Great brunch

by Meredith P. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 321

We went there this morning for the first time. The food was fantastic. They had a special that was pesto grits that was so good. Everything was really fresh and the service was pretty good.

Excellent brunch, little wait

by Jennifer M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,290

Radial is where I go when Ria's is packed. It's usually busy, but there's generally little to no wait for a seat. The food is consistently delicious.

good brunch, but busy and slow

by Susan L. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,327

I tend to like the food at Radial. It's generally very good and well-prepared. That said, I have never been satisfied with the service. Even on days during the week, when I am at one of only 2-3 tables with people, I have waited 20 minutes for basic breakfast fare. On the weekends, the wait is daunting, and the service is painfully slow. If you go on the weekends, take a friend or a good book, and be prepared to spend a good bit of time there.

We've been here twice for brunch. Portions can be a little small compared to the usual, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Service is achingly slow.

Mmm...Radial omelet!!

by AliciaF

Radial is awesome. My favorite items are 1) their signature omelet which comes with deliciously sauteed mushrooms, onions and red pepper, pepper-jack cheese, and tomato and sour creme on the side 2) their AMAZING hashbrown potatoes--they are sliced au graten style and contain some sort of magical, spicy, creamy heavenly seasoning 3) their patio and 4) the fact that they are so committed to being an active and positive part of the community by hosting all sorts of wonderful events such as local art exhibits and joining the Green Restaurant Association.

If you haven't been, you should definitely check them out. You'll be sure to find delicious food served by friendly folks at a price that won't break your budget. Have an omelet for me!

Pros: Delicious, fun, great service, nice atmosphere

Cons: Couldn't take it with me when I moved

Fantastic Food, Atmosphere and Staff!!!

by Greg Evans

A few years ago I was told about Radial from a couple of friends of mine who live in Inman Park. And, boy am I glad they did!

The food is fresh, fast and fantastic. I especially LOVE the Veggie Gravy - the best gravy I have ever tasted. The weekend specials usually include some kind of unique grits dish and fruity waffle/pancake dsh. Sometimes my friends and I will splurge and split a 'special' waffle/pancake along with our own individual breakfasts. Also, I love the fact Radial has turkey bacon and veggie sausage along with the usual sides.

The restaurant is large and open, so my fiends and I usually don't have to wait very long to be seated.
The servers are very friendly and quick.

I have been going to Radial for several years now. I have never had a bad experience. Luckily, I live in Decatur and I make it to Radial every weekend.

Pros: Best GRAVY I have ever tasted! The Service is TOP NOTCH!

Cons: Nothing

Great Breakfast / Brunch with wonderful weekly specials!

by macguy74

Radial is one of my favorite places to eat in town for Breakfast, Brunch / Lunch. It has a nice casual feel with a great mix of people The food is always fresh and reasonably priced, and the servers & host(esses) are always friendly.

On my latest visit I had the special Cinnamon Butternut Squash Pancakes. They were perfectly cooked and super tasty. I mean where else in-town can you find pancakes with squash in them, that are also delicious to boot.

Some of my personal favorites are the Vegetarian Biscuits & Gravy with Rosemary Fennel Gravy (you can get them with real sausage too), The Jerk Patty Melt, The Breakfast Burrito, and of course any version of Pancakes.
Some other noteworthy specials are the Southern Fried Catfish & Smoked Gouda Grits, Bananas Foster French Toast, The Breakfast Casserole with flaky layers of bread, mixed with veggies and sausage, Cinnamon Roll Pancakes, and the Biscuit French toast (Yes you are reading this correctly! It's just like it sounds instead of using bread they batter and cook up biscuits totally INSANE!)

If you are ever looking for a new regular Brunch spot in Atlanta this is the place. I've taken countless out of town friends here and every time they return we always have to make a trip back.

Highly recommended.

Pros: Has some of the best biscuits and pancakes in town.

Overpriced food of poor quality

by backpackerabcd

I went with my gf because we live in the area and had not tried out Radial yet.

At first glance the prices looked reasonable, but on further inspection no sides are included.

I ordered a mocha for 3.75 and it came in a small mug that had walls half an inch thick. I would say it was about half the size of the smallest drink at your local coffee house.

I also ordered the "special" of the day. As in special for Radial to bump up their profit margin. I ordered the Cinnamon Apple french toast. I saw on the menu the emphasis on local organic ingredients. I suppose the apples were local and organic, but they were diced so small I could barely taste anything. The french toast just tasted like bread. There wasn't any thing besides the appearance that made me think other wise.

My girlfriend bought the hash that was unremarkable, but it came with a decent amount of toast so I was able to leave with my hunger somewhat satisfied.

