What an absolutely amazing evening. The food is exquisite and memorable. I had the Cara Mia salad with red pepper, shaved fennel, white beans, and shrimp. My wife had Luna Russa, a salad of beefsteak tomato, red onion, and gorgonzola. Both were delicious and only $8. For entrees we had a seafood with spinach linguine in a spicy marinara and a Strozzaprieti (pasta twists) with stewed wild boar. They were excellent and also moderately priced ($15-$20). The service was attentive, our waiter was very knowledgeable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and romantic. They even brought us each a complimentary glass of sparkling muscat to go with our dessert, strawberries in cream. We had a bottle of Chianti and an extra glass of wine as well as a bottle of water all for $122. Well worth it for a great evening out. If you didn't want to be as extravagant, you could easily have dinner for two for $80. And, as for the title, "Like Dining in Tuscany," it really was. We just spent our honeymoon in Italy and I can say flavors were authentic and delectable. We will definitely return.

We had a fantastic meal with excellent service. One draw back is that it only has a Beer and Wine license but It MORE then makes up for that in its delicious food, presentation and service. You can?t find a better restaurant in the city for this price. There were 4 of us and we all had a glass of wine, appetizer, main dish and dessert and our cost was $55.00 each including tip. If you don?t believe me try it for yourself and you?ll be pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended and I will go back.

Simple but elegant. I love this place. Walking distance from our hotel in times square, so adorable. Friendly service, decent prices and a great overall feeling. We made reservations, which may be recommended, its small and may be packed on the weekends.

This little restaurant was really nice. We had some bread and focaccia with olive oil and 2 mini brushetta as we were waiting. My husband took the mozzarella & tomato salad and the mozzarella was really really good. I had the spaghetti zuchini with mint and my husband the penne puttanesca and both were excellent. I would recommand this restaurant. Very good price too.

This restaurant is not bad, but not great either. The service was pretty average and so was the food. While it is reasonably priced for HK, it's not exactly cheap.

I was referred to this place by my former boss in 2000 as a pre-theater eatery. Every time I have returned I have had a lovely time. It's quick and fast... with generous portions. Not a place I would recommend for a romantic meal on theater nights, as the room is bustling and the energy is high... and the table turnover is quick... but it's small and cozy enough for a nice quiet dinner after 8... or on a monday evening.
The seafood medley dish is extraordinary... big pasta bowl filled with all the joys of the sea... wine was good. I always opt to go here for before theater if I know I have a short timeframe and want a quick, decent-sized meal.

I'm tired of fancy fusion. I hate tiny portions. I have no tolerance for snooty hosts. That's why I love Cara
Mia. A real trattoria serving great but simple food, without the attitude. Go ahead, enjoy.

I was looking for a decent Italian place to accommodate a my family while they visited NYC. We tried getting a reservation at Carmine's on Broadway....one year waiting list. I did a search on the net and found Cara Mia. I was not that optimistic, my brother who is super picking would be there and he has torn apart some of the best places I know. Cara Mia passed his test and our entire party of 12. They were able to take a reservation the night before for the time that we wanted. When we arrived, our table was ready. The service and staff were exceptional. The food was out of this world. Apps, entrees and dessert were to die for. The waiter talked me out of my standard order of Chicken Parm and talked me in to a special of Mahi Mahi. Wow, was it delicious. The whole night was fantastic. Any future trips to the time square area will include a stop at Cara Mia. We are big fans of Mulberry Street and Little Italy the Bronx, this place fills a stop in between. 5 stars to Cara Mia!!

This was close to the Theater district. Good menu selection and good value for the money. The stuffed mushrooms and risotta are excellent.

Wow! Went to Cara Mia by chance and what a lucky accident that was. The service was great, with a waitstaff that was knowledgable and attentive. THe food was excellent, and being an Italian I am a tough critic. The pasta is made fresh, which is a treat in itself. The menu was sophisticated yet not pretentious and featured some classic dishes as well as the chef's own combinations. Only complaint was that I felt some of the decor was a little mismatched. Pricewise, it was definately moderate and affordable for the quality of food and serivce. For dessert get the chocolate mousse cake!

My entire family went to dinner there after a matinee. We were a large group and were sat immediately. The Food was great: a bunch of appetizers and nine dinners, and not one complaint. The wine selection was huge and had a number of reasonably priced bottles. The service was good, the waiter was attentive without being overbearing. However, our dinner was early and by the time we left the place was very crowded (they didn't rush us at all!!), so if you are going with a big group I wouldn't recommend peak hours since it's small. Overall it was a great experience, good enough in fact that we are planning to go back the next time we get together for a show and dinner!

