I had dined at Meme several times. The food was great every time. What improved exponentially was chef's Katz attitude towards his customers. In the beginning, he had this grumpy attitude, barely answered compliments, etc. I decided all I care about was the service and quality of food, which was on the plus size every time. I continued to go back and recently, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that Mr. Katz's attitude towards his customers not only improved, but he became quite the charmer.

Some of the dishes I had there and were beyond delicious are: the fetucinni that melt in your mouth, the pork that was so juicy and perfectly cooked and full of flavor that I can honestly say it was THE BEST pork I've had in my whole life, the duck with beets, so tender you feel like you've reached heaven. Mmm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Give it a try. You won't be sorry.

Pros: Yummy food, byo (with a cork fee)

Cons: A litttttle pricy

Had a fantastic dinner with friends at this restaurant while visiting from Los angeles. Loved the Moroccan Swordfish and really enjoyed deserts. They also had a great, but not expensive wine selection. Would certainly visit if in the area.

Pros: Delicious and not Overwhelming Meal

Cons: Doesn't always have Foie Gras

We just came home from a lovely dinner at Meme. The dining room is intimate and cozy. The service was professional and knowledgeable and most importantly the food was delicious.
We loved the sizzling mussels and the foie gras w/plump sweet figs. The grilled asparagus with the thinnest slice of proscuitto and topped w/a poached egg was yummy. The steak and fish were also delish. And I am a big fan of cheese as a dessert option.

Ralph Steadman created their fabulous logo. It's really cool. But he never got paid for it. And the owners don't intend to pay him for his work. odd.

Small corner "bistro" with wood tables, shimmering silverware chandelier, and food photos on the wall. it has this cool funky vibe going on. Our four person table mowed thru pretty much the whole menu except the cheese section(so many other good things, we just couldn't physically do it). Highlights were "sizzling mussels"(never seen anyone prepare them this way), steak tartare, foie gras thingee(forget name) that was heavenly, and the salads too were on point. there were a bunch of specials too. as far as entrees, we had the whole chicken. hands down, best in the city. crispy, succulent and huge, with mushrooms and a side of onion grits. we had duck breast, rabbit parpadella(again better than any italian pasta joint). there is also plenty of fish options. we didnt have any, but the table next to us did, and dam did it look good. the desserts raised the bar. so many places just mail in dessert, not this place. we had this small but full lemon merengue pie, it looked like a castle with all the merengue spires. Meme also has a wine list, and its completely approachable. cheap(or shall i say value) glasses of wine and bottles. It was nice to be able to try a few different without getting bent over. All in all. welcome to the 'hood, looking forward to seeing you again

Cons: closed on tuesday and no saturday brunch

This is a truly fantastic place, with impeccable food, great service and a superb aura! We have been here numerous times, for both dinner and Sunday brunch, and have had a great experience each time. I salivate just at the thought of the sizzling, steamy muscles, and the foi gras tart, which i have had for both appetizer and dessert, it's that delicious! The chicken is out of this world, and even thought i am known to not order chicken at restaurants, I cannot stop craving the Meme chicken. Other favorites are the skirt steak, the boar ragu, and the duck breast; also, there are always great specials on the menu, which have been a delightful surprise. OH and the desserts, the glorious desserts: the pot-de-creme, and the chocolate gonoche cakes are mouthwatering; it's tough to leave space for them, but we have learned that it's imperative! Meme is a true gem to Philadelphia. Thank you David Katz!!

Cons: none that I could think of

Meme is an absolute waste of money and is simply taking up space in a great neighborhood full of tasty byobs. Recently I joined friends for dinner and we all were not only dissapointed with the food but felt truly unwelcome by the staff. The atmosphere of meme - with the open kitchen - attemps to create the same ambiance as audrey claire, however it feels like grandma's living room. The menu is quite limited with only five or six entree options - and they were out of two. Our server was extremely push about the amount of food that we ordered and referred to her suggestions as "trying to sell us". And here is the kicker friends - there was a huge black pube on our cheese plate. This place will be shut down in less than a year. Don't be caught dead at meme

To sum up the night, I don't know if I've ever had such a bad experience at a restaurant in my life. The focal point of the night lai d in the hands of the cook staff, who decided to stare at the woman I was with about the entire time we were there. She tried to make light of the experience in pretending it didn't both her, but in all actuality she didn't want to sit there for another second longer. She felt uncomfortable, and we didn't want to make any sort of scene in saying anything. It was just a very disrespectful thing to do. The other problem we had was our meal, I had the lamb and she had the catch of the day, the lamb was cold, chewy, and under cooked, the ratatouille was medicore at best, and the mashed potatoes were also cold and not very good. I realize I could have had it heated back up, but we were more in a rush to leave, and should I really have to ask to have my food heated back up? We were one of three tables the two others had already finished their meals, and dishes are coming out cold? She had the catch of the day which she didn't enjoy, she thought it wasn't seasoned properly and had a very bland taste. I honestly never felt so disgusted to spend 100 dollars in my life, I felt like I had been conned into something. We actually stopped at Wawa on the way home, that pretty much sums up our night.

