Ratings_icons Absolutely Great Service

I had a brain-teaser of a problem. Morris researched the problem, found the solution, help me solve it myself, and was as nice as can be about it. His shop is brimming with solved problems and is run very professionally. I have never been as pleased with an interaction with a repair shop as with George Meyer.

Pros: Most helpful TV repair shop ever

I wanted to take a moment to thank the staff at George Meyer Audio and Video Services. We recently had an issue with our Sony television which was vital to an up coming event. The team understood the urgency of our situation and went out of their way to make sure our television was repaired quickly and expertly. There customer service group was courteous, understanding and willing to work with us to help us in our time of need. It is rare to find a group of people that stand by their word and their promises as the team at George Meyer. I thank you all for the help wonderful experience that went above and beyond what one would expect in today's day and age.

Pros: Easy to work with, Knowledgeable, Courteous, Prompt

Cons: None

after a rough start dealing with the female associate at george meyer, the owner/manager Morris actually phoned me personally and told me that my TV was fixed!!! I had sent him an email saying i was concerned with all the negative stuff i had read about his business and was beginning to feel that I may be given the run around as well. i can understand when we have to wait for parts, and when there is a lack of technicians to come onsite... my pet peeve is poor customer service over the phone.

Pros: owner is sincere

Cons: sales staff need more training

Ratings_icons My Televisions Holiday Savior!

Kahn

It's Wednesday the day before Thanksgiving. My 50" Samsung DLP TV goes out and it's making strange noises. Oh no! That means no football games and no Macy's Day Parade for my wife. Nadda, Zip, Zilch. After making a few frantic calls I was referred to George Meyers by Magnolia Home Theatre. I stopped in around 10am and spoke with Morris (quite a joker!) about my TV problem. He really seemed to care and worked with me to assess my options on what I should do. So I decided to fix the television. Man, I was in luck! Not only did they have the original Samsung DLP light bulb I needed, but Morris also correctly diagnosed the noise problem that I needed a new color wheel as well. So after our conversation I went home and Morris sent a repair team out to my apartment by 2pm the same day with all the necessary parts. By 2:30 I was up and running and the TV has never looked better. Big thanks to Morris and his crew for coming through on such short notice and saving my holiday weekend! You guys rock!

Pros: Fast Service, Courteous Staff, Knowledgable

Cons: Small Store, Bit Unorganized

Best place I have gone to yet. If you want someone who knows and cares about Stereo and TV equipment this is the place to go. I have been a professional audio engineer and audiophile for 30 years. Music is my canvass, and when my equipment fails there is no place in town like- George Meyer TV & Stereo- for knowledgeable and fast repair. The owner, an audiophile himself, will even come out to your car and help carry in your equipment. Parking is a breeze in the large 15 minute zone directly in front of the shop. When the repairs are done you are escorted to the technician?s desk where your equipment is demonstrated .Who, these days, has the class to do that?
While I was in the shop I heard the staff following up on a day late parts delivery. These people take you and your Stereo/TV seriously.

George Meyer TV was sent to handle a repair covered by my Circuit City warranty. I dealt with Morris and Lola and had nothing by problems. Basically I got the run around for 3 weeks. There was a part one day and there wasn't a part another day. They told me to wait for a tech to come out because they wanted to order a part then a week later when the tech came out, I was told the part didn't exist and all he did was hook up a blu ray player to my tv and left.

What really disappointed me was that they didn't really care if their service stunk. Where I work, the only real asset our company has is our reputation and the level of 'care' show our customers. I don't why it's absent at George Meyer TV. The reason I had purchased an extended warranty was because I cared about my tv so I don't get why George Meyer TV takes this kind of business on if they obviously hate doing it well.

After having to call them repeatedly and getting a different story from Morris then from Lola and then about someone named Rene who had to come out (each of them being out sick repeatedly), I called Circuit City Warranty and updated them on what was going on. Save yourself the hassle as I will in the future.

I still don't have a fixed tv or the part or a day when they estimate it will be taken care of. I'd heard good things about GMtv as far as installing and servicing very high end gear but to be honest why would the service be so terrible with warranty repairs and great with the other. It's the same crew doing the work. Sad it came to this and took 3 weeks of my time without anything to show for it.

