better option when staying at this resort. That said, the kids had fun here mainly at the beach that is a part of the property. There is also park land adjacent to the resort and easy walking trails where you can explore the history of the area and take in Lake Tahoe views. At night, there is entertainment both at the restaurant on the premises and at another barn that is next to the property. This resort is quite developed, a bit too much for my taste but there is a lot to do down at the beach (paddle boating, water skiing, parasailing, etc).

Pros: kids enjoyed this place, proximity to historic trails to learn about early Lake Tahoe

Cons: Cramped hotel room, a bit overdeveloped

There are lots of bike rentals in town, but Camp Richardson is right on the bike trail. Why rent in town, and drive to the trail. The staff was really friendly and the bikes were brand new. The staff said they replace them every year or two so they're always running well. I'd highly recommend it. The price is right too, compared to many of the other activities on the south shore.
