Finally a cool place to get Nice interesting Wedding Rings!!

When I decided to ask the love of my life, Melisa to marry me, I started by asking around at work for where to get a cool, Unique ring. No cookie cutter stuff... Green Lake must have been mentioned by 10 different people.

So after lookiing on the Eastside first ( I live there now) and finding some nice rings, (EE Robbins and Several of the downtown Belevue shops) , I decided I better at least take a look at Green Lake since so many had told me too... Man am I happy I did. This place is really like no other busines I have seen. The shop is Huge, with Jewelers all over the place ( they told me they have like 40 people or so) , yet no one is wearing a suit or tie, and they are super casual and make it a very easy experience.

They have lots of items on hand so I could see they did nice quality work, and the website has thousands of pictures to help figure out what to get. Matter of fact, after working with Melissa (the designer at Green Lake) to figure out generally what I wanted, I did most of the designing and approval of ideas and so on right on their website .

(They use a private Design page for each client, so it was really easy)

End result: a Unique Ring worthy of my Future Wife that she absolutly loves,
In the end it was LESS expensive than the mass produced (but nice) rings at the big Engagement ring specialist I looked at.

Melissa tells all her friends where we got it made, and we will definatley get our wedding bands there next year. (They have tons of ideas for my band.)

Matter of fact, I had planned to just get a plain band, but my soon to be wife would not hear of it, and after a bit of looking through Green Lake's online picture gallery I found several ideas I want to mix and match to use in my special ring !! Lucky me lucky us!!

I stopped into GLJW to have a consultation about my ring. It is an antique platinum setting and my center stone was loose. My first hope was to determine it the diamond needed to be reset and also to get some help considering a new setting.

It was around six pm and there was only one other couple in the show room. It looked like about 5 staff were working in the back . . . I stood around for easily 5 minutes. Long enough for the husband in the couple to mention " I guess they don't want your business". Once a young woman came over, I asked if they were getting ready to close - thinking my timing was off. She bruskly shared - "we are open until 8".

I told her my situation and concerns about my diamond. She took my ring, spun on her heels and consulted with one of the jewelers. When she returned she merely stated that they could tighten it if I wanted, but they didn't think there was risk of losing my stone. Ok - how much? I asked.

$50.

Really? OK

I decided that they didn't want the work or to provide any customer service beyond this - so I left. No consultation, no information about how to arrange this if it was not feasible at that time. Nothing.

I eventually took my ring up to GB Heron in Bellingham where they cleaned, tightened and gave advice about my prongs - for the tune of 15 bucks. Unbelievable.

The service and attitude of the young woman at GLJW was terrible. Really too bad for such a nice shop - she should not be at the front of the house.

We Loved Emily and we LOVE our rings. My fiance proposed with his grandmother's wedding ring and I also had my grandmother's wedding ring. So, we wanted to design a new engagement ring using the stones from the other two. Emily was fantastic. We brainstormed together and eventually came up with the PERFECT ring. We used all the stones from the first two and GLJW even cut the setting out of my grandmother's ring and put it in the new one. I get comments on my ring constantly. Even better, it's a symbol of both of our families that also reflects my style. And, I know we couldn't have done it without Emily. We never felt pressured to make decisions or to go with an idea she had. In the end, we bought both wedding bands and the engagement ring from GLJW. Don't even think about buying a ring somewhere else before visiting GLJW.

I have had my ring over a week now, and I love it. The process was pretty smooth once I got an idea of what I wanted. I went in twice just to look, and I didn't quite connect with either of the two jewelers who helped me. They were both polite and professional, but disinterested. I can see why folks would find that off-putting, especially since this is a huge purchase for most of us.

Luckily, the third time around, I got Ellie, who seemed to care more about my ring than I did (I don't wear jewelry). She has a very keen eye, which is good, because she's the professional, and I relied on her! She quoted me many different configurations (mostly over their very convenient blog service - usually a 24 hr response), and near the end, when I threw a monkey wrench in the whole process (changed the whole design based on our receipt of a family diamond we wanted to use) she designed a new ring from scratch, based on a picture I brought in. She made the inspiration ring even better. In the end, I let her just run with the design and details, and I'm glad I did.

I'm sure I would have, in the end, been happy with any ring whatsoever. You can get cheaper rings with a bigger stone elsewhere, especially if you're fine with a plain solitaire with a prong setting. I did NOT want a prong setting, and I wanted a sapphire center stone, and that is what made it a lot more difficult. All Blue Nile settings are prong settings! Great prices, though.

Green Lake's stone prices are pretty high. If you bring in your own stone, like we did, there is a stone setting charge.

But don't let price deter you. It can be reasonable if you pick the right stones, metals, and detail work. Their website is very informative with tons of photos. If you're on a budget and and the ring-wearer is flexible, consider designing a one-of-a-kind ring with a smaller diamond or another stone. You can also design matching wedding bands!

It has taken OVER 4 months of back-and-forth with this business to get my wedding ring right, and we're still working on it.
At first, my fiance and I went in and designed a ring. I was sized for the ring, and the ring was cast and made. The young woman helping us dropped our stone on the floor twice, and dropped it onto the counter no less than 3 more times. We were worried about the stone, but assured it was fine.

After a few weeks, we finally got the finished ring, and It was beautiful.

I put it on, and it was way too big. The sales girl recommended I wear it for a week to make sure it was really too big.

After a week, I brought the ring back to be sized, along with another custom piece from another jeweler that had to be sized.

I got a call and went to pick up the rings. The ring that was not originally made here: sales girl wrote the wrong size on the work order, and the ring was sized a full size too small.

The wedding ring: This is a ring they made for us. They cut the band and completely ruined the pattern of the band. THIS IS MY WEDDING RING.

