I was referred to Dr. Tumulty by my veterinarian for a complete sonogram on my Chocolate Point Siamese rescue, who had taken suddenly ill and was declining rapidly. He is a Board-Certified Specialist in Internal Medicine. It was clear on the day that I brought her in that she was catastrophically ill and that the probable cause was FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a 100% fatal disease. Jazz had been rescued from the streets four years ago and it was probable that she came from a cattery, which, along with shelters, hoarders and feral cat colonies, is a breeding ground for this horrendous ailment.

Dr. Tumulty was gentle, compassionate and informative. He did a complete sonogram on Jazz and ascertained that every one of her organs, i.e., lungs, liver, kidneys, heart, etc. was normal The only abnormality was the large amount of fluid in her stomach, which made the FIP diagnosis nearly a certainty. From a feisty, loving, in-your-face cuddle bunny, this 6 pound dynamo was now a ravaged shell in a matter of weeks, in the blink of an eye.

Dr. Tumulty explained that FIP is a mutation of the corona virus, which most cats carry without ever developing FIP. This made it improbable that my other cats would become fatally ill. He treated Jasmine gently and with great respect and, at my request, called ahead to my regular veterinarian so that I could bring her over to help her across the Rainbow Bridge. The cost for the sonogram and the consult was not unreasonable and, since all of my pets carry insurance, was 80% covered. I cannot speak more highly of the treatment we received at LIVs in general and from Dr. Tumulty in particular. He made an almost unbearably heartbreaking situation a little more bearable and for this I thank him.

The Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) are a very special and caring group of veterinarians. Our research lab, the Computer Vision and Image Processing Laboratory at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, has been actively engaged in research with LIVS for a number of years. We have been continually impressed with their ability to consistently sustain cutting edge research while maintaining one of the best veterinary clinics in the nation. We have seen that they provide the most compassionate and excellent care available. It has often been a source of amusement that during some of our critical and important research meetings we are often interrupted by Dr. Marinos need to serve a patient it is clear that the priority here is to take the best care of the animals as is humanly possible. Even though Dr. Marino and LIVS are very involved with state-of-the-art research the priority for the care of the patients is evident.

During the course of our research over the past 30 years we have been involved with a number of medical facilities and I have never seen one that does such an excellent job of serving all their clientele so effectively. I believe it is primarily due to the dedication of Dr. Marino and his staff, their genuine concern for the animals, as well as their human families, is second to none. Additionally, with access to and direct involvement in current research, the facility is in a unique position to provide their patients with diagnostics and treatments not available anywhere else in the world. Additionally, the concern to keep costs down is paramount as evidenced by our research to facilitate bringing more cost effective diagnostics into the clinic. Specifically, the research and development of thermographic image analysis will lead to much more cost effective diagnostic imaging methods than are currently available. If you care about your pets, LIVS is certainly the best choice for veterinary care.

Dr. Infernuso is an extremely talented and compassionate surgeon. Not only does he perform miracles on cases no other doctor is willing to touch, but has a wonderful bedside manner and is always available for questions. Dr. Infernuso has helped our rescue group SNARR Northeast, with several dogs' surgeries. His latest case for us is a dog named Bucka. This poor dog was born with all 4 legs severely deformed. Each of Bucka's back legs needed 4 different procedures done to straighten them. We could not believe our eyes when Bucka came out of his first surgery...his leg was perfectly straight!!! Dr. Infernuso is brilliant...I would trust nobody else but him for our toughest cases.

My dog had developed a severe disc injury similar to IVDD. I took him to a top place in Manhattan where they wanted to charge me $10,000 for surgery! The rescue group I do some work with referred me to Dr. Infernuso and thank god they did! Not only was his rate significantly less but he was AMAZING! It was likely my dog would end up paralyzed but thanks to Dr. Infernuso's magic hands he fixed my puppy and he is now walking again! Also Dr. I was in constant communication and contact with me post surgery. He responded to me almost right away each time I texted him. You can't find that kind of "service" anywhere. He really REALLY cares about these animals. He is kind, compassionate and a brilliant surgeon. I will always recommend him too everyone and anyone and I will never let anyone else take care of or touch my dogs! Thank You Dr. Infernuso!!!