I've been going to Cara Mia since they first opened and I never get tired of it. I've referred local friends, friends visiting from out-of-town and strangers (I'm a tour guide)to it and they've never been disappointed.
The specials are fabulous!
The wine selection is great!
The waitstaff are attentive, but not intrusive and responsive to my bread addiction.
I took my nephew there for his birthday when he was about 8 and my sister told me he later referred to the dessert as "Mom, it was so good, I'd cut off my arm for a piece of that cake."
It is the absolute best deal for wonderful Italian food without going broke.

We had a reservation for three on Friday evening. We told the hostess we had a reservation. She didn't say anything, instead talked to this woman who seemed to be a manager. She said nothing to us and made us stand there for a while. She then told us rudely to move away because we were blocking the entrance. There were 3-4 empty tables enough for us, but she did not want us to be seated. We were kicked out to the cold and waited. It was over 15 minutes past our reservation time, and no one came to get us although there were empty tables. We told the hostess to forget about it. She didn't say a word and just gave us a dirty look. Where is customer service? We will NEVER try to go there again. That is the RUDEST place in Hell's Kitchen!!!

I've been to this restaurant a few times and I know it is a favorite of a few friends. The ambiance is nice, though when busy it's quite cramped. The food is always incredible and they have a great wine list. The eggplant parmesan is the best I've had, ever.

My friends and I went here last night for my sister's Birthday dinner. We had read all the reviews before heading out to the restaurant, so we were prepared for anything. Here's what I have to say, the staff was attentive. (Our waiter was fantastic.) The food was better than any Italian food I've ever had. (I had the Rigatoni Pollo Pazzo, my friend had the Rigatoni Alla Siciliana, while the other had the Salmone Alla Griglia.) The dessert was heavenly. (My sister had the profiterolles, a friend had Torta di Cioccolato, and I had the hazlenut gelato from Ciao Bella.) This place came out of a dream. I'll definitely be returning very soon!

I just visited with my family. There were nine of us, and everyone loved their meal. The service was great, and they had a table waiting for us when we arrived (we made reservations a week prior). I would highly recommend to anyone. It was also very reasonably priced, we had 4 bottles of wine, appetizers, dinner, and coffee and our bill was just over 50 per person.

My friend and I were walking along Hell's Kitchen not sure where to eat. Found this place and it was a gem... both of our dishes (I had the penne ala vodka, she had a special) were delicious... they brought us tons of bread and free bruschetta and let us sit and chat for a while after dinner without rushing us. Perfect dining experience. Great atmosphere. We asked for a table by the open window to get a nice breeze and people watch. A great value too. With wine and appetizers, we spent under $60 for two people. Highly recommend.

You can't just highly recommend anything. You must be choosy with your praise. I thought Cara Mia was on the cusp of high recommendation, but not quite. The five of us were seated promptly in the back and were more than satisfied with the atmosphere -- the Italian feel, the wine on the walls, etc. My dish, a halibut with risotto, shrimp and mushrooms, was nice but not something I'd order again, although my fiancee's penne dish I would. The lengthy wine list fulfilled our thirst and the bread/bruschetta apps hit the spot early on. Service was prompt and accurate, and in the end, the bill was very reasonable for above-average cuisine. If I were you, I'd give it a shot. It's Italian food at its... second best... which still isn't so bad.

I made reservations for 2 people at 7pm on a Thursday night. Got there at 6:55/7 and was told there was a 15 minute wait (even with reservations). So we waited... and waited... and waited...

Very inconsiderate they were. They kept telling us 5 minutes, 2 minutes, 5 minutes. Pretty soon it was 7:45 and we left.

This place does not have PROMPT seating if you make reservations. In fact, don't expect to eat at your reserved time.

I arrived 15 minutes before my reservation. Decided to wait at a table for my wife since there is no bar. I was ignored completely.
So - service? NOT! Then there is the food. Veal saltimbocca, a favorite. The veal was like shoe leather - either cheap or badly overcooked. The spinach underneath was very good. This is dinner?
Even though it was only 6 p.m., if there is a pre-theater menu, you better ASK for it.

Mom, sister and I did a weekend in the city - went to a show and ate at Cara Mia immediately following. After a short walk, we were there and seated immediately. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious - great selection (good specials) and the best was the affordable price. When you're in the city, you expect to pay a lot for a good meal, but not in this case! I'd return in a heartbeat!

We went to this restaurant on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine's Day. I made reservations about a week in advance, and was so glad we made this choice. It's such a small, quaint place, perfect for a date or a casual dinner. The food was outstanding, he had pasta and I had a veal dish that was to die for. The prices were definitely reasonable, I think we got a lot for our money. I definitely recommend it and plan on going back soon!

