elegant sophisticated dining with a cool relaxed feel

by lou2222

I had been to the restaurant for lunch a few times since it is close by work and always loved the food and the business professional atmosphere. So i Decided to take my wife for dinner this weekend. She was blown away with the entire dining experience! The food was top notch, full of flavor and presented masterfully. The atmosphere was perfect for our date night as she prefers piano music and nice lighting. And our server was reealy good about being attentive but only approaching at proper times. Not constantly interupting our conversaton like some servers. Thanks for making date night a memorable one! We will be back

Pros: friendly professional service, amazing food

Plenty of Other Good Restaurants in Houston

by jcblad07

My husband and I consider ourselves pretty big foodies and like to give restaurants a fair chance; however, our dinner tonight was awful. We chose Polo's to celebrate my birthday, and at first it seemed like a nice, romantic ambiance especially with the live piano music. However, we sat at the table with our menus closed, ready to order for about 15 minutes while the waiters stood around in the kitchen or were wining and dining guests that looked like they were spending a lot of money there. Throughout our entire meal they were not attentive and our food was extremely slow to come out considering how empty the restaurant was. Yes, my cesar salad was very delicious and had lots of flavor, and my husband's lobster bisque was some of the best we've tried. Yet, we don't go to restaurants of this caliber for their soup and salad. Both of our fish courses were overcooked and lacked any type of flavor. One of my scallops tasted almost rancid. The only thing good on both the plates was the grilled asparagus. We watched the chefs in the kitchen (since we had an abundance of time between courses) and realized they were placing all the orders in a large "oven." When we asked the waiter about it, he said they flash cook every plate toward the end to cook each dish through. It sounded to us like microwaving, and that's what the food tasted like. We've ate our fair share of nice restaurants and have both worked in the food service industry, and I've never seen a "fine dining" restaurant prepare food this way. For about $30 a plate, I expect my food to come straight off the grill - especially when this restaurant had maybe 5 tables this night. Overall, we will never go back.

Pros: Decor, Lobster Bisque, Chopped Cesar Salad

Cons: Service, Grilled Salmon, Grilled Snapper Special

excellent food and service

by ebyk

I can't believe that those who gave this place 1 star went to the same restaurant. Our waiter was superb. He gave us the right amount of attention, lightened the mood with his upbeat personality, and his thoughtful actions made our dinner worthwhile. Each dish came out well-presented, like the beet, peach, and goat cheese salad that was garnished with a thin slice of watermelon radish. My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and it was a pity we had absolutely no room for dessert.

Pros: nice decor, attentive and friendly waiter, delicious food

Cons: none

Really?

by dineanddash

I dined at polos for lunch a couple of months ago and thought it was ok. But like most restaurants I thought the expirience would be better at dinner.Boy was I wrong. The food was just as good but the service was horrible. The server poored way too much wine into my glass wich would be ok if I had ordered by the glass but we got a bottle. The wine list was awful with very few good wines. I really wish the server we had at lunch was still there but apparently he wised up and left. O and to top it off we had to endure not only the broken english of our waiter (ray or rob or whatever) but the owners as well, who decided to bring his drunk and stinking self to our table and wouldn't go away. I'll consider going back for lunch but the manager really needs to hire a great wait staff and keep the owner from chasing off the buisiness....O the piano was very nicely done.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Wine list, Service, Polo

not a good experience

by Heights123

The bar was staffed with what seemed like temp staff. horrible vodka martini, the owner was at the end of the bar not really paying attention to the detail but doing a good job at schmoozing. appetizers were ok, salad was small and ordinary. Our waiter was great. I felt almost sorry for him. This was my second time and I will not go again.

Pros: Great waiter

Cons: overall a poor experience that I will not repeat

Excellent fine dining experience!

by htownmoma

My husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary at Polo's this past weekend. We were treated like royalty from the time we walked in. I especially loved my braised short rib ravioli and carmelized shrimp main course! What a magical night and incredible food and service. Highly recommended - make a reservation.

