The playing field, in the morning, was usually filthy in the Fall, Winter, and Spring months, strewn with drink bottles, plastic bags, and assorted garbage from previous day's (or weeks!) activities. This seemed to drastically improve

coach was inappropriate and a bad sport. Overall, not really what I want for my kids, or any kids. I mean really, name calling, bullying, from the coach. I don't think so.
I can't imagine why they would keep this guy.

I just watched a kids flag football game at Asphalt green and the AG coach was just awful. He was dishonest, disrespectul and called the kids rude names. He told them to do whatever it takes to win. This man should not be working with kids. What a terrible role model.

I am furious with Asphalt Green. Having said that, I do like their pool and gym.

I have just returned from one of the two 'public' parks at Asphalt Green with my son, who was hitting a baseball off a T (into a net). I was told by the security people that he was not to hit there because the sound of the baseball frightens people. Yet, there are two batting cages for hire in this park that are off limits to all in the 'public park' unless you rent them. Because the nets are for hire, he was not hitting inside the cage, but against the netting so that he could contain the ball and that he would utilize the least amount of space possible. Does the sound of a baseball hitting a bat within the confines of the 'pay to play' batting cage somehow sound better on the ears than a 'public' sound of a ball against a bat?

Here is what I would like to know: what am I missing about the definition of the word 'public'?

Is this 'no pay, no play' policy the stated policy of Asphalt Green or the misguided interpretations of the security staff?

I was 27-28 years old when I joined Asphalt Green and learned to swim. I joined because I read that their private swim lessons were really good, and that they had the best pool in NYC. I took lessons for about 9 months and now love swimming, even in the ocean. I spoke with another member in her 40's who was learning to swim at AG, and she said she's hooked too. I see her there doing laps every night, even though she just started taking lessons. The pool is Olympic size but they change the configuration throughout the day, which I love. I also joined the fitness center, which is probably my favorite gym of all the ones I've ever been to. I really appreciate that it's never crowded or smelly. This fact makes me feel really comfortable there. I think it's actually less expensive than Equinox, from what I've heard about the Equinox rates. I work close to AG, but live far away. I would honestly move closer to the gym if I could.

Pros: beautiful pool, spacious, clean, comfortable

Cons: pricey, far from home

.

Fabulous pool. Best in NYC. A bit over-priced, particularly since it is a non-profit. I keep coming back, though!

Free weights and Nautilus are practically passe--but available--at this gym, which has both FitLinxx (a simulated trainer attached to the exercise machines) and a handicapped-accessible universal fitness station. With four basketball courts (three outdoors), an astroturfed athletic field (baseball, softball, lacrosse, etc.), a running track (accessible to the public) and even a little theater where puppet shows are regularly performed, this place dwarfs other health clubs in terms of physical magnitude, class options and community outreach.

Asphalt green has a fair amount of space to help you make the most of your workout; I would say they have altogether around six acres of workout space. They also have a great fitness center where you can find literally anything to enhance your fitness experience from cardio machines to aqua aerobics.

Asphalt Green Aquacenter is part of a larger athlectic complez. They have everything from programs for kids just learning how to swim to seniors swimming. A little expensive for a non profit but a fun place to swim and a nice facility.

This is one fantastic place. The staff is friendly, the pool is amazing, the fitness center has awesome classes. It's such a gem on the Upper East Side.

Great gym, people serious about getting healthier, not cheesy guys hitting on every girl in there, not total psycho beefcakes... great classes, phenom pool, very clean, never over crowded. maybe a bit pricier than nysc and equinox, but well worth it and still less than the really big ticket places like reebok and crunch

The facility has a lot of variety of equipment. Able to hadle elite athletes to novice users,People with Disabilities. Rehab. etc. Great freeweight equipment for Powerlifting and Olympic lifting. Fitlinxx System (computer integrated sensors on lifting machines) monitors your workout and gives you constant feedback on your range of motion, speed etc, and keeps track of weight lifted, sets and reps, also tracks cardio workouts.

Asphalt Green Fitness Center is really user friendly. The cardio pieces look out over the east river/triborough bridge, the weight machines are hooked up to Fitlinxx system that keeps track of your workouts. They have all different kinds of machines that hit all the various muscle groups in different ways. The free weight area is set up with equipment like a major college, pro-team, olympic training center. They even have all this special equipment for stretching and relaxation. Staff is with it and quite helpfull, most of them really know their stuff. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. The place is very clean and the equipment is well kept. Add the really great pool, full size astro-turf field with indoor and outdoor jogging tracks, the basketball gym, and I think you have found an "Athletic Paradise"