Pros: They answer their phones

Cons: Runaround, different story from everyone working there, tons

Ratings_icons Great Service...

I should first mention, I am Very-Picky! I own several pieces of high-end McIntosh audio equipment. 5 of those pieces were in need of being serviced and/or repaired to various degrees. I obtained a list of "Authorized" McIntosh Service providers via the McIntosh website. After calling several of those listed, George Meyer was the 1 and only service provider that responded immediately...and with very detailed information & competitive pricing...4 of those pieces have been serviced/repaired by George Meyer on time & at the exact price quoted me...I just took the 5th piece in & have no doubt the results will be the same... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GEOGE MEYER... Oh and did I mention they are located 45 miles from my home! but certainly worth the drive... I pass a number of other McIntosh "Authorized" Service providers on my way to George Meyers, and will continue to do so!

Pros: Very Responsive & Honest

Cons: NONE!

Ratings_icons Geo Meyer Is The Best

rstaab

I've used George Meyer twice for service on my Fujitsu plasma TV and each time they've been great. Responsive, friendly, and very good at what they do.

Most recently removed a piece of dust the size of a fly (really!) from the inside of the screen. Geo Meyer picked up the set and delivered it back, clean and clear, in less than 24 hours. And stayed while I checked every component, answered all of my questions.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Geo Meyer TV to anyone who needs repair work. Excellent job.

Pros: Great service, friendly people

Ratings_icons Exceptional Service

Nothing but the highest of praise for George Meyer- was concerned after reading some reviews and not being from the Santa Monica area, but when I had a Sony HDTV just 6 months out of warranty lose picture Sony no longer had replacement components, Morris Polanski of George Meyer and his team not only provided excellent service, but advocacy with Sony and provided me with essential information to understand my options. Even when it came to initially diagnosing the issue, Morris and his team- young though some may look, were patient, knowledgeable, provided me with realistic expectations in terms of price, timing, etc. for similar issues. Ultimately, Morris was critical and bottom line, Sony replaced the unit FREE with an entirely new set because they could no longer had parts for the model. Morris really stepped up and had Sony not done right by me in what they proposed, George Meyer would do its best to see what it could do. They understand the importance of long-term customer relationships, not just trying to make the most on a single transaction. I cannot speak for the other reviewers and I have zero affiliation with GM, Morris or anyone there- moved out from NYC 2+ years ago. Just an incredibly satisfied customer who appreciates one of the few companies that still seems to value the customer relationship. I cannot say the same for expensive BMW convertible where I feel like I am being hustled and treated as if I bought leftover sale item at a discount retailer. They earned my business and I couldn't be happier.

Stuart (Executive at a Fortune 500 Company)

Pros: Morris Polanski - ask for him

Ratings_icons I was worried but they did a fine job

My Toshiba flat panel TV died after 9 months. After talking to Toshiba (via Costco) I was referred to George Meyer as "a local repair shop." I was given another number to a firm in Culver CIty I couldn't locate any information about. After reading all the 1-star reviews (worst. repair. shop. ever.) I was quite scared, and considered calling back Toshiba to see if there was another place I could go.

But, I figured, I wasn't paying out of pocket, and I'd give them a week. Turns out I needed a few more days (they ordered parts on a Tuesday, called back the next Monday, then again on Wednesday to let me know the visit was on Thursday. Not exactly good with the phone, and I can understand why some don't like it. But, they came exactly when they said they would, fixed the TV using the part they had pre-ordered, and did a fine job. I think it's because it was warranty service, honestly -- they came across a bit flaky with scheduling but otherwise, fine work.

Pros: Performed warranty repair on my Toshiba television

Cons: Took 10 days from call to service visit

I was hesitant to use them because of the bad reviews on line but my TV was under warranty and I had no choice. Fortunately, the whole staff was attentive, explaining just what they were up against with Panasonic and promising to keep in touch as they were given info which is exactly what they did. They even gave me a comparable loaner TV to use while mine was in the shop. It all worked out just fine and I would highly recommend using George Meyer. It is important to understand that sometimes their hands are tied by the powers that be and they can only do so much. Ask for Morris. He was great!

Ratings_icons Sunday TV Service, imagine that!

