I've been buying from Meyers for several years. They have always given me good sales advice (I just go downstairs and deal with directly with the one person I've always dealt with). They have never been cheap but I like dealing with local businesses. Recently they delivered another refrigerator to my small apt. complex. I paid $700 for the fridge and $100 for "delivery and installation". I had to sign off before they left and that's when I discovered that the handles on the refrigerator were loose. They had fully intended on leaving me with a shoddy installation for $100! Eventually they got it right and left me with a fridge with tight handles but filthy from being in a warehouse for who knows how long. I sent a letter to Meyer explaining that for $100 I expected the service to be professional, complete and perfect. I also requested that they return $50 of the "delivery and install fees" since it was anything but professional, complete or perfect. Considering that I paid Borrman's Steel of East Palo Alto $30 for delivery of $600 worth of steel, Bruce Bauer Lumber of Mountain View nothing for delivery of two $500 loads of building materials and Barron Park Plumbing Supply of Mountain View nothing for delivery of $800 worth of fixtures you would think that Meyer would feel a little ashamed of their behavior.
Nope, not even a phone call or note. And from their records they know I'm a good customer.
I'll never buy from them again. If all I am to them is a cash cow who pays for a product before the order is even placed why do I care to go back. With service like this I might as well go to a box store! That's too bad, I need a couple more appliances for my complex next month and they'll never make another sale from my recommendations the way they have in the past.