I will never be returning to Radial and I am surprised anyone does eat there. Organic food doesn't have to mean bland and overpriced, though I do understand it costs more.

Anyways this is just my two cents...nevermind that is gone also as the people at Radial tack a surcharge on your bill that 'can be removed' if you dont feel like paying it.

Do yourself a favor and drive a few miles to one of the other breakfast establishments in the area. I have been to nearly all of them and they are all much better.

Note - I wasn't able to publish this with Zero stars.

Pros: Cool building

Cons: Everything else

Awesome Breakfast and Brunch in Atlanta!

by ATLshoegal

Radial is a great place to go to for breakfast, brunch or lunch. They serve breakfast all day, which I love! The pancakes are amazing! We also tried the hummus sandwhich and turkey burger, which was really good too. It has a casual atmosphere and a huge space, so it never feels too crowded, like many breakfast restaurants around town.

Pros: Pancakes!!

I go here every weekend!

by CbgetwnGrl

The brunch here is just fantastic and I have always loved anything I have gotten here. The vegetarian biscuits and gravy are amazing and I love the fact that mostly everything is organic. This restaurant is a green restaurant and really pushes to use fair trade products. The artwork is usually interesting and displays local artists. Also, there are several vegetarian options and every good restaurant takes that into consideration. I truly believe the people behind this restaurant care about their community and give back as much as possible. I will continue to go here as long as I live in Atlanta.

Pros: Atmosphere, green restaurant, artwork, vegetarian options, brunch

Cons: None- love it.

Great Local Flavor with Interesting Artwork

by davidhgay

We love the local artwork and exposed brick walls. This atmosphere tends to attract a diverse mix of artists and city dwellers. Wood booths line a wall of windows overlooking the train tracks, while stools by the counter offer a view of the bustling open kitchen. The popular breakfast menu features pancakes, omelettes and hash. Southern-tinged specials include Cajun cheese grits, shrimp and grits, and red velvet pancakes. We enjoy the atmosphere and a mix of people that you see in very few really good breakfasr spots.

So good, I went back the next day.

by justover

I really like Radial. It's a great location with great atmosphere. There is limited indoor seating but they have a cute patio. The art that decorates the entrance and walls of the dining area is great! The staff is laid-back but sharp, and I have never had anything to complain about. The first time I tried radial, I went with a largish group for lunch. I wouldn't recommend that. The dining area is too small for a crowd. The kitchen is open, so you get to see the cooks working but you also get to listen to the usual kitchen noises, which makes it hard to try to hear the person at the other end of the table. On to the food: The menu isn't huge, but they know what they do well. I had the famous red flannel hash. Boy, was it good! Also greasy. It came with a side of toast and two eggs any style. I thought the service was decent, all things considered. The next morning I was still craving breakfast so I talked my other into heading back to Radial. It was a quiet weekday morning, and the character of the place was a lot more subdued. We found a quiet booth and had a nice private conversation over delicious eggs and bacon. I had to fend off more refills so we could get to work. In summation: Heavy, carb-laden meals are pretty much what's in store here, but if you like breakfast and if you like cool, artistic and friendly atmosphere it's definitley worth checking out.

Pros: Atmosphere, food, friendly service

Cons: not good for groups

Below average at best

by bloomybecks

After seeing many good reviews, my husband and I decided to try out Radial and sadly, we were very disappointed. First of all, we went in for a late lunch on a weekday and there weren't many people there, but it took almost 45 minutes to get our food. Ridiculous. When it finally came, the incompetent server had written down the wrong dish for my husband and then had to re-enter his order! She wrote it down and still got it wrong! She didn't apologize either. I had an omelette and it was boring and flavorless. The biscuit was good though. My husband's veggie biscuits and gravy dish was pretty good, but not the best he'd ever had. Our glasses stayed empty most of the time we were there until we finally pointed it out to our server. I hate having to point out the most obvious things to a server. Also, we asked for silverware and it never came so we had to go get it ourselves. Our server was just SLOW with everything.....add in the mediocre food and how long the kitchen took to prepare two very simple dishes and it made for a poor dining experience. We probably won't be back.

Pros: Parking

Cons: Food, service, ambiance

Not as good as Cresent Moon......

by kbeechnut

My husband and I tried Radial yesterday for brunch. We became aware of it because it was voted #1 breakfast in Atlanta according to city search. We frequent Cresent Moon in Decatur. We were shocked to see that Cresent Moon was voted #7! We decided to try something new. The food was good--service very slow. We may try this restaurant again, but it will NEVER compare to Cresent Moon. I think the ratings should be switched. Cresent Moon #1, and Radial #7.

Pros: parking, and near Litte 5 Points shopping

Cons: terrible service.