FrankR818

I sometimes work as much as 60 hours a week, so it's tough for me to take off on weekdays to take care of other things in my life. My Sharp big screen TV went out on Wednesday night, so I called Sharp the next day and they put everything in motion for George Meyer to handle the warranty repair. A woman from George Meyer called to set the in-home appointment, said they'd have the needed parts on Friday and they could repair it on Sunday or Monday. I had to watch Game 6 against Houston at a friend's house, and wanted to host Game 7, so of course I opted for Sunday. Sure enough, George Meyer's techs repaired the TV Sunday morning, and later on my boys and I were able to enjoy the Lakers' glorious victory over the Rockets! Thanks George Meyer, you guys are life savers!

Pros: Quick, professional, open weekends

Ratings_icons A Borderline Scam

DeLion

I NEVER have written a negative review about any business, person, or entity. I simply don't care enough to - until I came across George Meyer TV & Stereo. I feel obligated to report this because I wouldn't want anybody else to deal with what I have ( and still am) trying to resolve. Shoot me an email and I can give you a list of all the negatives I've experienced with George Meyer and owner, Morris Polinski. In short, this business is bordering on a scam (again, email me and i can give you more details). Morris Polinski should come out of hiding, stop telling lies, and face his customers.

Russells

I read some of the horrible stuff on the net about this business and it does not give the company or its workers any justice. Don't believe the negative hype. They gave me the best service and even showed me how to work the receiver that geek squad told me was broken. These are hard working people that try to give every customer the best service and high quality workmanship on every piece to equipment they service. Remember there is always going to be a few bad apples out there and you can not please every one. so screw the bad apples because these are people who want bad service and a inferior product. Remember Mama Always said You get what you pay for.

Ratings_icons Peace of mind for high-end AV enthusiasts needing repairs!

After receiving unsatisfactory service on my vintage McIntosh amp at a different repair shop, I resolved that from then on only qualified technicians would handle my baby. I turned to the manufacturer who then highly recommended George Meyer TV & Stereo, so I brought the amp there. It?s a very busy shop. I was amazed by all the incoming and outgoing packages that were stacked up near the door, and the phone continually ringing?apparently they have several phone lines. Within the first few minutes of talking with the owner, Morris, and his McIntosh technician, Joe, their knowledge, expertise and understanding gave me a comfortable feeling. They were both kind enough to take the time to listen to my concerns and answer my questions. They said up front that due to the repairs ahead of me it would be 10-14 days before the unit would be evaluated, which I was okay with, and the minimum fee to check it out was $60, which was also okay since they said that would count toward the total repair cost. Overall, the most important thing in my mind was the quality of work. The expense and even the repair time were secondary. A few weeks later I am very pleased with the spectacular results. They not only corrected the deficiencies in the repair attempted by the previous shop, but they also professionally calibrated the amp like new and it sounds like a brand new amp. I would recommend to any serious audiophile they should only trust George Meyer TV & Stereo for repairs to their precious, high-end equipment.

Pros: The technical work is top notch. Staff is polite and kind.

Ratings_icons If you want to pay too much to repair your Bose, this is the place to go.

MarkRL

Recently took a Bose media center and Acoustimass module in to see why there wasn't sound. The media center displayed an 801 error code - bad hard drive. Two weeks and $60 later, finally got a call that it would cost $400 to repair. Media center had a bad hard drive (duh) and Acoustimass module needed new power supply. When questioned about the Accoustimass module, the answer was that he heard a hum...replacing the power supply was optional. I had a bad feeling when I dropped the equipment off...the owner gave me relationship advice when I got upset about my spouse nicking the Acoustimass getting it out of the car. Also the woman completing the repair request had a lot of difficulty completing a rather simple form. Something about the place seemed off. We talked about leaving...wish we had. Thankfully we decided to pick up the equipment and call Bose repair at 800-367-4008 instead. The person I spoke with was helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. In minutes my repair request was set up and the shipping docs sent to me by email. Best of all, Bose charges a flat $165 repair fee AND you get an automatic extended 1-year warranty on your system. Call Bose...you'll be much happier!

Pros: None

Cons: Wish I had read the reviews on this place!