I'm not sure where to even begin with my experience so far with dr. Tomas Infernuso. I was first made aware of his work when I fostered two puppies back to back for SNARR animal rescue. Both pups were taken to me post surgery for broken legs. Both dogs were up and walking around within hours of surgery. This year I brought to him my 5 month old Pom Pom that was born with many deformities in her legs due to commercial breeding. I was a foster for her rescue than chose to adopt. The rescue searched all over the country for a vet that would attempt this surgery. Most vets advice was to have her pts because the surgery was too difficult or too expensive. Tomas was up for the challenge. Not only did he request for her to be transported to his care, he donated most of the surgery and his time. Hannah's first surgery was on march 5th. Every 7-10 days I brought Hannah to his office for bandage changes and check ups to see how the bones were fusing. When a second surgery was required upon examination of her left leg, dr Infernuso pushed all minor surgerys back that day and made time right then and there. He stayed at the office till 11 pm that night to complete his work after taking the 2 hours to do an emergency surgery on Hannah.
On a night prior to me taking a trip without her I noticed she seemed to be in pain. When I called dr Infernuso he did not hesitate 10 pm on a Sunday night to ask me to meet him so that he could check her out. Since then two days ago Hannah is finally out of her casts. She will have a long recovery of physical therapy and will be able to run and play like a normal dog:) dr Infernuso's selfless dedication, brilliant and innovative approach to veterinary medicine is second to none. Most of his time dedicated to Hannah was on his own time. His donation to rescue and time is the most incredible act of kindness I have encountered in all years of pet ownership as well as a rescue volunteer. Because of him Hannah will walk. He gave her a life;) my gratitude is endless, as I will continue her care with him be as her owner and I will also be taking the hour drive to see him for my other three dogs to be under his care for all their veterinary needs. Dr Infernuso's fight for the quality of life for animals is endless, honest, and innovative. I cannot express my admiration and gratitude enough and look forward to him being a part of my fur family's life.

Dr. Infernuso is a devoted and caring Vet. Surgeon. He performed an emergency GI surgery on my 10 year old German Shepherd a day after hurricane Sandy. I was referred to him by my regular vet. I called and he responded right away, and performed the surgery right away. He explained everything he was going to do in the surgery before hand, in a very competent manner. Thanks to him, my German Shepherd is healthy. Dr. Infernuso was very friendly and thoughtful in the recovery process, as he called a few times per day for 1 week. I would highly recommend Dr. Infernuso to anyone! He is a loving vet. surgeon.

I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with Dr. Infernuso.
I found a eight week kitten in my yard a few weeks ago. It was all alone and looked like she had a broken leg.
The emergency clinic I took her to reached out to Dr. Infernuso, a verterinarian who does orthopedic surgery. Dr. Tomas Infernuso, called me after reviewing the films. It turned out that not one but both hind legs were broken. Dr. Infernuso explained all the risks with such a surgery in a cat that small but he felt he could do it. I of course gave the go ahead and he did the surgery. He called me as soon as surgery was done and kept me updated as to her condition.
It is now almost 4 weeks since the surgery. She had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Infernuso this week and he is very pleased, as am I, to see her walking and even running! The surgery he did was very difficult and I applaude him for it. I can't imagine doing that surgery on bones so tiny! She does still need some tlc but I believe she is doing great!
The care and attention I and "Daisy" received was phenomenal.
It is very obvious he loves what he does and loves the animals he is working with.

My almost 8 yr golden had a growth on her gum. I took her to my vet, we did a biopsy (they weren't concerned b/c she's very hearty) & it came back, to everyone's surprise, as malignant- fibrosarcoma, a very aggressive form of cancer.
Dr. Tomas Infernuso called me right away (my vet had reached out to him) & explained the options. The recommendation was surgary- to remove the top jaw, past her canines. I consulted a second veterinary oncologist, who agreed w/ his recommendations. So, we moved forward.
Prior to surgery, the day of and days following Dr. Infernuso kept me abreast of everything with phone calls & many text messages, answered my questions and walked me through what to expect. He kept in contact w/ my vet & their office, along w/ the emergency vet staff during her initial recovery. I don't think anyone in the medical field (animal or human) has communicated so thoroughly. I didn't have to worry & knew my pup was given the utmost care.
The portion of her jaw that was removed was biopsied and there was a good margin (of buffer) and she's now cancer free.
I love my dog and she's 100% her happy little self, wagging her tail & running around w/o any lingering effects, which is exactly what I went into the surgery hoping for.
My take-away, is pure confidence in Dr. Infernuso abilities & thrilled w/ his communication skills. Revisiting my vets, they were also shared this confidence & were very impressed.

