I have been to many vets in Hampton Roads, Dr Porter is hands down the best. He is considerate of feelings as well as cost. He loves his work and pets

I feel as though we were taken advantage of at this clinic. The doctors all were very nice and informative but there were several issues that left me feeing as though this office is more about money than quality pet care. First issue, ONE of the receptionist was extremely rude on several occasions, (not all of them). Two,
we were prescribed a special food which was $4.00 a can when purchased from the vet. I later found out by accident that if you ask for a written prescription for this food you can purchase it at Petsmart for $1.40 a can. Third, it was well known that the pets I was having treated were not my pets and that they were going to be placed with adoptive parents when old enough. I spent over $500. at this clinic for the care of these pets and when the adoptive parents took them back for continued care they were told that since they were not the original owners they would be charged the full new client fees. This was outragious to me! I called to complain that the new adoptive parents were only bringing them back there because the records were already established. Otherwise, the new parents would have taken them to their own vet. I called other vets in the area and they all told me they do not charge new client fees if the pet is already established at their office. Now the new parents are being taken advantage of as well.
I HIGHLY recommend Churchland Animal Clinic over this office. I compared the prices for normal tests and for flea prevention and Western Branch charges more than Churchland.

I have been taking my pup to this vet for 6 six years now and they have always been very helpful. When my min pin was just a few months old, she got very sick with a protist called Giardia. One of the vets there was concerned with her fuilds so she had to stay a few nights. In order to keep a watchful eye on my dog the vet took her home those nights and allowed me to call the home to check on her after business hours. This is only one example of the many great things these vets do on a regular basis. This office treats my baby like she were their baby and it is much appreciated.

I have to admit with 5 cats, vet checks ups get expensive! They have always treated me fairly and kindly with a great deal of soft paws when I need it. I would recommend this vet to anyone.

I have been taking my dogs to WBVH for about 6 years now. Like people, my pets all have very different personalities. They have seen every vet there and just about every vet tech. From my aggressive to my stand-offish dogs, the staff is extremely competent and caring when dealing with all of them. When I thought muzzle, the vet got right down on the floor and started playing with him to let the dog get to know him and never did I feel they were rushing to get to the next client. Each vet will give you lots of choices for treatment so that you don't put your pet through unnecessary procedures. The entire staff creates a family environment which has helped put my pets at ease through stressful situations!

I had never even been around a pregnant dog when I took our girl for her pre-natal check-up. The vet took a FULL 2 and a half hours discussing pre-natal diet and care, what to expect during the birth, possible problems, how to tell the birth was impending, examining the x-rays, post-natal care of the mom and puppies, how to build a whelping box, etc. The vet was thorough, patient, and very helpful.

When our girl started feeling bad a week after the delivery, another vet took just as much time thoroughly examining her and the puppies, running tests, and referring to her book to show me the possible problems with different treatments of our nursing mother.

Any time I've called with a question, the office staff was very friendly and informative--I just can't say enough. The best possible care for our pets is the most important thing to me, and I feel that's what we've gotten every time we've walked into the office.

clean environment. i had always loved this vet. they were great with my viscious chihuahua, and so gentle with my scared cat. the cat would have accidents everytime, and they always offered to help clean him up.

a few things i didnt like about them: the doctor always seemed frightened of our boxer. he would do the physical exams without even touching him, would just shine his little flashlight from afar. and they, like many vets, try to get you to buy stuff when you're there. they're really pushy about it.

but this past visit made me change my mind. the doctor prescribed amoxicillin for my chi's allergies (which is actually for bacterial infections). my father had taken her to the vet that day, he didn't know any different. so i called the next day to clearify that maybe my dad had misunderstood something or gave them incorrect information, and inquired why this was prescribed instead of benedryl or something made for allergies. the receptionist was EXTREMELY rude to me. she actually said to me "MAM i think the doctor knows what he is talking about. what are YOUR medical credentials?"

and i learend that the doctor breeds labs- AKA the most common breed found in shelters, and one of the most abundant breeds that are put to sleep everyday. it amazes me that someone that is supposedly so educated about animals would be so irresponsible considering the pet overpopulation problem.
