Limited to training personally owned Service Dogs. Support Dogs does not provide pre-trained dogs. Chuck Schembri started Support Dogs since no national training business would train personal dogs, especially his chosen breed, Rottweilers. Most businesses also have a waiting list of 6 years for new customers. Chuck wanted the dogs already living with their owners to be shown ?how they could assist their charges?. Otherwise, we'd be wasting that ?special bond? these dogs have with their owners. Having SMA, Chuck grew up training his own personal dogs to assist him in his home personal life. Knowing that most dogs living with disabled people want to help but they do not know how to. After getting married, he searched to find a new dog for himself. His wife Karen?s Mastiffs were not capable of doing the work he needed. With all the dog shows he now attended with Karen, Chuck was always ?wheelin around?. He studied different breeds finally found the Breeder of Rottweilers that he liked. The bond this breed has with their people and their thought process capabilities was exactly what he was looking for. Karen finally talked Chuck into showing in AKC Obedience. Chuck and Kira earned enough points to be the #4 obedience team for Champion Rottweilers in the USA in 1984. Kira has gone Home now. On the same day and time 5 years later, Chuck joined her having outlived his prognosis lifespan over 40 years. Support Dogs is now run by Karen who is on her 2nd Service Dog Derby. Derby watches over her multiple disabilities, knowing she may be needed at any moment. Karen?s methods for training service dogs are the same ones Chuck showed her many years ago. Karen use to teach AKC obedience before marrying Chuck. Karen?s pre-taught thought process changed after watching Chuck ?read? dogs. Karen has always been Chuck?s arms & legs when teaching client dogs, Chuck always trained his personal Service Dogs by himself. Support Dogs does not offer training classes for obedience dogs.