My wife and I had brunch here yesterday. We had baked eggs with mushrooms and gruyere, raisin french toast and a side of biscuit with sausage gravy. All the food was great. They have a short beer list with some great options...we had La Fin du Monde, and Schneider Aventinus, but started with $7 mimosas (nice prices).

The service was punctual and friendly. Music is very cool! I would highly recommend this place...it's by far the best option in this neighborhood.

I went here a month or so ago and already cannot wait for my reservation next weekend. My friend and I had a couple of yummy appetizers, followed by the fettucine with wild boar and the sauteed skate. The fettucine noodles melted in our mouths, and the boar was tender and complimented the pasta well. The skate was perfectly cooked and sat upon the most delicious whipped potatoes and tapenade. Our dessert, the brioche bread pudding with vanilla cream, was so good, I had to mention it to the chefs in the open kitchen as we left the restaurant. The only negative aspect was our oddly mannered waitress, but at least she timed our service well and was not overly intrusive.

I was ready for a great meal after reading all of the fabulous reviews. Let's just say disappointed is an understatement. If you want a great meal go to Matyson or Melograno, not here.

I went to Meme the other night with a group of girls. We were pressured into ordering more food because the waitress insisted that we were not ordering enough. She was very rude about it and pretty much forced us to order more. The appetizers came out and were very much over-priced for the portions. We ended up with an extra $30 on our bill and were stuffed because our entrees would have been plenty. I ordered the skirt steak and was very disappointed. It was really tough and they had used way too much salt in preparing it. The only good thing about Meme, for me, was that it is currently BYO, although that is even going to change in the future as they are applying for a liquor license.

Overall, I was very disappointed and would not go back.

My wife and I live locally and were a bit worried when Melograno moved away as we went there almost weekly. Thankfully Meme has stepped up to the plate and not let us down. The menu is limited so we don't eat there as often as we did Melograno. That said, each dish is superb and the roast chicken with polenta is simply devine. Extend the menu a little and get a few more specials going and it will be perfect.

Went to MeMe last night. Flat out, this place is incredible. where oh where shall i begin. Simple, the food. There are so many interesting items that you could eat a different combo each time you go. And believe me, we are going to go back again and again. They take reservations, tooo. We had the freshest homemade handspun pasta(fetticini with a meat sauce). we tried oysters, scallops, and foie gras(oh glorious foie gras). A lamb dish with mashed potatoes and a whole roasted chicken with grits and shrooms. But wait there is more(said like the ginzu knife commercials of my youth) we had dessert that featured a baked apple on top of toasted pound cake with ice-cream and ILLY coffees. Our bill was under $100. Are you kidding me. This is the best value in town. The Chef even came over and talked with us about how he prepared certain dishes and we even talked music and sports. that was soooo cool. Its a small place and bounds with energy. Kind of weird saying this in a restaurant review, but Meme plays great music. Not that staid base-less restaurant soundtrack stuff, but real music. so freshing The staff is attentive and professional. You ever go to place that just feels so right. This place has a soul, and looking forward to going back.

First of all, the food is for real. Simple almost bistro style stuff with very bold flavors and not shy on the foie gras. The foie gras tart is dangerous good as in I could spend car payments on it and get too fat to leave my house. Mussels I've never seen before...anywhere were by far the best mussels I've ever tasted, and the duck was great with chard and beets that tasted like earthy goodness. The space however is sooo much better looking than Melograno it's rediculous, I wouldn't have even thought that space had this much potential. Great yellow color on the walls, beautiful photos of garden/market scenes and some great looking piglets. The light fixtures are made of hanging silverware (very, very cool) and a bunch of cherry wood, especially the table tops. I ate like a king in this place too for $44. I'll be back.

Each time, our dining experience has been superb at Meme! From the first time we walked in weeks ago, to our last scoop of the expresso pot-de-creme tonight, it's been pure bliss! The kitchen's expertise is clearly demonstrated through all of the dishes that we've tasted, such as the scallops with butternut squash and bacon, a foie gras tart that is subtle yet intense with layered flavors, the tender and perfectly done duck breast, as well as the most delectable chicken. Could keep going, but.... Such refined dining in a nice laid-back atmosphere is very refreshing to our neighborhood. The vibe created by the staff and the music enhance a truly great dining experience. As I was leaving, I got my next reservation! No one could stop me now!!

I really like what this place is doing. They have it nailed down in all phases and aspects of the game, from service, to ambience, to most importantly the food. Upon entering we were greeted kindly by each member of the staff we passed. Having worked in the biz for many years, little things like this make a difference. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. Started with the fois gras tart app, and it was insanely delicious. My wife had the skirt steak entree while I had the duck, and both were tops. The plates look a bit on the small side, but we did not leave hungry. For dessert we shared the pots de creme and it was a great way to end the meal. The music they played in the joint was dead cool. Not often enough have I listened to Steel Pulse while dining at a hip byo in Philly. We will be back for sure.