Pros: Divine Wedding Anniversary Dinner

Horrible Serrvice, Inattenive Manager until the end

by TheBestCritic

HORRIBLE, the entire experience was a total disaster!! The absolute worst service I've ever experience in my entire life. The waiter was rude, condescending, inattentive, and mostly invisible. It took almost ONE HOUR to get a bottle of wine. The entire miserable experience took THREE HOURS. The manager passed through the room several times but completely ignored us. The food was "good" but not "great." I finally chased down the manager and he was most apologetic and seemed genuinely concerned about our horrible experience and comp'd the meal and asked us to give Polo's another chance with a $100 gift certificate. This was a great display of customer service, but we'll wait awhile before returning to try and forget our first experience.

Pros: None

Cons: Service, Service, Service

Crab Cake Sandwich on 7Grain Beer Bread ROCKS

by dirtydogdiner

I had lunch at Polo's Signature for the first time this week and LOVED the crab cake sandwich on sweet grain Beer bread with roumalde crab salsa . ssso Delicious and unique! The peanuty flavor of my arugula salad worked perfectly w my sweet sandwich. Mom had the smoked chicken ravioli with goat cheese which i tasted and will order next time! The service is fairly prompt and friendly though we did enjoyed a 2 hour lunch. Great special occasion lunch or dinner.

Pros: The Food. Presentation and delicious flavor

Cons: A bit pricey but a great lunch!

Eh, much better places in town

by TiramisuKing

We ate here recently, based upon the reviews here. I'm not sure how it racked up all of these five star reviews, however. I have eaten at the best restaurants in Houston, and I just did not find Polo's to measure up to my standards. The service was horribly slow; it took a half hour before we were even brought any water or bread to the table. Another half hour went by before our waiter showed up to take our menu order. Next, the waiter brought the incorrect (and more expensive) wine to our table, with his quickly uncorking it before allowing us to review the label. This followed by the waiter bringing the wrong order twice to our table, before our receiving the correct meal. The waiter never asked how we wanted our steak cooked. The food was good, but very small in quantity and barely lukewarm by the time it arrived at our table. For spending $350 for four people (two of them being our children), there are much better places that far outperform Polos here in Houston.

Cons: Slow, inadequate service

Best gourmet meal I have ever had

by 008784

My wife and I went to Polos Signature restaurant for Valentines Day, based on the recommendation of a friend. Having dined at some of the finest restaurants in the country, I fancy myself as somewhat of a food expert. What we found at Polos was a dining experience comparable to the finest we have ever experienced anywhere. Without question we will reserve Polos for special occasions when we want to treat ourselves and our friends to the "Best of the Best"!
Our hat is off to Adam, the executive chef and his staff for uncompromising quality and exceptional service!!

Thanks!!

Lloyd

Very affordable for Fine Dining!

by vickielizabeth

First of all let me just say that I eat out alot. I'll go downtown, heights, sugarland, woodlands if the food is good. And if the food is good and affordable, well I'm there! So I tried Polo's for the first time after reading all of these reviews and had to see for myself. True to the reviews, it was really good. If you're wanting fine dining without the expensive price tag, you'll love Polo's. Portion size was nice too! For a fine dining restaurant, I Definitely got my money's worth!

What a BRUNCH!!!!

by docsareus

My family and I had Brunch here last Sunday and we were pleasantly surprised by the extensive choices on the menu, from healthy omelettes, and french toast to steak and eggs. I had the seafood crepe (ask for the cream sauce on the side, it's better) which was yummy! Everyone who ordered the steak and eggs (highly recommend this dish) loved it too. The orange juices (freshly squeezed), and mimosas were also good, but the bellini's was heaven! Think I had one too many, it was that good! Oh and I almost forgot to mention that they also served our brunch with these freshly baked muffins with a whipped butter that had pecans or walnuts in it. We couldn't get enough of them! If you're looking for a place to go on Sundays, you have to try the brunch here. I guarantee you'll love it!