Not only is this doctor a professional but a genuinely caring human being who puts people & their pets before anything else. Our 5 yr old Mastiff Daisy had a terrible reaction to an anti-inflammatory that caused her to go into complete liver failure. Together over 3 months & countless visits she pulled through. A tremendous doctor and valued friend

Dear Dr. Marino,
I am doggy Mommy to Scarlett (the "miracle" Cavalier) and Pandora. Although we have never actually met personally, (tho' not for my lack of trying :-( ) I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for my beautiful Cavalier girls :-) They are doing great and I am sending you a giant cyber hug! We will be up to NY probably around the holidays and we will schedule their annual MRI's. I hope that at that time, we can get to meet face to face and if it doesn't embarrass you too much, I would like to shake your hand, and give you that giant hug! God Bless You and your amazing staff and truly wonderful facility!!

Warmest Regards,
Debbie B.

When my dog Bubbles was attacked and mauled she was on the brink of death. Her wounds were life-threatening, and she needed immediate care and many surgeries. I rushed her to Long Island Vet Specialists where they immediately began working on her. Her surgeon Dr. Infernuso, is nothing short of a miracle-worker. He operated on Bubbles for many hours that day, and performed life saving surgery. Dr. Infernuso kept me informed of Bubbles condition via phone two times a day, while she was still in critical condition after surgery. He explained all the procedures that were performed, answered all of my questions, and was so caring and compassionate. I cannot put into words the gratitude that I have for Dr. Infernuso and all of the wonderful support staff at Long Island Vet Specialists. They were so caring and gave my Bubbles the best possible treatment that she could receive. If it were not for Dr. Infernuso I may not have my Bubbles with me today. Dr. Infernuso met with me each time we had to go back for bandage changes. He took the time to talk with me and reassure me of Bubbles recovery process. I would highly recommend that if your animal needs surgery to go to Long Island Vet Specialists and see Dr. Infernuso.

This place is the biggest ripoff on Long Island. Their vets are terrible. My dog was hit by a car at 11:30 pm. This was the closest vet open. After about 2 hrs of them performing test. x-rays etc. I was told my dog would never walk again and I needed to make a decision whether or not to put him down. The bill was over $5000. The next day I took him to The University of Penn Vet Hospital in Philly. After surgery and a week and a half of rehab there, he was RUNNING around, and is basically fine now. The bill at U of P was $4500.

The only thing this place cares about is making money!!!!!

On behalf of Luigi, I would like to thank Dr. Infernuso for going the extra mile to ease my concerns about my dog's surgeries. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Infernuso. He kept me informed troughout the entire process and guided me through my options. Dr. Infernuso took the time out of his busy schedule to call me daily and update me on Luigi's condition. He is a caring, thoughtful and kind veternarian. Dr. Infernuso is truly one of the best veternarians! He is extremely dedicated to his profession and is up to date on all the latest procedures. I would recommend him to any pet owner and would definitely put Luigi back in his care if ever needed.

We all seek 2nd opinions when we are facing a difficult medical diagnosis and treatment suggestion. I am hopeful most pet owners feel the same, and would want not just the best care but the correct care when dealing with a "bigger than normal" issue. This is what brought me to LIVS. My dog was given the thumbs down at my vet's office as they were out of treatment options. The only next logical step was to put her down. She suffered from severe colitis and was dropping weight weekly. Her demeanor did not say "dog at death's door" to me...so i pressed for anything else they could do. As a last resort, I was referred to LIVS, in particular to Dr. TOMAS INFERNUSO. Upon first exam, he could see she was in rough shape. He took on the our case and I've never looked back. The healing time did take a few months and it was a lot of work, nursing her at home, but 3 months later...i have a very healthy, happy little dog. She is still on a maintenence medication, but honestly, it is of little significance. This little dog is thriving! She is spunky, has put on weight and truly has a new lease on life. To think she was on the brink of "going into the light", shakes me to my core, especially because it was NOT her time to go. I sing the praises of this Specialist group but in particular Dr. Tomas INFERNUSO. To know a vet I have full faith in and can call on for any future major medical need provides me a great level of comfort. For anything in this world..it's "who you know", and I'm glad I know Dr. INFERNUSO.

