The Scene
The original Taco Mac is a Virginia-Highland landmark. Claiming best beer and wings since 1979, the casual meeting spot keeps its customers with a huge beer selection, unpretentious food and no dress code. The laid-back attitude befits the Highlands blend of college students and after-work minglers. Simply decorated with neon beer signs, glass coolers, TVs showing sports and four-seater tall tables, the Mac caters to those who don't want to grow up.

The Draw
The enormous beer selection and non-stop wings make new customers regulars. The wings are customized, available in several different spice levels: mild to Three Mile Island to something called "death." An updated menu offers a fresh change with grilled salmon salad and shrimp fajitas, but keeps the popular Tex-Mex favorites and huge sandwiches. The crowded deck at the bar's corner location of Virginia and Highland Avenues affords prime people-watching all season long.

Key Points

  • World Class Beers
  • Delicious Food
  • Great Atmosphere

The Inside Scoop

  1. When to Go - Enjoy the game at the only Highlands bar with Direct TV sports packages. Seven TVs ensure that everyone in the bar has a good view.
  2. Save Money - Thursday night is pint night. Buy the beer of the month, keep the glass.
  3. The Extras - Drink 125 different bottled and draft beers from the "passport" list and receive a T-shirt, personalized mug and a plaque on the wall.

This is a great location right in the middle of the Highlands. This feels more like a local bar than the other locations, but you still have the beer selection that you come to expect from Taco Mac.

Ratings_icons Beer?

When I eat here I love to order beer and wings. They have the largest beer selection I have ever seen! It seems like you don't ever have to drink the same beer twice unless you're a lover of Belgium white like I am and just want to do the same ole same ole. Check it out, you'll be amazed!

You can certainly tell this location has been here quite some time. We are frequent visitors of all locations. And they always exceed our expectations with food and beer choices. Sometimes the staff is a bit slow but the managers to come around checking on your visit and during football, they will change the TV's to your team - first come first serve of course. Super fun

Ratings_icons The first Taco Mac ever

This Taco Mac, located in the Highlands is the original Taco Mac. They have an extensive menu and pretty good food. The wings are great and they offer several temperature options. It is a pretty cool bar if you are in the mood for some wings and beer.

Ratings_icons The Original..... Taught ATL what Wings were all about!

davidhgay

We first visited the ORIGINAL TacoMac abor 30 years ago. The old place still has the "Best Wings in ATL" if you know how to order what you want. Mine come Hot & Dry (Crisp). The sandwiches, beer, nachos and salads are the bes anywhere. Visit the Original for the nostalgia, but now they are all over town and very consistent. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK !!!

Pros: GREAT WINGS & BEER SELECTION

Cons: ITP....

Ratings_icons Great beer and nachos.

Love the beer selection. Cann't find better in Atlanta, other than at other Taco Macs. They have great chicken nachos too. Not a fan of the wings though. Great bar ambience. Get there early -the patio fills up quick.

Ratings_icons Great for Sunday Afternoon Football

akb1286

I went here yesterday mid-afternoon with a few friends and we barely got a table because so many people were there to watch football. The patio was overflowing with people drinking beer, eating wings and watching the Falcons game. The atmosphere was perfect for watching football--enthusiastic fans screamed at the top of their lungs whenever a touchdown was scored and the attentive waitstaff constantly refilled our pitcher of beer and basket of nachos.

Ratings_icons Best beer selection and very fast service

kapw

After a bad experience at Max Lagers, came here at 10:30 at night with two hungry kids and explained my frustration - my kids received their meals literally in less than five minutes. And the beer list satisfied my hunger - exceptional list, extremely friendly staff. Liked the noisy, upbeat atmosphere and multiple tvs with the latest game. Must be a great place to visit during college basketball season.

Pros: Exceptional beer selection, friendly, fast service

Cons: None

Ratings_icons Great Wings/Beer Selections

shanbowman

This is a great place to watch sports, eat wings and drink MANY different beers on tap. In the heart of the Highlands, the wings are some of the best in town.

Ratings_icons What... It's Taco Mac

foxylea

I was surprised to read the other review as poor. Taco Mac is such an Atlanta chain with popularity and sports bar environment quite suitable to the south. I'm not a southerner, but I've gotten wrapped up in the fun behind southern love for SEC sports, football, and sports bars and pubs catering to that clientele.
They have great appetizers and marquaritas, but yes, it's a sports bar, not a brewery. I go for the environment, the great queso dip, and to have fun and be social. I hear their wings are good too.

Pros: inexpensive, queso dip, environment

Cons: wouldn't get a taco

Ratings_icons Nothing Special

clincher

I really didn't like this place at all. My first beer was flat, the replacement beer was flat, and then i just give up and drank out of the bottle. Small and boring. Trust me I don't have high standards but this place is just poor.

Pros: Outdoor seating, Selection, servers

Cons: Flat Beer, Boring, Like Drinking at home