"The Brunch" In Candler Park!

by jaymaygm

All I can say, "Radial" rocks in Candler Park. We are always looking for the next great brunch spot, and this is it. In a little off-beat area on DeKalb Ave. in Candler Park, this place is a stand-out.

Nice creative menu, that caters to everyone's tastes, including the vegans. Yes we can all eat together. I ordered the "Red Flannel Hash", corned beef hash, made by hand with large chunks of corned beef, and skillet potatoes tossed together. Got a side of Mexican grits, with fresh white corn, red peppers, and jack cheese on top of corn grits. Added a Vegeterian Biscuit, and I was in Brunch Heaven!

Our server was outstanding, no attitude, and brought a smile to our faces. Is this where all the children of "The Love Generation"have gone? If so, I want to drop in again, to see what condition, my condition is in!

Pros: Creative Brunch Menu, "Love Generation" Service!

Consistently good to great brunch!

by kayleg7

As a semi regular for the last year and a half, the 'radial' keeps feeding me well. For example, today's, belgian waffle with pecan/praline & maple 'stuffing' was superb. The menu offers very good standard entrees that are greatly complemented by intriguing, delicious specials. Yes, it is busy, especially for weekend brunch, and, at those frantic times, cooking & service errors do sometimes happen, but, if you count this gem out after one weekend, busy visit, it is your loss. The inside dining room is pretty 'tight', table-wise, and busy=loud, but....the radial's food, mood etc. usually send me home satisfied.

Pros: Quick, easy access.

Cons: Hard to have relaxing brunch on busy weekends.

Phenomenal French Toast Specials!

by allenr_78

I've been dining at Radial each weekend for roughly four months now, and I have yet to be disappointed. The French toast specials are amazing, and I don't think that they have been repeated a single time thus far; amazing! With a slightly crispy crust and soft center filled with cream cheese, the specials are highly recommended. For a great, casual breakfast that won't break the bank, this is the spot. I can't wait to see how the place looks once the expansion is complete....

Pros: specials menu, large patio, local atmosphere

I just moved into Candler Park and found Radial. Lucky me... it's just a few blocks from my house! My first time in it took the server a little while to get to me, but she seemed pretty busy. I guess most good breakfast places are busy on weekend mornings. Once she brought my coffee, I was just fine :) (great coffee by the way)
My food came after a few minutes, perfect scrambled eggs, yummy vegetarian sausage and a fluffy biscuit. I've been in twice more-sat on their patio with my friends... we all had a great time and good meals.

Pros: food, big patio, location

Cons: loud inside

Yucky Saturday brunch

by prettycoffee

I ate here May 6th for Saturday brunch and it was a very unpleasant experience! I ordered the so called buttermilk pancakes and they were very light and appeared to be uncooked. I decided to overlook the appearance and actually taste the pancakes. The pancakes had no flavor and tasted like a mouthful of dough. In addition to the "light skinned" and flavorless pancakes, I also ordered a side of bacon and eggs scrambled with cheese. The bacon was greasy, limp and uncooked and the eggs were cold with minimal to no cheese. Needless to say the entire breakfast was disgusting and the service was not attentive! Maybe they forgot to cook the food due to the large Saturday brunch crowd. Im still wondering how this place was voted Best Breakfast?? If you are looking for an establishment that serves uncooked brunch, then Radial is the perfect place for you!

Pros: Cool artwork, Diverse crowd

Cons: Uncooked food, poor service, horrible sweet tea

My husband and I have a standing Monday morning brunch date and ever since we "discovered" Radial a couple of weeks ago, it is our favorite spot. It is always quiet and comfortable, with plenty of parking, very friendly and attentive staff and the best weekday brunch food we've found. We're vegetarians and we've never felt stifled by the options. I am sorry to hear about the other reviewer's bad french toast experience, because I had it this week and it was the best french toast I've had in years. Way to go Radial!

Disappointing

by castroy

I went for the first time today with high expectations only to be let down. I ordered the Mom's French Toast and got the worse french toast I've ever had. Part of the bread was uncooked and soggy. I was thinking of ordering something else but the french toast quickly changed my mind. My waitress never asked me once how my food was of if I enjoyed my meal. Although, some of the other waitstaffed appeared to be more attentive to their customers. Needless to say I won't be returning. The best thing about the place was the free Wi-Fi.

Pros: Inexpensive, Free parking, Free Wi-Fi

A great disappointment...

by erstiv

After seeing the high ratings on Citysearch last weekend I decided to give Radial a try. The wait was long, the hostess skipped over us on the list somehow, and we didn't get seated for almost an hour (after being told 20 minutes). Once we got seated, the service was slow, the atmosphere was loud, and when the food came it was well below my expectations. The eggs were cold and runny, the bacon was limp and pallid, and the potatoes were less than satisifying. All in all a great disappointment...I will not be returning.