I took it back to be fixed, my fiance spoke to the owner and he assured us the ring would be repaired. We expressed our concern about the stone, as it had been dropped, and he assured us the stone would be checked before being reset.

Well, they had to re-make the ring, it had been so ruined by their attempt at sizing it. WE finally get the ring back, 2 days before our wedding, and after bringing it home notice a note on the receipt that the stone is chipped! Nobody called us, nobody told us.

We took the ring back and after several minutes of arguing with the sales person, were assured that a new stone would be ordered and set.

It has been 4 months since our original order, and we're still waiting for this issue to be resolved.

Maybe they are better with big-money customers... the way we've been treated has been shameful.

I love this place, my design made just for me (us!)

I Went to this shop a while back (old location on Green Lake) with a friend after a jog, and fell in love with the concept. They design and make the jewelry right in front of you. No big deal right? Except there is like 30 or 40 of them, so they do all kids of different styles, not just one look.

Anyway, fast forward a year and a half and I am getting serious and want to get an engagement ring to pop the question, right? So I ask around at work and 5 people say I have to go to green lake jewelry.

So I remember the place and find they have moved to a big building on Northgate way. First, the place is gorgeous! These people are obviously artists, and you can tell. The floor is painted like a big mural by the jewelers who work here. Then I look up and see lots of pictures of very nice rings they have made to get my creative juices going. (they say they make other stuff too, but it is mostly engagement rings and wedding rings)

So, after they gave me a latte from their own machine, I ended up working with Ellie, and she showed me some nice pieces they had made, then some diamonds (I ended up with a very nice 3/4 ct E VS2 round) then she sketched some ideas I had and we got started.

A couple days later she posted computer images she had made to a web page of my own on their site (works like a Blog) then we went back and forth, and refined my design. Then came a wax model, and although she posted pictures on my Design page, I went back in just for the fun of it to see the wax and the unfinished piece before they set the stones.

I ended up with a platinum set with tiny little diamonds crusted down the band and around the center diamond. (My girlfriend, now fiancee, loves it, and gets so excited to show it off to all her friends.) It is funny how many of our friends actually have come here and we just didn?t know it.

Anyway, come her and you WILL get what you want, this place is the best.

Pros: parking space blah blah blah, great service and my own design at a fair price

Cons: really hard to see any

I left this store in tears after encountering two rude customer service/sales individuals. The rude treatment of your staff toward me and the fact that because I am only interested in Men's wedding bands at this time made me feel as if they do not appreciate any business other then wedding or engagement rings.

I showed up this afternoon and was greeted by a sales person (tall about 5'8' or 5'9' with long redish curly hair) who asked me I'd been there before. I answered no, and said that I was interested in Men's wedding bands. She told me that they were on display in the cases and that I'd have to wait to talk to someone. I tried to look over the shoulders of the other couples who were getting assisted and waited to be seen. About 20 minutes later all of the other couples who had been waited were seated and assisted by your staff. I was still off to the side when another service person (short 5'5' - 5'7' with short brown hair and a blueish top) went to talk to the original one. The second one asked why I was there, and when she found it that I was only intersted in purchasing a men's wedding/engagement band she told the other women and to take me off to the side to assist me without going to the seated stations. The first girl then walked up to me and told me that they wouldn't be able to assist me and that I should come back when it's less busy during the week. When I asked if I could sit down to see the selection she just walked off and then went to assist another couple who had just walked in. I walked out in tears.

Pros: If you are going to buy a wedding ring evidently they have great service

Cons: Very rude customer service if you aren't interested in purchasing expensive jewelry, Service, Hosptiality

My husband and I collaborated with Melissa to make my wedding band and we couldn't be more pleased with the results! The experience was wonderful, she was attentive and adjusted the design as we worked through what we were looking for, and willing to pay. We really appreciated that she kept up the pricing as we made changes, so we could asses what we 'really' wanted and what could be adjusted for cost. She was thorough and followed-up with us and kept our timeline front and center throughout the process. The result is a GORGEOUS, personal and unique wedding band, that I get complimented on all the time. We HIGHLY recommend Green Lake, there's no place better!!!

I just love Greenlake Jewelry Works - their staff is knowledgeable, their work is perfect and their shop is relaxing. I drew my ring on paper and within 4 weeks had a beautiful ring that I designed - it was a dream come true! They stand behind their work which is always a plus!

the "salespeople" here are all jewelry designers and good ones. They aren't out to push their items as much as to help you find what you need. I've had two rings, a set of earrings, and a necklace done here (not all at once), and for each one, I felt like the staff took time to find out what I really wanted.

I was trying to replace my engagement ring and sat with a salesperson for an hour while he drew what I wanted. But it took a week to get a call saying they couldn't find any oval diamonds for 3 more weeks. Then, I went in to size an opal ring, telling the salesperson I wanted to wear it more often. She then told me the prongs needed replacement. Then, a week later I get a call saying that they could size the ring but that the jeweler looked at it and the stones are cracked and will probably fall out if he tried to replace the prongs. She said opals are soft gems and shouldn't be worn everyday. Good information but I could have used it during my visit there and not wasted my time. It's just too irritating to waste time with salespeople who don't know their stuff.

I was recommended to visit Green Lake Jewelry and was totally frustrated with the way they do business. All of the rings that are on display are of such small size that will fit noone. I didn't understand why it was that way until I realized that they want an extra charge of $ 85 to re-size the ring. Normally those kinds of services are offered as a courtesy at any other jeweler. It's not like their prices are low!

Greenlake Jewelry Works designed our wedding rings. Though pricey, we really are pleased with what we got. The staff was very friendly and laid back. They didn't mind that we changed our minds a couple of times - they just adjusted the design to our likes and dislikes. There was ZERO smarmy sales pressure.
