Worst experience ever. They changed their pricing structure as they went, performed and charged for unnecessary services, and tried to extort money under duress.

We had a 9mo old nat gas boiler that stopped working one Fri, and called them for service. The "comfort technician" (a salesman with minor HVAC knowledge) arrived at 4 and diagnosed the reason for the error was the boiler had become so "gunked up and dirty". He said a routine $240 cleaning would fix the error. This really didn't sound right to us as it was a new natural gas boiler, but as it was Friday night before a weekend of temps in the 20s, we felt we had our backs to the wall. Since he guaranteed that a cleaning would repair the problem, and this repair was a fixed price, "no matter how long it takes", we agreed.

Once he was finished, the error was still present. His new diagnosis was that a part must be defective. Itd be covered if we transferred the manufacturer's warranty for another $250, he'd be back in a few days to replace it.

When he came back on Monday, he changed his diagnosis again, and now said the problem was inconsistent gas pressure. He needed to charge more money (in complete contradiction to the "one price" fix that he initially sold us). Their VP later admitted that charging a $240 cleaning was a standard "first step to any repair" before they can even diagnose anything. Really? A) that's a total load of bull and B) that's a complete contradiction to what we were told.

He now tried to charge us an additional $500, and at this point he has our boiler apart and NYSEG on the way, and if we don't pay, he's just going to leave us high and dry. He showed me a rate chart on his Ipad with the $500 "band-aid service" repair. When I said we couldn't afford that, he "made an executive decision", and showed a second rate chart (he conveniently had at the ready), that showed the same service as only an additional $240. At this moment it was clear this was a pre-scripted routine, and he was simply trying to gauge how much more money he could get out of us.

He said the reason he had to charge more was because he would have to "spend hours" and "blow through parts" while helping test. After NYSEG showed up, he spent 15 min with them and left. I asked him about the discrepancy between the "several hours" he was charging for and the short time he was actually there, and he smirked and said "you pay for the expertise". NYSEG replaced the meter and regulator as they were due for replacement anyway. But afterward they noted no difference in gas pressure, and after they left, our boiler was still giving the exact same error. Gas pressure was not the issue. So much for his "expertise".

At this point we told them we were through dealing with them and we wanted our money back. After several wrong diagnoses and over $750 in charges, our boiler was in exactly the same state, still giving the exact same error.

Fortunately, we got our boiler actually fixed the next day, when we hired an HVAC specialist who spent 20 min diagnosing that a misaligned part, and 30 min making adjustments to it. It was a simple fix that was easily diagnosed, and only required competence, honesty, and a pair of pliers.

I hoped that the company would recognize Joshs incompetence and dishonesty and rectify the situation. By phone and mail, I got some money back. They reduced the cleaning fee to $170 (again, multiple rates for the same service). I filed a complaint with the BBB during which the VP ignored the Joshs misconduct, and diagnosed my boiler from his office, saying no part could have been adjusted (apparently he's never used a pair of pliers), and that NYSEG must have fixed the problem (even though the boiler was still giving the same error after they left).

He simply refused to acknowledge the reality of the situation and invented his own story. Deceptive business practices are actively encouraged at Auchinachie.

Never hire this company for anything.

I would never recommend Auchinachie to any of my friend or even my enemies. I have dealt with them for the past 8 yrs. The last two I spent with my furnace blowing cold air. I let it run continuously waiting for Auchinachie to show up

Called them for an emergency service for my heating/cooling system (I wish I did not). Technician's technical and troubleshooting skills need development. The wiring diagram was provided to the technician the moment he walked in, but he ignored it and struggled with wiring until I suggested he used the diagram and actually showed him how the connections should be made. He was not familiar with "X R B/C G W" configuration, although, I am pretty sure, it is a very common connection scheme. The technician has suggested to do absolutely unnecessary rewiring of the system (obviously to charge me more), which I refused to do.

The problem was the 24V transformer. After transformer was replaced, the wireless thermostat couldn't reconnect back to the receiver. Although it was working fine before the repair, Auchinachie wouldn't take any responsibility.

The technician was not clear about the pricing upfront. While taking to him on the phone, he mentioned emergency charge but couldn't give me any ballpark for the repair (they have flat rate prices for different repair types that are known upfront). After the problem was diagnosed and before transformer was installed he gave me verbal estimate of $109 and received my permision to proceed. However, he charged me $212 for the repair on top of the emergency fee. As a result I have paid $390 with tax for a $20 transformer and simple diagnostics. I can't wrap my head around why Auchinachie is still in business with these prices. It was my first and the last call to Auchinachie and I certainly won't deal with them again.

They are always on time, very courteous, and professional. They wear booties whenever they are in our home and, they leave everything very neat and tidy. Even when we had an emergency and our furnace had to be replaced in the middle of winter. They put a new Boiler system in, in one day. We went with a Boiler system so that we'd always have hot water without waiting, like you have to wait for a regular hot water heater to refill and heat up again. Plus it's so much more efficient than the furnace system that we had. We're so glad they recommended the system they did! Our bills have dropped noticeably. We're Auchinachie customers for life!