On behalf of Hersey, I would like to thank Dr. Infernuso for going the extra mile to ease my concerns about her condition. He kept me informed at the start and continued through the testing, biopsy, surgery, recovery and radiation treatment and I want you to know that I greatly appreciated it.

Hersey??s fibrosarcoma was exceedingly large and like an octopus, sent out tendrils that wrapped around the scapula which had to be removed and the muscles reattached. Post surgery biopsies revealed that the surrounding tissue was clean but he recommended radiation as an additional precaution. Each step was new and frightening, but because he took the time to speak with me and address my many concerns, I felt confident that I had chosen the right medical team to care for my beloved cat.

Dr Infernuso??s dedication to his profession and the kindness he showed me and Hershey, goes a long way in ensuring that after all that was done to him, it is no doubt that you have extended his life in a positive way. He now lives a quality life, something that he otherwise would not be able to do, all thanks to you. He now climbs stairs, jumps and runs around in play activities.

I had to make difficult choices for Hershey??s well-being and because of Dr Infernuso's caring attitude and my confidence in him as a surgeon, my decisions were that much easier. I love my cat and I am grateful to you that I can now love her longer.

On behalf of Hersey, I would like to thank Dr. Infernuso for going the extra mile to ease my concerns about her condition. He kept me informed at the start and continued through the testing, biopsy, surgery, recovery and radiation treatment and I want you to know that I greatly appreciated it.

I was fortunate to meet Dr Infernuso at Long Island Veterinary Specialists when I saw my 7 year old Yellow Lab ??Parker? was limping on her right rear leg. Parker??s regular vet was away so I immediately brought her to a few specialists in New Jersey and Manhattan where TPLO Surgery I was told was the only cure for a Cruciate Ligament Tear which Parker had . When I discussed this with Parker??s regular Vet when he returned he felt that the TPLO surgery was very aggressive for Parker and he recommended me to LIVS for another opinion. Dr Infernuso consulted with us after examining Parker and patiently and thoroughly explained my options for surgery and recovery details for Parker. I decided to go with a traditional surgical repair which Dr. Infernuso performed since this was less aggressive in that it did not require any cutting of the bone. Dr. Infernuso kept me updated throughout the day on Parker??s condition after the surgery and that entire day as she recovered. He continued to monitor her progress daily through her recovery period. He also guided us and monitored Parker through Physical Therapy and acupuncture which restored Parker to her active self in months.
Now at 9 years of age I found a small growth on Parker??s stomach which I immediately had Dr. Infernuso look at. He performed a needle biopsy and found that it was classified as a Mast Cell Tumor which can be quite dangerous. Dr. Infernuso performed surgery on Parker the next morning after hearing the results to completely remove the tumor and then guided me on a day to day basis as to what further treatment Parker then needed outside of the surgery to ensure the Mast Cell would have as low a chance as possible to return.
I can??t begin to tell you how important it was to be able to speak to Dr. Infernuso on a day to day basis with so many important and difficult decisions to be made for Parker??s health. He was always there to take the time to answer and explain any question or address any concern I had. He is the very best.