Pros: good parking

Cons: loud, crowded, bad food

Locally owned and good food!

by onechris

For all the people who complained in the reviews do ask for the owner next time as they work with the staff everyday and strive very hard to make the service great. I am revising my review since it has been some time since I did the first one for Radial. I still think the service is good. The wait staff does good. The food always gets to us pretty fast. I never have waited very long to get seated. I avoid the peak times which is weekends from opening to 1 pm but if you go after that time it is fast. I know vibe is important but a serious flaw I have read in the reviews is people always are so fast to blame the wait staff but perhaps it takes two to Tango so could a bad attitude from the customer also be to blame? I think my great experience here has been reapeated since I am always very nice to the wait staff. They are humans so they will make mistakes. If I was paying $100 for the meal then being pompus could be alright maybe but this place is local owned small business. I for one like to support the local places and the owners need the support. It has to be hard to own a business that is food related. Next time ask for the owner or call back to tell them what is own your mind and perhaps that will get things fixed but give Radial a try. I know they want to stick around!

Daily specials are great. Variety here is good. I love grits and each week a new type is on the specials menu. I have tried several specials and they are great. Also love the breakfast. Vegans have no problem eating at this place. Also wait staff is easy to deal with ... No attitudes. Sunday is busy but then anyplace in Atlanta that is good is busy on Sunday! Each month a new artist is on display so the walls are always fresh with art. They have also gone green here so they really love the planet!

Pros: Neighboorhood, Artwork, Good Vibe

Cons: One stop shop

how did this place get rated so well?

by crayhughes

So, I read the review for radial on citysearch, which is usually accurate. I then went to radial on a sunday around 11:15 am with a couple good friends. The place was packed, and a good number of people were waiting to be sat. The host said it would be about fifteen to twenty minutes. I wasn't very hungry, but just looking to hang out and grab a bite while discussing the fun from the evening before with my buds. After we hung around for over an hour, we decided to look at the menu and food, to evaluate why it was taking so long. The food looked so plain, nothing special, and so was the menu. I am not vegetarian, and the food seems to be geared in that direction. This restaurant should not be rated so well. I left without eating, and will not return.

A Change From The Ordinary...

by holttony

Radial is popular but not overly so. The wait time at 1:00pm on Sunday was 20 minutes. Places like Thumbs UP are easily 60 minutes. Radial is a well mixed atmosphere from the obviously *Well Connected* to the *Strangley Tatooed*. My partner and I had their omelettes which were out of this world. Extremely fluffy with fresh ingredients. We shared an order of their French Toast. They were absolutely fantastic. It comes with Strawberry Rhubarb sauce which was fantastic, but I recommend asking for it on the side. Ask for the regular syrup, the little cup of "pure" maple syrup is not worth the $1.75. If you're a coffee drinker, you'll love theirs. Definitely one of the smoothest I've tasted. Lasly I recommend bringing a conversationalist. The service was a little slow, possibly understaffed. All in all we will be going back for their Cinnamon Sugar Waffles!!

Pros: Friendly Staff., Cool setting., Great Food.

Cons: Quicker Service.

My husband and I went to Radial for the first time a few weeks ago. The pancakes melt in your mouth with a wildflower hunnybutter. The vegetarian biscuits and gravy don't taste vegetarian - they're GREAT! He had the special - the black forrest waffles with raspberry puree. They weren't great, but still good. Overall the service was very good, the food was great, and the atmosphere was a lot of fun. We look forward to going back soon!

If you are looking for great foor, unique menu items, health conscious menu items, freindly service and prompt service did I mention the diverse atmosphere, then you can not go wrong with Radial. My wife and I along with a good friend ventured to this hard to find locale and it was worth the hunt. The vegetarian saugage was tasty and the buck wheat pancakes were delicious. The vegetarian biscuits and gravy had my wife smiling for some time. Our friend, who is a very picky eater, said he has a new #1 breakfast spot. The Radial is a great Atlanta in-town treasure, hidden away, which is good for us in the neighborhood. Friendly, laid-back staff, diverse clientelle, funky fluid art and a fab owner who cooks, greets, seats, waits tables and chats. Love the many takes on pancakes...try the cornmeal ones on special. Everytime I have gone to the Radial, the food has been awesome. The menu seems to change frequently, yet keep the best things, so that everytime I go I am always satisfied. The prices are good, the service excellent. I like how the art on the walls is always changing. I have brought my family several times, and there is always food everyone wants to eat. Check it out. You won't be disappointed.

Pros: excellent food, good prices, interesting art
