The meals that they have in here is as authentic Italian as it can get. I love the sauces that they have in here, not that very oily and enough to make you day.

I used to really like this place but the last few times I went the food quality was down. I love the atmosphere and it is still more affordable as small plate places go. I hope they can turn it around

I have been craving tapas for many years since I studied abroad in Spain. I never knew where to go until I did a search on Urbanspoon.

I got there right when it opened for dinner and sat at the bar. Everyone was friendly (the greeter, server, etc.). I ordered the same tapa that I ate all the time in Spain--tortilla espaola (warm potato and onion omelette)--and it was fantastic. Nice presentation, reasonably priced, and it tasted great! Everything from the atmosphere to the bread and olive oil took me back to Malaga.

I believe this would be a great spot by yourself or in groups...check it out!

Ate here a year ago in the summer - dined al fresco in beautiful weather and had a great experience. The sangria was crisp and refreshing and we ordered based on the waiter's recommendations. Overall a delicious meal, really fun experience.

Great sangria and really great food. Really good breakfast option as well. I hosted a wedding shower and it was an excellent location for our private party. Staff was attentive and the breakfast/brunch menu and food was excellent.

Excellent tapas and sangria - definitely go! Try the potatoes, the scallops, the lobster (if they still have it) and if you are really hungry, share some paella.

Cafe Ba Ba Reeba is a great restaurant. They make a good paella and other tapas. They have a bloody mary bar. The food is always good and it has a fun atmosphere.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago! The key is to always make reservations through Open Table. The atmosphere is fun & loud and perfect for big groups, such as birthday parties or girls night out. The blue cheese steak and spicy potatoes are a must!

I made a reservation through Open Table for 7:30 pm on May 25. I received 2 emails confirming this reservation for 7:30 pm. When I showed up to the restaurant at 7:25 to check in, the hostess informed me that I did not have a 7:30 reservation and that I was a no show for my 6:30 reservation. I showed her my confirmation email for 7:30 on my blackberry, but she rudely told me to contact Open Table because the restaurant had me in their system for 6:30. I have used Open Table successfully close to 50 times in various cities and I have never had an Open Table reservation disregarded in this manner. I am extremely dissatisfied with how the hostess treated me. With thousands of other restaurants in Chicago, I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I've been dying to find a great spanish tapas bar in town. And although Babareeba is not your "authentic" spanish tapas, it takes what is great about spanish flavors and gives it a nice twist. Tried the "toro brochetas" which are basically a skewer to great tender meat with a plate of potatoes, caramelized onions and a stewed tomato - had the pork and it was very flavorful. Had the scallops, pine nuts, couscous and that was very delicious - strong garlic flavor, well seasoned. The mushroom empanada was small, but worth every bite, esp the porcini alioli on the side. Lastly the mini desserts were perfect sized, nothing profound, but was a nice sweet end to a great tasty meal. I'd rather have a tasty twist to classic tapas than have not so great authentic tapas. Make reservations!

I went for the Paella. Traditional paella has a crispy, caramelized, toasted bottom (called socarrat in Valencian) that is considered a delicacy. To achieve a socarrat, one either needs to time the evaporation of the water properly with the completion of the rice being cooked or turn up the heat to high and listen to the bottom of the rice toast. Once the aroma of toasted rice comes from the pan, but before the rice burns, the heat is removed once again. The paella is ready to be served after having cooled for several minutes.

The paella they served me was not crispy, and it was loaded with grease rather than broth and had way to much salt and not much meat or seafood at all. It was more like and overpriced rice pilaf. I was very dissapointed. I know they are well known for the tapas and the $3 tapas bar but if you are looking for an authentic paella, this is not the place to spend $60.00 for it. It taste like grease and salt.

I cannot give enough praise to this place. They have some of the best tapas I've ever had and I love the ambiance of the place. Every waiter/waitress I've had has been nice, polite, and fun. I've never sat waiting for a refill (unless I was sitting in the bar area) and I've never had to send back a plate.

