We started taking our Jack Russell terrier to Claws and Paws after a bad experience with another veterinary office in Pearland. Dr. Wickel and the rest of the staff treat our dog (who is like our child) as if he is one of their own. We never have to worry how we or our dog will be treated. Our dog is now almost 17 years old and Dr. Wickel continues to offer options, such as acupuncture, to help him feel spry and as young as a 17 year old can. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone who loves their pet(s) because the staff at Claws and Paws truly care about your pets needs.

We have been using Claws & Paws since we moved to Pearland over 9 years ago. They are very caring and friendly. I really appreciate that they take a holistic approach to treatment. I have a 17 year old dog that was diagnosed with a melanoma 14 months ago. In addition to the necessary medical treatment, Dr. Wickel recommended several supplements and vitamins to help him fight off the cancer. I truly believe these have helped to extend his life and maintain his quality of life. I would not take my babies anywhere else!

My wife and I have Labradors. Anyone who has labs knows they like to dig and chew and explore with their mouths. We have been with Claws & Paws since 2002 and have always received top quality care and treatment for our "babies" whether we had an appointment, had to be worked in to a busy schedule or had an emergency where the owner herself dropped everything and rearranged an entire days schedule just to provide treatment, attention and care to one of our lab pups (i.e. "The Jingle Bell" dog). We would not hesitate to recommend Claws & Paws and their staff of professionals to anyone who wants the best veterinary care possible for their dogs, cats or what have you. Five stars is not nearly a high enough rating.

I wanted to write a quick note to thank all the doctors and staff at Claws & Paws. They are always so very friendly and accommodating when I bring in my dogs. I have felt that my dogs are loved and in the best possible care. Claws and Paws have seen me through the ups and downs of loving and caring for my older doggies. They have comforted me through the loss of 3 of my dear, faithful friends and now I have 2 younger babies that they are doting on! I wouldn't consider going ANY place else to have my babies taken care of.

Claws & Paws has been taking care of our dogs since we moved to Pearland twelve years ago. Dr. Terrell did a fantastic job with Pepper, our Dalmatian, when we almost lost her to kidney failure. We had a another year with her before we had to put her down. Now we have two Siberian huskies. We almost lost our Yvette several years ago to pancreatitis and this wonderful, caring staff was here yet again to nurse our baby back to health. She is healthy and doing fantastic thanks to a special diet. I could not imagine taking my babies anywhere else!

The entire staff are exceptional, they are very good with our pets, have their overall health and well being in mind. I have confidence their decisions on treatment are based on best knowledge available. We found Claws and Paws from the Internet, it was part of our decision on where it relocate in the Houston area. Thank you for being there for us. Karen

I've taken all my "sweet'ems to be cared for by Dr Terrel. He is so gentle to them all. He recommends what is needed for them to be in good health and follows up accordingly. He is super. Not only does Dr Terrel take care of us, but the entire staff does so as well.I am always greeted by name as well as the "sweet'em" when we arrive for an appointment. Most of the time the Tech and Dr. Terrel are right on time which is nice. If I have to wait a bit, the receptionists are always fun to talk with as well as the various clients that come for their appointments. The personnel at Claws and Paws treat all of us as "Best In Show". Thanks to all of you.

My family has spent a great bit of time at Claws & Paws. We had a geriatric dog with many health problems. She was our first dog and we had her for 14 years. We also had one of her sons and my sister and brother-in-law had another one of her puppies. My brother-in-law happens to to be a Veterinarian and works for the USDA. With any new problem we had with our dogs or cat, I would call my brother-in-law and discuss their symptoms. He would suggest some questions to ask and also mention what he would probably do under the circumstances.I can tell you that the majority of the time they were in complete agreement. Dr. Wickel would also send home a copy of any tests taken and these were discussed with the same results.

My only suggestion would be for Claws and Paws to realize that many people have financial difficulties and some people can only afford minimally required services. Claws and Paws should also strive to keep their prices as low as possible.