Gotta come here lunch!

by PetraValerio

I work around Greenway Plaza and only have time for one hour lunch. So tired of the usual sandwiches and burgers around here, me and a couple of girlfriends decided to meet at Polo's for lunch. WOW! They had a nice selection of salads and sandwiches, like the Polo's signature caesar salad was to die for! I had the crab cakes sandwich and another one of my girlfriends had the vegetarian sandwich which had avocado and portabello mushrooms. She said it was really good. Normally we don't like to spend a lot of money for lunch, so it was great that their price for food didn't break the bank! The servers knew we were on lunch break so the food came out fast! Lunch was so good I definitely would try the dinner here!

What a wonderful surprise!!!

by litman13

It was my wife's birthday and I wanted to take her somewhere nice but feared that the usual restaurants like Mark's, Tony's etc. would be overpriced and the food would be so so. I wanted some place new and had heard about Polo's through some co-workers who go there for lunch. So I took a risk and we celebrated her birthday there this past weekend. I was, of course, very critical of everything. But to both of our surprise, the food, wine, desserts and yes, even the service was phenomenal! For the first time, we were greeted by the Chef, Polo, himself! I told him we were celebrating my wife's birthday and he made sure we got the attention we needed. He was so gracious and personable! I highly recommend the lobster tower salad with fresh sliced fruits (mango, papaya) or the mixed salad with roasted pears to start. I had the rib eye steak, which was cooked to perfection, and my wife chose a lighter dish a honey glazed salmon with crab meat risotto. The portions were actually bigger than most fine dining restaurants we've been too, which was great! All in all, I would highly recommend Polo's to anyone. My wife and I plan on being regulars there!

Great Restaurant for Any Occasion

by pharmedUSA

You guys have got to try this place! Girlfriend and I were really impressed by the service and food. Try their souffle for dessert or homemade carrot cake! We even met Chef Polo when we were there. The restaurants really conveniently located. When we crave good food we don't have to drive all the way downtown and deal with the parking issue. We had a date night and went there for dinner and then jumped next door to Edward's Theatre for a movie! It was great!

Looking for something great???

by FoodLovingPhoenix2000

I wish I knew the right words to describe Polo's Signature Grill. Here are just a few:

Awesome, Amazing, Great, Super...ect.

Every time my girlfriend and I eat at Polo's it's a dining experience worth remembering. The wait staff is friendly, the atmosphere is elegant and the food is amazing. I suggest the five hour short ribs! They are one of the best things I have put in my mouth. As a repeat eater and fan of this place I suggest you try it!

Pros: Great food, and ambience.

Cons: Not easy on the pocket book.

Nothing Beats Perfection

by zaccattack

As a restaurateur, I truly appreciate a good meal when I get one! I would be remiss if I did not cascade the accolades to the restaurant and especially, the chef!!! At first glance, I was immediately drawn to the wonderful decor and attentive wait staff. The menu offered several choices that showcased the diversity and culinary level of the restaurant that would impress the most seasoned restaurateur. I can truly say, that the food was magnificent and the wine was elegantly paird. This was truly the perfect end to an evening for my fiance and I.

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

WOW!

by aminer

I just stumbled upon this site, and these reviews, and decided to start reading. I have to say that I'm appauled at the few that have submitted such negative remarks about this restaurant. It seems to me that alterior motives, rather than actual bad experiences, have inspired these reviews.

For those looking for an honest opinion, this has been my experience so far:

My wife and I dine at Polo's at least twice a month or so, and have never had anything short of a phenomenal evening under their care. We ate there for Valentine's this Saturday, and left the comfort of the dining room, with it's wonderful music, perfect lighting, and mouth-watering aromas, as blissfully satisfied customers yet again. Everything was great as usual. Definitiely worth noting are the 5-hour braised short ribs we were served as a first course. After having tasted this dish, I am thouroughly convinced that the gentlemen behind the glass in the chef's hats wield a degree of wizardry unmatched by anyone in the Greater Houston area. It was pure magic. Of course, as always, the wine was paired perfectly, and the service was friendly and expedient. All of this for a very fair price. If you are a lover of fine food, you must treat yourself to this absolute treasure of an experience.

