A very nice surprise after reading some reviews. Greeted warmly. Attentive service. Delicious food. Started with rice paper rolls with prawns, vermicelli, lettuce and mint. Delicious peanut sauce on the side. Also a salad with papaya, rau ram, basil and roasted peanuts. Entrees spicy beef and filet of tilapia. All delicious, fresh ingredients. Will certainly go back for the $25 per person special. This time we tried everything a la carte.

I went to Boi not really sure what to expect with the food and the fact that not many people were in there kind of scared me. (But then again it was a Sunday night and more people did come in later) Our waiter came to us quickly and was very poliet. We weren't really sure what to order and I guess the owner saw that because he came over and gave us advice on what to get and his favorite dishes. He didn't push the most expensive dishes and his recomendations were incredible. As for the portion size we had 4 people we 'family styled it' and got 1 roll and 1 salad for an appetizer, 3 main dishes and 3 desserts and were completely stuffed. The only reason we got dessert was because they looked soooo good! Our food came out right away and we even discussed the dishes with the owner. He was so nice! He explained that most of these recipes were his grandmother's and some were created by his sister (the chef) and talked to us about Vietnam. The atmosphere really was beautiful, with red flowers and bamboo along the walls. I definately recommend the green papaya salad, spicy beef entree, sea bass, and the papaya dessert. Overall it was a great expirience and I would recommend it to anyone and would definately go back again and again.

Cons: None!

Boi has a great atmosphere. It's a serene little spot with calm, soothing colors serving as a backdrop for your vietnamese food. Although food is good, I'm not sure it lives up to it's prices, especially for a cuisine wihch is infamously not extremely expensive. I like it but, I'm not sure it beats out amazing Vietnamese in a not as nice setting. One plus, cocktails here are really good.

My husband & I both love Vietnamese food, and we have tried many of the restaurants in the city. Boi is utterly charming, beautiful little details, great ambiance - reminded me of some of the restaurants we had been to in Hanoi, that have more of a french-indochinese aesthetic. food here is really really good. the dishes are some of the tastiest vietnamese food we've ever had. yes, it's not cheap, but the prices are standard compared to other restaurants that have been opening up in the city the last few years. not sure what is meant by the user comment about prices being "outrageous for this type of cuisine" - does that mean only european cuisine should be allowed to charged prices in the teens to low 20s? service was great too - the waiters were extremely attentive. overall, very highly recommended!

I have eaten here many times now, and the food is always delicious. I made a point of taking my family when they came for a visit. Excellent food and service! I'm going for lunch today!

We will never go to this restaurant again and will never recommend it to anybody. The prices at Boi are outrageous for this type of cuisine. They charge $24 for entrees and ask additional price of $3 for rice or $6 for vegetables as side dish! The portions were so small that we still wanted to eat after dinner. They didn't give us any kind of bread or tea while we were waiting for dinner (25 minutes). You would pay much less for the better food and better service. Boi is not for repeat customers.

We just wanted to take out some food, but we stayed for the atmosphere in the restaurant: Good music, a zen surrounding and just enough light to read the menu. We had several different starters (e.g. papaya salad, spring wraps) that were delicious and with 6 to 8 $ not overpriced. The waiter's recommendation for the entree (seabass in a lime and mango chutney) exceeded our expectations and we ate the chutney to the last drop. We continued to indulge in dessert such as jackfruit toffee cake or tamarind cake. So far this dinner was the most delicious and elegant one, which we had in New York in the last few months. The waiters were attentive and dedicated much attention to little details (e.g. serving Mariage Freres tea and curling the straw paper.)

Pros: comfortable , relaxing atmosphere

Cons: a little expensive

This Vietnamese newcomer, and only Vietnamese restaurant in the area, dishes out delicacies (from the entrees to Bill Yosses celebrated desserts). No wonder both the New York Times and New Yorker magazine give it top ratings. The ambience is pleasing even though it can get cramped during peak times.

I'm sorry, but the prices at Boi are outrageous for this type of cuisine. You would literally pay 1/3 of the price for the same quality (or even better) of food served in NY's notorious Chinatown. Pho will set you back $12 when indeed you can find the same bigger portion of soup for $4. The more expensive entrees were priced $19 and up. Save your money and go to C-town or Bao Noodles instead. Boi will never see a repeat customer with these prices. Also, the service was slow and erratic, perhaps b/c they just opened. However, the ambience was pleasing.

This new place has a nice decor, but it is a little cramped. The service was good as they gave me a complimentary drink, but was a little unsure of the dishes. I don't think they had anyone there who was vietnamese. The shrimp rolls for appetizer was bland. The crepes with shrimp and sausage was ok, but you had to eat it witha fork. Tapioca dessert was very bland, however the flan was good. Theoir specialty drink with some type of vietnamese fruit was good. Prices too high.