My Hattie girl has been seeing Dr. Wickle for years for her athletic aches and pains. Hattie is a GSP with a high drive for fun. She is titled out in many of her sports. Hattie has suffered from arthritis in her hips for the last 2 year and an acl repair. She is almost 11 and still very active. Dr. Wickle keeps her in active condition with acupuncture and herbs. Without them Hattie would not be able to get up and chase all the squirrel and birds out of my 2 acre yard. Keeping my yard clear of birds and squirrel is Hatties happy place. I think it is great that my girl is kept healthy and happy. I appreciate all that is done for her at Claws and Paws as she is greated by friendly staff that know her name the moment she walks in the door. Hattie and I both receive personal attention by staff who seem happy we have come in to see them even when we are just picking up meds or collars. Without the treatment she receives at Claws and Paws my Hattie Girl might not be with me today.

My dog had surgery on both ACL's last summer. And because I live on the second floor of my apartment building, I had to let him convalesce at Claws & Paws for about 8 weeks total, since the surgery was done in two parts. They took such WONDERFUL care of him- I never worried about him at all. They even call periodically just to see how he's doing! (he's fully recovered, by the way...)They go out of their way to accommodate my boarding needs any time I'm out of town. They even sent me a Christmas card with a gift certificate...never had that happen before!I recommend them wholeheartedly...they truly care about the animals they serve.

I have been taking all 6 of my animals to Claws and Paws practically since they opened. I have been so impressed and thankful for the care and concern they give my babies. I left briefly as I moved out of the area. I now am back at Claws and Paws because the experience at the new vet was not Top Notch! I knew I had to return back to where me and my animals felt safe and cared for. The 40 minute drive is worth it! Thank you Claws and Paws Staff for making me and my family a priority every time we have visited. Keep up the great work!

We have a Maltese with Addison's disease. The doctors and staff at Claws and Paws have provided excellent care for both of our dogs. Without them, we would have lost our little guy.

My name is Rhea and I have been seeing the Veterinarians at Claws and Paws for about 2 years. I have always received excellent care. The staff knows my name and my pets. I drive about 30 miles out of my way in order to have the Vets there treat my animals. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats that have received follow up calls and reminders for medication. I have recommended Claws and Paws to numerous colleagues and people I randomly meet. The office is clean neat and I really can not say enough good about them. The staff actually send out birthday cards to me for my animals. The only other place I have received such excellent care was at a previous Vet who recommended Claws and Paws to me. I would recommend them to anyone and I appreciate all the effort they put into making me and my animals feel special

Dr. Wickle and her staff have been caring for my three dogs for almost three years. Every member of that office has always been friendly and professional and every service performed has been done cheerfully and in the best interest of the patient. When I enter the office I (and my dogs) are greeted by name even when we stop by unexpectedly. I recently dropped by to pick up some meds and Dr. Wickle saw us in the waiting area and stopped to inquire after my oldest dog. She didn't know I was coming and had not reviewed Lacey's chart, but asked about her by name and remembered her condition perfectly - even though Lacey has not had a checkup in months. And when my maltese got her jaw stuck in her kennel door just before the office closed, I called ahead, was seen immediately, and there was NO charge - extra or otherwise- for cutting her loose. Even though staff members had to stay past closing time. Dr. Wickle and her staff are also up-to-date on the latest treatment options and are willing to explain all options until I understand them. It was clear to me from the first appointment that every member of the Claws and Paws practice loves animals and will do whatever it takes to protect the health of their patients. I would recommend this veterinary clinic without reservation to anyone who loves their pet as a member of the family.

Rarely will you find a group of people so dedicated to the care of your animal family. The veterinarians and staff are compassionate caregivers with reasonable rates. All the veterinarians have continuing education to better diagnose your animal's ailment. I've never visited with a seriously ill animal without getting a follow up call-sometimes that evening-or being handed a cell phone number and a "Call me if she gets worse.". They are always willing to work you in as well (and I've never been charged an extra fee for this.). Once I was there and an elderly man was leaving with his little dog-a simple diagnosis of allergies that could be cleared up with over the counter Benedryl. He pulled out an old wallet and the vet said quietly, "No charge today. It's just Benedryl she needs."(mind you the dog had had a full appointment). Caring, compassionate. As with many of their clients, I feel like they are family; having been through illnesses with us and of course, loss.