Pros: FOOD, wine, service, ambiance, pianist, etc, etc.

Cons: Can't think of any.

New Year's Eve review

by tjcoult

My husband and I just dined at Polo's for our New Year's Eve dinner. We had a 7:00 reservation, arrived at 6:15 and were seated immediately. The only problem was the waiter mumbled something about needing all the 4 top tables, so they gave us a tiny two top right by the front door. That was fine, until every time the door opened, we were greeted with a blast of cold air! He was near our table when this occurred and rushed out to ask the door man to cease and desist from keeping the door open so long for arriving guests.

When we left, there were probably a dozen four top tables still empty, so I am not sure why we got the two top treatment. Another couple came in just as we were leaving and were given the two top next to us. They noticed right away the problem with the cold blasts of air, so I suggested they ask to move, which they did, and were given a nice four top in the private dining area.

Erin, our waitress, was wonderful. The food was outstanding and I would go back again, for lunch or dinner. A suggestion to Polo's though, if you are going to seat people in the area near the front door, put up a nice screen or something decorative to block the wind. My meal was great, but the cold air was not!
And if you have four tops available, please don't subject your customers to the tiny two top inches away from the two top next to you. Luckily no one was dining next to us or I would have felt like I should have been paying their bill!

Best dining experience in a while!

by 1234chris

Best overall dining experience i have had in a while! The atmosphere is inspiring, with perfect lighting, sleek yet sutle decor, and just the right level of live piano music in the background. The Food was out of this world. So full of flavors and different textures. This place is not all presentation...The flavor and substance make the dish, not only the look. The wine list is top notch, and the manager did a great job properly pairing our dinner throughout each course. Service at our table was on point as well. There when we needed, and away when not wanted. I also appreciate it when multiple servers attend my table throughout the dinner. Keep Up The Great Work Polos Signature!!!

Terrible Service!

In a nutshell--the worst waitstaff, worst host, and worst customer service I have ever experienced.
I have never been more infuriated by the restaurant's demeanor.
The manager was not helpful at all.
The food was good.
The drinks were decent.
I will not pay that amount for good food and terrible service.

Pros: Good menu. Good drinks.

Cons: Horrible customer service. Untrained waitstaff.

One of the top 5 restaurants in Houston

by OGBNYC

While I was initially skeptical of this restuarant due to the strip mall location, my fears were completely erased by the time my first dish arrived. Simply put, Polo is a fantastic restaurant that combines top notch food and service. With respect to the cuisine, I thoroughly enjoyed the chef's tasting menu.....each dish was of the highest quality and exquisitely presented. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and never missed a beat. I would unequivocally rate Polo as one of the top 5 restaurants in Houston......I wish them all the best.

Wine Dinner

by kjdn

Polo's Signature had it's first wine dinner last night and it was great. Chef Adam Puskorius created a menu that paired perfectly with the wine. The menu for the evening was cooked perfectly and the service was excellent. The 5 course dinner was served in the Wine Room and included Crab and Crawfish Stuffed Squash Blossom served with a Sauvignon Blac. We were also served Pancetta Crusted Quail served with a Pinot Noir, House Made Corn Agnollotti (I was told this item is on the regualer menu too. I will be going back for more of this.) served with a Chardonnay, Braised Ossobuco served with a Cabernet Sauvignon and Marscapone Maple Cheesecake served with a Tawny Port. Polo's will have another Wine Dinner in July. I can't wait to try Chef Adam's next wine dinner menu.