My wife and I tried Cara MIA based on the reviews in CitySearch and we were not disappointed. Even though it's maybe 15 feet wide at it's widest point, we were never crowded, always attended to, and had two great meals. We wanted a quite, romantic place for dinner before our broadway show and we got it. We'll go back again.

This place is by far the BEST place I have gone out to yet. The food was the BEST! The wine was even better. I took my girlfriend, her mother and two family friends to dinner, and we all loved it. After dinner, dessert, and two bottles of wine, the whole thing only cost me a little over $200! If you are looking for a nice little place with great food, great wine, great service for a great price then look no further. This place is a MUST GO!

Last week was my first time at this restaurant where I brought a date I wanted to impress and it worked like a charm. The ambiance was just what I hoped for and the attentive service made the evening perfect. We had great food and wine, in particular the spinach linguine with the lobster blew my mind. They also have a great wine list and the manager reccomended some wine I never heard before that was just deliscious. Thanks for the wonderful evening.

I keep coming back to this cozy and amicable hell's kitchen Italian trattoria because it's got the best of both worlds, food & wine.
Prices are so affordable for the quality and consistency of their dishes and their wine list is so unique and versatile. They have wine from Italy that will blow your mind, and enhance your food experience, without breaking your bank. I am preatty confident to say that I found the best deal in this area. Enjoy the restaurant after theatre crowd, the ambiance is just right.

I have been to Cara Mia so many times in the last 2 years and I have never been disappointed of service food and atmosphere. The food is delicious but most important, always "consistent". They have the most friendly staff and the management has always made us feel at home. They treat people like guest instead of mere customers and they give you the real home feel. Honestly if anyone gets disappointed they need to look at how they behaved. Act like a guest and you'll be treated like a king at Cara Mia.

My family and I discovered Cara Mia this year and since then it has been our favorite hang out place besides our own living room. The only negative thing is that the food made my mother jelous because it's really as good as hers. When in the mood for fresh pasta and good inexpensive Italian wine we always go to Cara Mia and know that we'll be treated right. The service is prompt and attentive and if you're not going to a show, after the pre-theatre crowd is gone, this place is a little gem.

It's a pity when what should have been (and would have been) an excellent dining experience is marred by a rude, arrogant maitre d'. This young man publicly reprimanded us for tearing off a section of the protective paper tablecloth so that we could fold it into a wedge to steady our wobbly table. "What do you think you're doing? I never heard of such a thing!" he huffed. "There are people to fix those things, people who WORK HERE!" And with that he snatched the torn paper from the table, crumpled it up, muttered under his breath, and had the table re-set. Did we really commit such a heinous faux pas, a breech of etiquette so unforgivable, that we deserved to be humiliated? That kind of disrespect wouldn't surprise me at a fast food restaurant, but it astounded us at a supposedly upscale restaurant like Cara Mia.

Pros: excellent food, wide selection, reasonable prices

Cons: rude maitre d', public humiliation

Cara Mia offers delicious and creative Italian cuisine with excellent service and ambience. They specialize in homemade pastas (be prepared to see at least 6 pasta specials on any given night), as well as a variety of meats and fish. Ive been there a few times. Both their lobster and steak specials are fantastic

Cara Mia is a great place to take a date for dinner and its very close to the theater district.

Most of the time, Italian restaurants are too Americanized. The food gets bland and loses it authenticity (ie. Olive Garden). This is not true with Cara Mia. You can even order in Italian, which I love.

Cara Mia is definitely one of the best Italian restaurants in the city and if you havent been there yet, its a must try. Entrees range from $15-30 and the portions are huge.

Our waiter vanished, so we asked another if they had a dessert menu. "Yes." Perhaps he thought we were just taking a poll, not that we wanted to see it! When our waiter reappeared, we asked him for the dessert menu. Never brought us the dessert menu, just the check. Guess he decided we shouldn't have dessert!

I lived and learned to cook in Italy. I was there for 6 years and can say with some authority (my Italian husband agrees) this place does it right! The best way to judge an Italian restaurant is by its pasta al pomodoro, it was great - just as good as my own (if not better). My husband had the ravioli of some sort and was very pleased to have finally found an Italian place worth actually paying money for.

Cara Mia is an amazing NYC experience not to be overlooked! On top of the excellent food, service, and unbeatable prices, my entire party was treated just like family.......when the check was finally given, it brought tears to my eyes; I wanted to stay forever. I will go back to NYC very soon just to be reunited with my Italian family at CARA MIA!!!

cute little room, nice on good day with doors open
very interesting menu, roasted calamari different and good
service could use a little more coordination, polish otherwise marks would have been much higher. better than most of the "names" in the theather district. imho

Cara Mia's not far from Times Square, but its intimate setting seems worlds away from that fast-paced setting. The quality food draws in tourists and locals alike.