Having taken my dog to Claws & Paws for over 10 years, I would highly recommend the facility for the health care of your pets. All the staff is exceptional, Dr. Terrell and the other doctors and technicians are knowledgeable and caring, the hospital is clean, and my Old English Sheepdog always enjoyed going to see her friends or to be boarded at Claws & Paws. The staff was always accommodating to my needs and schedule even when I moved to the Cypress area several years ago. When my Abby recently passed away from old age, Dr. Terrell and everyone at Claws & Paws were very compassionate, respectful and understanding of my feelings at that very difficult time. They are the BEST! Joyce I, Cypress TX

I am a Yorkie breeder, and I demand the best care for my babies. This hospital is an excellent facility! The staff is considerate, friendly, compassionate and very knowledgeable in all aspects of vet medicine. As a breeder, I have presented them with several medical challenges, which, because of their extensive, up to date medical knowledge as well as the aggressive, prompt medical care my babies received, lives were saved. I HIGHLY recommend this hospital. I have found the prices in line with ANY speciality vet hospital with the on site amenities available at this facility.

I had my lab treated and they were great when I paid $1300.00, but only 6 months later when my cat was very sick I had no appt and took him to the clinic and was told they could see him but I would be a work in and it was an additional $17.00 for working him in. How many times have you had to pay additional money to your doctor because you were sick and had to be worked in. I have never heard such a thing, I thought that is what doctors and vet clinics are for.

Claws and Paws is convenient to "old" Pearland and has nice, cozy facilities. The vets are caring and helpful, giving a lot of personalized service; but you definitely pay for it in terms of the fees. I couldn't believe how much it was just to get an basic appointment! Many of the tests in particular are very expensive; make sure to shop around first for services.

PROS: Caring vets and cozy facilities
CONS: High cost

This veterinary hosptial is wonderful. The staff is friendly and caring. They will take the time to explain all charges and procedures if you have questions when you call. The doctors are caring and take time with you and your babies. They will explain everything to you while letting you know what options are available. Appointments are pretty easy to get, and they offer drop-off service if you do not have a day off to schedule one. Highly recommend. They are awesome!

PROS: All around great
CONS: adds up, nothing out of the ordinary

The vets and techs here are all very caring and kind. I've never had to wait too long and the office is kept clean. They call all pets your "babies" - I assume to make you feel like it's ok to spend more money on them.

Of course the down side to most vets is the cost. Sometimes you feel as if they're recommending unnecessary tests just to pad the bill. The prices of their foods and pet products are considerably higher than you'll find even in PetSmart, so don't buy them here if you have a choice. It's ok to comparison shop first.

I do not understand the negative experiences.
1) These vets care about your pets. The are great about follow-up phone calls to check on them. The research and call specialists if needed to find proper treatment.
2) They will give you estimates for any procedure that will be expensive. They also discuss variety of treatment options and together the best decision is made.
3) Dr Terrel and Dr Wickel were the only ones that found the correct diagnosis on my pets. The vets in Houston could never find one. Plus, expensive are the vets in Houston!!!!
4) If you lose a pet, they continue to ask you how you are doing. It is never forgotten about.
5) Your questions and concerns are always addressed.
Bottom line, they care for your babies and they care about their clients very much and work hard to show it. Dr Ramsey, Dr Wickel and Dr Terrel are the best.
I will not changed vets, even though I now have to make the drive to them. It is well worth the cost.