This is such an excellent and well run establishment. It would be foolish to go anywhere else for your needs. I came in their with an absolutely busted, cheap stereo that had certainly past its prime, and they were willing to sell me a brilliant cherry Marantz for such a bargain. This is some of the best customer service I have ever seen. It is truly a great group of people.

My beloved Marantz $2100.00 DVD player broke. These guys felt so bad for me that I had to drive 88 miles round trip to them, that they went and checked inventory to see if the correct replacement drive system was in stock...when it was (hurray) they insisted on doing it on the spot, to save me leaving it, and having to do 88 miles again, next week! The repair took 35 minutes and the machine is perfect! They were courteous, fun, freindly and totally efficient! I was 1000% impressed and would recomend them to my best freinds!

Ratings_icons Something Skeevy Comes This Way

eurecurry

I have NEVER experienced such poor customer service in my life. Being put on hold indefinitely, NEVER being called back, NEVER a straight answer as to the status of the item, no one EVER knowing what is going on. People being "in meetings" for the entire day as an excuse not to get back to you...
And to top it all off, after 7 WEEKS to get the television fixed, I get back a television that still does not (and is even worse off than before) and get this: THE PARTS WE WAITED WEEKS FOR TO ORDER WERE NEVER ACTUALLY USED IN THE UNIT THEY GAVE BACK TO ME! If this doesn't stink like a scam, I don't know what does. They'll sound all apologetic on the phone--if you're lucky enough to catch them--but bottom-line is, they aren't really phased by the fact they are so unorganized they don't know who did what--or better yet--DIDN'T do anything! Had I known how skeevy and a waste of time this whole fiasco would be, I would have taken my TV elsewhere!

Cons: Unresponsive, disorganized, scamming

Ratings_icons Excellent warranty repair experience - Marantz Universal Player

crhodes8988

Just before the holidays my Marantz DV9600 stopped playing CDs. I was dismayed to find that the closest service center was in Los Angeles as I live in south Orange County. I called George Myer's and was greeted with a pleasant voice that truly seemed interested in my problem. I took the unit up and dropped it off early on a Friday morning. I was impressed with the huge amount of equipment on the service racks and the large shipment of new things to repair. As I left I kept thinking it would take forever to get my unit back. To my surprise I was called a little over a week later to hear that the unit need a new read mechanism which had been ordred and was expected in the next day or two. Next day I got a call saying the part had arrived and my unit was ready to go. I drove up and once again was greeted by nice people. I expressed how impressed I was at the rapid turn around. I got a tour of the facilities and even got to speak the the gentleman that had repaired my unit. He took to the time to show me what had been done and answered all my questions. Impressive customer service for a shop that does over 800 repairs a month. While I hope for no more problems, I would feel very comfortable taking my gear in for service. All in all a great experience.

Gave them a projector to clean. They said it would take ten days. I called many times over the following months, everytime they say they will call back but never did. After four months (!!!) they tell me they sent it to the manufacturer and it would cost $900. This turned out to be lies, they never sent it (I called the manufacturer) and there was nothing wrong with it. I went to pick up the projector, they had not touched it. Took it home cleaned it myself and it worked fine. Their attitude throughout was arrogant and misleading. Avoid them!

PS They did return the deposit but it was total waste of time.

I was first referred to George Meyer by Denon corporate when my Denon 2910 dvd player stopped working late August of this year. After paying beacoup dollars for this player - needless to say I was quite upset. Then, I went to George Meyer in Santa Monica. These guys really knew their stuff. Not only did they diagnose the problem immediately, but they also fixed it in a timely fashion (within 2 days as I recall). I found them to be honest, efficient and extremely fair. They constantly kept me in the loop as to what was going on with my DVD player and how the problem would be resolved. Unfortunately, in early November, my older by a hair Denon 2900 DVD player decided to go bust. This one had a "Good Guys" GE extended Warranty and they too referred me to George Meyer being that it was the only place they trusted with Denon repairs. Back again to George Meyer where they took care of me once again. Despite the GE Warranty company being really hard to communicate with, Morris at George Meyer kept in constant contact with both myself and the warranty company and really took good care of me. His associate Joe kept me posted as to the exact problems with my player and how it needed to be repaired. It is rare to find a customer friendly, honest, and competent electronics repair shop. I really felt that George Meyer tries to give their customers the best deal they possibly can. More importantly, they are HONEST and have INTEGRITY, two traits which are hard found in this arena. Compared with the majority of sharks out their, I would take my electronics back to George Meyer for repair any day of the week! Thank you everyone at George Meyer, especially Morris and Joe!!!