I highly recommend the bacon-wrapped dates, which are set in a apple vingrette, the Baked Goat Cheese in Marinara Sauce, and the Chicken/Chorizo sausage skewers. All three are simple divine.

My only complaint is that sometimes they turn the music up too loud some nights so I can't even hear my boyfriend.

Finally made it here, after hearing a lot about it. Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! is a fun place, but I have to say I was a little disappointed. The scallop tapas with couscous, pine nuts, and raisins were quite good, with very tender scallops, but the other three tapas we got were nothing exciting -- pretty standard, safe tapas fare. My paella mixta was very salty and too thick, but the fish and shrimp in the paella were tasty. And Ba-Ba-Reeba's sangria, supposedly what they are known for according to our server, was nothing out of the ordinary -- not much to differentiate it from sangria elsewhere.

Outdoor seating is a plus and the neighborhood is great, but the overall atmosphere and decor makes the restaurant feel like a chain, like Outback for tapas.

I'd go again, but definitely with tempered expectations and enthusiasm. I kind of wish I made it here during the Nineties.

I have been eating at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba for many years when in town on business. Four years ago I took my wife when we in town to watch our son play football. It is now a family favorite where we eat on our frequent trips to Chicago. The only downside is that they drop some of our favorite dishes during menu updates. We have NEVER been disappointed with an dish or any Sangria. Our favorite Sangria is the traditonal Red but the Black berry is good too. All of the Tapas are great. Always fun.

Went here for my birthday 'coz I've heard good things from other people and I definitely recommend this place. I'm always excited to try new tapas place because I loved tapas when I was in Granada, Spain (birthplace of tapas). I thought this place was fun-- the decor and the atmosphere. We had the steak with bleu cheese and though I don't normally like bleu cheese I enjoyed this dish. The dates wrapped in bacon was okay, I could have made it at home (try it at Tapas Barcelona, they serve it with some kind of bell pepper sauce). The paella was no good-- I make a much better paella! The potato croquettes were good.
My friends, whose first time it was to try tapas, really liked this place too! I would recommend it, especially for those who have never tried tapas.

VERY Dissappointed. This place is not what it used to be 10 years ago. Menu has been shortened. Tapas not as special. Most were too salty. Mussels were not fresh -- even served us a couple of closed ones (where is quality control?). Sangria is overpriced, and overiced; tastes like coolaid. If you're going to have to wait long anyway, then you might as well go to Cafe Iberico for Tapas -- better value, better choices, better taste.

I was at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba's the Friday before last. I enjoyed the food, the service was good, and the skewered beef was particularly excellent. Nice sangria, as well. The only fault I could find with the place was that it was a bit loud, like any restaurant on a friday night. If you really dislike high noise levels (as I do), stay far away from the bar, but the restaurant noise-level is bearable.

I was very disapointed by the food last saturday night. I had previously had an excellent experience and so on a return trip to Chicago, I returned with high expectations. The service was fabulous and atmosphere was really fun. The food was disappointing. The shrimp was bland and tasted as though they had not put any seasoning on it. The calamari was greasy and not crisp, and the omelette was mediocre. I hope I cought it on a bad night.

I have been frequenting Cafe Babareeba for years, and always have a good time. Friday and Saturday nights are to be avoided. It gets too crazy, and you have to have patience. If you do go on the weekend, you will find that the back bar is the best bet if you don't have a reservation. I rarely have to wait there, and you can order food at the bar.

The tapas are excellent, especially the tortilla espanola, meatballs, croquetas and patatas bravas. I have done their paella classes, which are one of the best cooking classes in the city and priced reasonably. You walk out completely full. I went on New Years Day for the pajama brunch and had a blast. Management has always been friendly and knowledgeable (especially after the dinner rush!). It's not the cheapest Spanish restaurant, but it is consistently fun for groups.