Truly, he is the Very Best!! That is a singular and heartfelt expressive which fully describes Dr. Tomas Infernuso at Long Island Veterinary Services (??LIVS?) in Plainview, L.I. Others have called Dr. Infernuso a ??Miracle Worker? - which verily he is. And in our individual case, he qualifies for us as being one twice over. Eight days ago we rushed our listless Irish Terrier Casey to LIVS where we met immediately with Dr. Infernuso. Upon his concluding a thorough examination of Casey, he operated immediately to remove a ??mass? was pressing on the sac that surrounds Casey??s heart causing it to seep blood and accumulate fluid. Just five days later, we brought Casey home and his recovery so far has been excellent and amazing (at age 13,the odds of surviving the surgery weren??t so great, to start with). Given that he had open chest surgery just 8 days ago and although he is still sleeping a lot (which certainly is okay), Casey is alert, interactive, was able to sit upright on his own almost immediately, now actually trots freely around inside our house and is possessed of sufficient recovery strength to bedevil us whenever we are trying to feed him medications. Eighteen months prior, we made our first visit to LIVS when we rushed there with Casey who was crying out from a neck pain. A damaged neck vertebrae was repaired and Dr. Infernuso was on hand to assist us at every step of Casey??s post-surgery recovery (it took a full six weeks to have him back on his feet and walking, plus many, many more weeks of physical therapy). In both cases, Dr. Infernuso helped to pull Casey back from the brink. Which qualifies him in our eyes to be something more than even a Miracle Worker; he is simply The Best - a most caring, compassionate, patient, dedicated and truly skilled veterinarian-surgeon. And we also salute the entire medical and support staff at LIVS with the same heartfelt accolades.

On 12/17/10 my heart source, my beloved 5 year old King Charles Cavelier was attacked by a Bullmastiff and had less than a 50% chance of survival. He was rushed to LIVS and into the gifted surgical hands of Dr. Tomas Infernuso who I now often refer to Dr. McMiracle. A miracle is what he performed and for that and so much more, he is my HERO! Max is alive strictly due to Dr. Infernuso and the amazing staff at LIVS. During this scary time, each and every one of the staff at LIVS gave me the support and the comfort that Max would be allright. Dr. Infernuso called me with daily updates on Max and every night when I visited, he spent time unrushed time with me explaining in detail and with compassion, what had transpired during the day with Max. I cannot explain what an additional gift this was during such an extremely painful scary time. My wish is that every town and every pet owner has a LIVS in it and a Dr. Tomas Infernuso on staff. By the way, although Max now has a prosthetitic rib cage and is missing part of his lung, liver and has a reconstructed chest cavity, he is with me and I anticipate because of Dr. Infernuso, he will be around a long time. Thank you thank you thank you...You are all AMAZING angels at LIVS...Eternally grateful, Venus & Max

I was very fortunate to meet Dr. Infernuso at LIVS Hospital in Plainview.
I brought in my 2 1/2 year old Cocker Spaniel, Maggie Mae, who was in excruciating pain and could not walk on her hind leg.
Dr. Infernuso performed the most amazing ruptured disk surgery on her and she was up slowly walking the next morning. Dr Infernuso is the most kind, gentle, caring doctor with so very much compassion toward animals as well as family members. He called us twice every day and gave us updates on Maggie Mae, and was totally reassuring and confident about every situation with her.
Thankfully, because of Dr. Infernuso, Maggie Mae is healing and walking well. I am so happy to finally see my dog pain free.
Dr. Infernuso is a valuable asset to LIVS and an exceptional, excellent surgeon.
He was just so terrific to deal with in every way!!
Thank you so very much Dr. Infernuso!!!

Upon entering L.I. Vet Specialists the first time, I was amazed at the atmosphere and elegance of the environment. I felt as if I was in a hospital for humans. My Chanel was in need of two total hip replacements and two patella luxations. The care that she received was amazing. More amazing was the work of Doctor Marino, who I researched was one of two doctors in the U.S. who performed the nano hip replacement. He took the time to explain and for me to understand. Chanel's knees were done by Doctor Infernuso who, along with his team took unbelievably great care of Chanel. When Chanel became quite ill, he would call me to inform me of Chanel's progress. If he couldn't, he made sure a staff member did. On his days off he would go and check on her and report to me.I have to admit, I was quite impressed and amazed that he cared for Chanel almost as much as I did. The people I have met there, felt the same way when we spoke as we waited our turns. Your tears and joys are shared with the staff and it is a comfort to know that such a place exists. Doctor Infernuso works from his heart and your pet feels it. I know, because Chanel will go right to him during our visits. She allows him to handle her and do what needs to be done. Doctor Infernuso is also concerned and cares about the pet's family. He inquires on how you are doing and what he can do for you. I know......... he has handed me many a boxes of tissues!!!!