Pros: honesty, integrity, customer service, expertise

After four years of flawless performance my Pioneer Elite plasma TV suddenly developed a distorted picture. Since I paid several thousand dollars for it, I was bummed, especially since the factory warranty had run out. After Pioneer Support walked me through some possible quick-fixes over the phone, they referred me to George Meyer TV. Their technicians took my TV to their shop, delivered it back to my place within a week, and it looks and works as good as new. Great job, everyone at George Meyer TV! I wouldn?t go anywhere else for video service.

Pros: Quick and responsive ? done within a week, including a few days waiting for parts from Pioneer. Reasonable repair costs.

This is a continuation of the previous post...

When he got on the phone, he told me that my unit was ready for pick-up. He then tried to tell me that I owed another $40 for parts and repair. When I complained about the fact that when I brought the unit in a full TWO months prior and chastised him for never returning my calls, he told me to just come pick up the receiver without any further charge. I picked up the unit, brought it back to my apartment and hooked it up. After all of the hassle over the previous two months, the receiver STILL DID NOT WORK. Since then, as I expected, the company has ignored all phone calls and emails. Do not trust these people. Their customer service is awful. All they want to do is steal your money.

Pros: None

Cons: Don't return phone calls, tried to charge extra money when no repair work had even been done, lied about time it would take to fix unit

I have a Fujitsu Plasma TV. It cost over $9000. dollars. I started to have picture problems, and I called a few places to see about repairs. The cheapest anyone would touch it was $500. Then I called George Meyer. They made a service call to my home, determined the issue, which also had to do with my Cable, and I only paid for the service call--saving hundreds of dollars. They have made me a customer for life! By the way, the guy also looked at my daughter's CD player and fixed a loose connection--no charge!!!

Ratings_icons Horrible, expensive service. Wished I read other reviews before.

paperfold

Stupid me. I should've read other people's review and stayed away from here. Horrible service. They sent "technicians" to check my 4 months old high end plasma TV which stopped working. They were just h.s. kids picking the TV up and returned it to the shop. That's $200. After close to 2 weeks of ME calling them most of the time, they finally called back to say it's fixed. Parts cost me $400 + 150 labor. That's addition to $200. Did I have a chance to approve the parts order? No. Many phone calls with no return calls, and different answers every time I called them. Once when I called, they said they were working on it. Two days later, the same people said they haven't started to work on it. Different answers when I got through to these people. When I asked for the old part to verify, they said they had to send it back to the manufacturer. They even said they have 1 year warranty on their work -- but the paper only says 30 day labor and 90 day parts. TV came back little scratched. Don't go here to fix TV. Avoid it and you'd be thankful.

Pros: They have an answering machine. They send h.s. "technicians" in 48 hours.

Cons: High price. Lousy service, borderline lies. Slow.

I own two Yamaha amps. Why? Because Morris to me too. That's right. After stumbling over JVC's, Onkyo's, Genesis and others, I finally broke down and asked the repair place of all creation, what the heck should I get that will always sound good and that you'll always be able to fix. Yamaha, he told me with a New York smile.

So, the combo is in place for me, Yamaha and George Meyer, but most importantly, Morris.

Thanks, Big M. Your'e the best,

Scott

My 32? Sharp Aquos LCD television went out just a few months after I bought it. Needless to say I was very disappointed. Since the tv was still under warranty I called Sharp, who then referred me to George Meyer TV, a local authorized repair shop. Before I could call George Meyer, a woman in their office named Lola called me to set up an appointment for two days later. Apparently Sharp had transmitted all of my relevant info to them. I?m not someone who likes being given a ?time window,? whether it?s for cable tv install/repair, furniture delivery, equipment repair, etc., but I suppose it?s unavoidable. At least George Meyer?s technician showed up during the scheduled window, which is more than I can say for recent appointments with the cable tv company and a furniture store. Anyway, the technician didn?t speak English very well, but he was courteous, efficient, and most of all knew exactly what needed to be done to correct the problem with my television. He brought two replacement boards based on what I had told Sharp?s customer service, replaced the boards, and now my HD television once again works as beautifully as the day it was first installed. I would definitely buy Sharp televisions again in the future, not only for the quality of the product but also because excellent local repair shops like George Meyer TV are part of their service/support network. I couldn?t be more pleased with the quick and professional service I received from George Meyer TV, and would recommended this company to everyone.