We went on a Thursday night and were seated before our reservation time. Tapas, both hot and cold, were very good. The lobster and scallop paella was awesome! Great sangria with fresh fruit and the desserts- which are also small plates, so you can order more (!)- were also very good. Will definately be back!

Although the night started out a bit shaky (they were running almost an hour past our reservation time) once we sat down, we were greeted with exceptional service which remained consistent throughout the rest of the evening. The manager was very cool and ended up treating us with food & drink even before we made any complaints. Tapas are fantastic! We'll definitely go back but maybe next time on a less chaotic night.

I was surprised to see BA BA REEBA under cheap eats. While the individual tapas are priced as single tasting servings -- that's just what they are. You must be careful as the bill adds up fast as you keep ordering tastings. Generally you walk out a little lighter in pocketbook that you might expect when you look at the menu.

with much better choices all over the city, ba-ba-reeba was a major disappointment. food was mediocre and not as hot (or cold) as it should have been. the only saving grace is the outdoor patio and so-so sangria... skip this place and try emilio's or cafe iberico.

I've been here three times. The first time the line was really long so we offered to sit in the bar. It took FOREVER for a waiter to finally come to us and forever for the food. It wasn't too bad but not worth the price. The third time, we sat next to the unseatable table. They have three garbages sitting outside next to this table and it reeked, people kept coming to sit an then asking to be moved. The food took about an hour to get to the table and they kept bringing the tapas in weird order. two of us ordered entrees and one ordered a couple of tapas. The Tapas came one after another quickly and the entrees came an hour later. They couldn't handle it. It really isn't that difficult, that's coming from an ex-waiter.

Wait staff was friendly and very helpful. Food not worth it, luke warm, beef tough, just not very edible. Dishes served in a rush even when asked to serve us slow. They seem to want to get you in and out rush, rush rush! Would not visit this one for a second try too many other Tapas choices here and the other I have tried were much better.

What can you say about any of the Lettuce Entertain You restaurants? The food is always quite reliable, the atmosphere is always interesting, the wine list is always good (in this establishment the list of Sherrys are exemplary), Valet Parking is at the door and it is always crowded. This is another establishment that is open into the wee hours of the morning. I have never had bad service at a Lettuce Entertain you restaurant.

The food was excellent. Service was okay but my only real complaint which compels me to write this is the sangria is awful. Simply awful. Not awful in taste but in value. First of all they fill the pitcher half way and it's like 18 dollars and on top of that it's not strong at all. If you're going to charge 18 dollars than at least fill it 3/4 full.

Go there for the food - not the sangria but unfortuntely, it's part of the experience of tapas.

Excellent service from being seated to getting the check. Two of us ordered 3 tapas, and could not finish it all. Cold veal in vinegrette, chicken in bread, and beef skewered with horseradish. Red sangria was not over sweet, just right. We got seperate entrees; salmon and garlic chicken, and both were exceptional. Very rich in flavor. The mashed potatoes were wonderful. Unfortunately, we could not finish nor take anything with us. Bring your appetite!!

Red sangria was not over sweet, just right. We got seperate entrees; salmon and garlic chicken, and both were exceptional. Very rich in flavor. The mashed potatoes were wonderful. Unfortunately, we could not finish nor take anything with us. Bring your appetite!!

Pros: good portions

Cons: parking

.

Fun colorful atmosphere. Tapas are good, sangria could be better. Great place to go with a group of people.

This is a great place to go with a bunch of friends. There are plenty of choices for tapas and the portions are perfect for sharing. The sangria is good, too.

The food was good, with plenty of choices. You can get tapas or paiella. The sangria kept coming.
However, the service leaves something to be desired. They took no time to tell the first-time tapas eaters what to do, and rushed the diners. They did not tend to listen well at all.

Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba was wonderful. It's got a relaxed, fun atmosphere. It's perfect for groups - especially if you like variety. Order a bunch of tapas and start passing them around. You won't be disappointed. Don't forget to order the Sangria to wash it all down. It's also great for a late night (post-theatre) bite.