This letter is to say thank you to the wonderful doctors and staff at LIVS for their professional and caring manner.
My 18 year old cat, Ze, was diagnosed last October 2009 with nasal cavity cancer. Her surgeon, Dr. Tomas Infernuso, did an incredible operation to save her, and then administered Brachy radiation afterward. When she wouldn??t eat, because she lost her sense of smell, they put a feeding tube in her neck for 2 months until she would eat on her own.
All through the lengthy, stressful process I was able to reach and speak with Dr. Infernuso or another Doctor, and he would inform me what was going on, answer my question and reassure me that it would take time and she would recover.
I still bring her in periodically for checkups.
I fell incredibly fortunate to have found such a great hospital with such skilled and compassionate doctors and staff working together to help people and their pets through difficult situations.

I've been going to LIVS for the past 6 months. My dog has cancer and was going to die if I didn't bring him there. They did a special treatment on him that no other place offered. 6 months later my dog is still with me and hopefully for a lot longer. There have been many bumps in the road the past 6 months, but I will tell you that the staff has been amazing , especially Dr Infernuso. He has been by far everything I could have asked for and more in a Surgeon/Vet. He has taken the journey with my dog and I. He's been there every step of the way. He's called me many times on weekends, mornings, evenings as well as his days off to check on us. You don't find many people like him. He's professional, caring and compassionate. With him its not about ego or the money. You can tell he truly loves animals as well as his job and it shows! I would highly recommend Dr Infernuso. I can't thank him enough. I don't know what we would do without him?????

My 1st experience with LIV was Jan.'09 Hershey (my chocolate lab),needed surgery. She was under the care of Dr.Marino. I told him I just lost my parants 6 months ago & I couldn't lose my dog. The surgery went well & I was very satisfied. Dr. Marino was great at calling me & keeping me updated as to Hershey's progress. He promised everything would be fine & he was right.
My 2nd experience was Aug.'10 when Hershey was recommended for surgeryon her leg & paw. I went back to LIV & was introduced to Dr. Tomas Infernuso. I was impressed by the way he explained what he was going to do. I went home & checked his credentials on line & was very impressed. Hershey received excellent care under Dr. Infernuso & he treated her like she was his own. He called every day during her stay, updates and was always available when I called. When I went back for bandage changes I noticed Hershey was very happy to see him. That tells me alot.If a dog loves you, that's a great indication of how she was treated. I have 3 rescue dogs & there is no question Dr. Infernuso is the one they will see.
I cannot express how greatfull I am to Dr. Infernuso & LIV for all he & they have done. I would recommend LIV to anyone who has a pet who needs medical attention. Dr Infernuso & the entire staff from the front desk to the back room staff are absolutely great!

There are many gifted doctors and staff at LIVS but going there can be a hellish experience. An hour plus wait to see a doctor is not unusual - even to just pick up an animal. Doctors and staff are inflexible about accommodating clients' schedules even by a few minutes. There is always an excuse - overbooking, emergencies, etc. but in the many years I have been taking animals there it has never changed. This is a place that seriously needs a management overhaul. I have been to other top notch veterinary facilities but have never consistently experienced the inconvenience and inflexibility I have here. It's a shame because LIVS has some gifted doctors and wonderful staff. However, there is something odd in a neurological staff that can or will not prescribe psychotropics like Prozac and instead will recommend an expensive and useless "animal behaviorist". After wasting lots of time and money with the "behaviorist", a mild dose of Prozac prevented my unmanageable dog from being put down. Given the choice I would look for quality medical care and a more professional atmosphere elsewhere.

Where do I begin. I have been there several times with 2 Shihtzus. Every visit has been exceptional. They diagnose and treat like no other office I have been too. Once I was charged for a procedure in full and once the Doctor got a closer look at my baby while she was under anesthesia . they decided we could treat her with medication instead of surgery - refunded my money. If your vet is treating your pet more than once for the same problem - get a referal here. If your vet tells you your pet has glucoma - Go to Dr. Sapienza for a 2nd opinion. You could save his/her sight! THEY ARE THE BEST!!!