Beware - these folks will NOT return phone calls and in the event that they ever do actually repair your equipment, check it for damage! We had to send our equipment back more than once due to the fact that the people at George Meyer scratched it, chipped it etc. This place is unbelievably bad. Stay away!

Pros: zero!

Cons: unresponsive, impolite, and not careful with equipment

I'm amazed this place is still in business and so busy. We used them years ago to fix stereo components and EVERY time they took forever. If it's not a straight forward repair that they can get parts for immediately, forget it. You'll never hear from them and you're wasting your time. I would never have gone back except they are the authorized repair place for a Toshiba Regza TV I bought. There was a problem with the picture, they came out and looked at it six months ago. Since then i've called four times and been in the store two. NEVER a follow-up, never a call, nothing. They kept claiming they couldn't get a new mainboard. BS, I called the company and there is no shortage of them. They are absolutely awful and I would never recommend them to anyone for anything.

Pros: if they have the part you might have a chance

Cons: they will never reply to your calls

Ratings_icons The only good thing about my experience is that I didn't have to pay for it.

I recently bought a TV in December. The TV had an issue with the backlight where it would continuously flicker (kind of like a strobe light). GM was the closest authorized service center.

The first annoyance occurred when setting up my initial appointment. The lady on the phone gave me a range of dates to pick from. However, they would not let me set up a specific time during the day and rather they told me that I would have to wait til they called me at 8am the morning of the scheduled service to tell me my appointment time.

What further upset me was that the morning of my appointment day, all they could tell me was that they would be stopping by in some 4 hour time range during the middle of the day. The two service technicians that arrived were courteous but didn't really know what was causing the problem nor did they seem particularly knowledgeable about my type of TV. They concluded that they needed to call Samsung and speak with them regarding the issue and that they probably needed to swap out some parts.

For my actual repair appointment I had to go through the same scheduling BS and consequently had to skip another day of work. Thank god my boss is a nice guy. Long story short, the "technician" installed the new parts and the TV would not even operate properly anymore. He claimed that Samsung sent them a faulty part and said they'd have to place another order. Seeing as how the technician BARELY spoke English he had to phone his supervisor to talk to me regarding the situation. In the end I basically told them that I didn't want to wait another 2+ weeks for a part that may or may not fix the TV since I could just return it to the vendor.

WHEN I DID STOP BY TO SEE MY PLASMA AND MORRIS. I WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THE VOLUME OF UNITS BEING REPAIRED.
GOOD JOB !!!! YOU HAVE ME AS A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE

I have to echo the last review as George Meyer being the single worst repair experience I have ever had.

I have a high-end Pioneer plasma 50" commercial display that died. It is under extended warranty, and George Meyer was a recommended repair center by Pioneer for commercial units. I should have read the reviews here first! For weeks I called almost daily to get an update. They were waiting on parts, working on it, will call back. They never called back. Mary also didn't remember me, and sounded like she had never even talked with me each time. Finally, when the unit was to be delivered, I took the day off and waited at home all day. They never showed up. When I called mid-day, they said that the delivery truck had broken down, and my unit was in it.

At the end of the day, I CALLED BACK - they didn't call me - and they said they were not going to deliver it the next day because Pioneer had issued a fix to a logic board in my model that day. OK. So I waited another week, and had to call them to find out the status and schedule delivery.

They delivered it after over a month. It worked. However, as I cleaned up the cables and cleaned the screen, I noticed major scratches, dents and scrapes on the front bezel. I mean, 8" of extremely noticeable damage. I called them immediately. Morris wasn't available. I left him a voicemail - 3 times over 3 days. No one has called back. This was over an $800 repair, and they returned my unit damaged. At this point all I can do is complain to Pioneer, post my experience here and on other websites, and deal with a very ugly screen that I won't be able to ever sell for very much.

Stay away from this company.