Pros: Great Service

Great food, Okay atmosphere

by Yummydelicious

This was really nice, the food was good, but there wasn't much to choose from on the menu. The Filet Mignon with Anna Potatoes was amazing! Also, the chocolate molten cake and apple cinnamon tart were delicious! The service was great too. I didn't like the atmosphere, everything was black and white, except for these lights that changed colors. We requested songs to the piano player, but he couldn't play much. Great restaraunt overall.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Strange atmosphere

Service couldn't be better. The food...what can I say. The new chef, Adam Puskorius, is an up and coming star in the restaurant business. My companions even called their husbands, who are visiting New England, to tell them that they won't find lobster as good as this chefs. And the stuffed quail...all I can say is "Thanks Polo Signature for a great experience" Ask to meet Adam when you visit!! He's a delite.

The high-energy packed dining room is so NY.

by sbergner

Polo and Jon Paul, what a great team!!!! Polo's unique and delicious gastronomic creations have made him the stellar chef and entrepreneur he is today. Try the too-die-for mushroom soup. Jon Paul's keen eye for detail reminds me of the late Camille who ran a tight ship at the old Maxim's. The champagne is perfectly chilled, the waitstaff attentive, and the ambience is the best. The high-energy packed dining room is so NY. I love that Shay, the piano player from the old Tony's is playing there, and thanks to the lighting that gradually changes colors in the main dining area you will always look fabulous...unless of course you are not properly dressed and then I hope you are gracious enough to eat in the bar. Don't miss out on this fabulous tour de force.

Best Service and convenient location

by montrosefood

I have dined at Polo's several times now since its been under the new management of Jon Paul (previously at Sabor/1308 and Tony's for 16 years) and have had a very good experience. Parking is easy and you don't have to use valet, but its available. I suggest making a reservation if you want to dine on a Friday or Saturday, but otherwise one isn't necessary. ((((Also, just a note, it is not open on Sundays for brunch despite what this website says)))

The bar is beautiful with leather seating and small tables and a flat screen tv, but the restaurant is even more beautiful with white tablecloths and comfortable chairs, great service, and live piano at night. The menu has a lot of selection and the daily specials are always very good. The special on appetizers are actually $1.95 during happy hour which isn't bad at all if you want to snack before grabbing the table.

Expect to spend a few hours at your table though, since it is fine dining its normal to go through 3 courses at lunch and 4 courses at dinner. (the lunch menu is definately the best in town) And the bar is nice to sit and have a few more drinks after dinner.

Pros: everything

Cons: closed sat morning and sundays

Service has a long way to go

by buckshot111

We were really looking forward to trying Polo's. We had a 7:30 reservation and was finally seated at 8:00. This was the beginning of a long evening. After sitting for 15 minutes we asked for our waiter and got an attitude. Finally ordered a wedge salad and entree, salad was wilted and looked sad. Got the salad about 9:00 and finally gave up on the rest of the meal about 9:40. We have dined several times in Napa, New York City, and Houston in the last couple of weeks and this was the worst service we have experienced in a long time. We really thought the staff was testing us to see how long it would be before we gave up, they won, two hours and ten minutes before we left.

Pros: Nice decor

Cons: Poor service

Best Happy Hour in Town?

by robmardock

I admit I am a yuppie without a lot of money. (I'm a grad student). I search for great happy hours. I see a sign that Polo's has "The Best Happy Hour in Town!" So, my wife and I check it out. Unfortunately, Polo's happy hour is almost non-existent. We sat down hoping to get a happy hour menu, but we get the generic dinner menu. We ask the server what happy hour specials they have, and she sort of chuckles, as if to say, "why are you wasting your time getting happy hour drinks. Can't you see this is a fine-dining establishment?" She looked like she wanted to say this, but graciously, she simply slurred, "oh, $1 off some of our wells and beers." By the time we finished ordering 1 generic vodka martini, 1 cosmo, and 1 full-priced appetizer, our total came to nearly $30. To be fair, if you're going to Polo's for dinner, it looks like a great place... fabulous (even though it's in a strip-mall). The service was great, real cloth table-cloths, and the "full-price appetizer" (crab cakes) were excellent. Very small, but excellent. If you want a great happy hour, you can't beat McCormick & Schmicks.

Pros: good food, fusion mix of "strip mall" meets "uppity / yuppie restaurant."

Cons: bad happy hour
