My husband has been unemployed since Dec, 2009. The only source of income that we have at this time is mine's (Wife). My income alone can not provide for a family of five (5), two adults, and our two children, one child who is under the Autism Specturm. However, since my huband has been unemployed now going on 3 months, I could not cover our family financial expenses of, rent, food transportation, family personal needs, etc. We have tried finding help from 211, being refered to: Echo housing, Eden Housing, Salvation Army and last but not least, we found Catholic Charites. In fact my husband went down to Catholic Charities: 1st time filled out the application; we were not selected: The 2nd time, filled out the application: we were not seclected. The 3rd and final time, filled out an application, my husband received a phone call, did all that was required. Everything sound and looked positive for us, because Catholic Charties, (Oakland), told my husband that they can't help us with our back rent because we are now far behind, but that they can help us with moving into a new place if we were to find one. Well, we did find a new place to live; a place that would be affordable based on my income, but when my husband presented all the necessary documents of my monthly income to Catholic Charities, because I made $300.00 more over the required capp, the woman told my husband that she don't know if they (Catholic Charities) can help us, but she would give him a call back to let us know.

The lady never did call my husband back, even after he made two attempts to get a yes or no anwser from her. On friday, March 5, 2010, my husband went on a job interview, when he came home from work there was a notice on our front door from Alameda Co. Sheriff dept that we have three days to move.

We are now homeless, seeking emergency shelter for ourselves and our two children, ages, 7, and 11.

My heart is sadden that there seem to be only help for the immigrants, and very low income. However when people like oursleves, tax paying citizens who are in dire need of help there is none for people like us. Just because a persons works and their monthly income goes over a capp, it does not means that we are rich and can fend for ourselves when there is a lost of income.

I know what I am writing does not matter to anyone out there, but sometimes I have to release my pain through my writing, expressing how I am feeling on the inside.

Catholic Charities I am dissapointed in you and others out there who makes it hard for us working adults that gets in unexpected financial crises, that unless you are immigrant, or very low income, that there is NOTHING that you can do for us.