Best vet ever! I have gone to Claws & Paws for over 11 years. I can not say enough good things about Claws & Paws. They have excellent staff from the office staff, vet assistants, all the way to each of the veterinarians. The doctors are experienced, and take extra special care of each of my cats. Every time I bring my cats there, everyone on the staff treats them like one of their own pets/kids. I have had to bring my cats in for both routine checkups, and emergency visits that required surgery. I have gotten numerous phone calls from Dr. Terrel personally, to make sure my cats are ok after surgery. Dr. Terrel has also called me numerous times (even late in the evening!) to check on my eldest cat, to make sure his medication is helping him. That alone gives me great piece of mind. The office staff is amazing and friendly. Claws & Paws has always worked with me on payments, and is always flexible in giving me a flexible payment plan when it is needed. I can always count on Claws & Paws taking the best possible care of all of my cats, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

We are sorry you feel that way MC, but let me set the record straight.

First off, you say you were happy with us for 5 years...we must have been doing something right. Our prices, just like everyone elses, rise with inflation so that we can stay open to serve you. Given the tough economy, we have not raised our prices in over a year because we realize how difficult it has been on everyone.

We LOVE questions from our clients. How else can you make an informed decision on treatment options unless we answer every one of your questions. If we tell you something is necessary, it IS NECESSARY for the best health of your pet. You can always seek a 2nd opinion if you disagree.

We will write a prescription for any drug your pet needs as long as we have performed an examination on your pet in the past 12 months. We do not charge a fee to write a prescription.

We require payment in full at the time services are rendered, but we will help provide whatever info you need to file insurance with your carrier. Also, if you are unable to pay in full, we do offer Care Credit as a payment (financing) alternative.

Totally agree, the vets there are ridiculous.
For the first 5 years it was okay, my parents took my dog there since he was a puppy, when we noticed after each visit the prices were getting higher and higher, we began to question. THEY DID NOT LIKE TO BE QUESTIONED. It is in every customers/patients right to ask what they are being charged for and whether or not something is necessary. They also were hesitant to give us prescriptions for outside pharmacies because they know they are cheaper outside of the clinic, these people charge ridiculous amount of money and do not price match their products. They love to suck the money out of people, thankfully I found a better vet anyways with insurance and better payment options. Claws and Paws may seem like they care for the animals but what they are mostly after is your wallet!!

I have been using Claws and Paws as my veterinary practice for over 12 years. They have taken wonderful care of my pets, and seen me through some very serious medical issues with my little friends. The technology is state of the art, and they also recommend some more homeopathic approaches as well as acupuncture. It's amazing what modern veterinary medicine can do nowadays, and it's very true that you get what you pay for. I have never felt Claws and Paws to overcharge me for anything. And the staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place.

Our dogs have been going to Claws and Paws since we moved here 14 years ago. They are wonderful with my "babies". I never feel cheated or taken advantage of. The staff are very friendly and all the vets have given my pets excellent care. I highly recommend this place.

December 25, 2010

I have been using the vet off and on for over 5 years. The only reason I do is convenience, available appointments and lack of frequent care of my pets. Anyways, we have left them permanently now as we FINALLY got sick and tired of padded bills, unnecessary tests, poorly recommended/unnecessary procedures, HUGE BILLS AND OVER CHARGES. I feel like they have their hands in my wallet the moment I walk into that place. I got a 'Recommended Procedure/Service' list for one of my dogs. There were 20 things on it such as 'Flouride Care' and 'Nail Cutting'. It totalled over $1000. NONE OF IT WAS NECESSARY! This vet will not write you prescriptions for filling outside of their office. And, if they tell you they will, ITS A LIE!!! I missed my 3 pets monthly heartworm meds schedule because this vet jacked me around and created such a hassle for 1800PETMEDS that we ended up having to go to a different vet. They will not price match prescriptions, either. Their prices are outrageous. The vets will not tell you which procedures/services are optional or unnecessary unless you ask or know for yourself. Veterenarians rank right up there with defense attorneys and used care salesmen. CALL AROUND AND FIND ANOTHER VET. SKIP THIS ONE, YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT WILL BE THERE IF YOU DO!

We have been taking our cat to Claws and Paws for 4+ years and they have been great. They have been seeing our dog for nearly a year and have been a huge help! When she got sick while being boarded (at another facility), they saw her 5 days in a row and helped her get better. We recommend them to all our Pearland neighbors and to all of you!!
