Olive or Twist is a fun place to grab a drink downtown. However, the highlight of this place is the calamari. Instead of your standard fried calamari with marinara sauce, Olive or Twist makes theirs with an asian sauce and it is unbelievable...definitely worth the trip.

I had to go to a business social event at Olive or Twist and I was not looking forward to it. I don't hang out downtown very much and after reading some of the reviews about the bartenders I planned on leaving early.\r\n\r\nTo my suprise, the staff was very friendly and made some of the best drinks I have ever tasted.\r\n\r\nWe started the event upstairs in a private lounge area and they had a buffet ready for us. The food was not just good but great! I didn't know if it was just that I was starving or the food was really that good but we all dug in and ate everything as fast as they brought it out.\r\n\r\nI couldn't believe the number of special drinks they make here. The drink menu is huge. We were all ordering different drinks and sharing with eachother. Every drink was better than the next. The bartending staff was great. They were friendly, fun and fast. \r\n\r\nAfter the event, my girlfriends and I went downstairs to the restaurant and ordered some appetizers to share. The server helped us chose what to order and her recommendations were perfect. The calamari is the best. They should bottle the sauce and sell in the store! \r\n\r\nThe only negative thing was the decor or lack of it. \r\n\r\nGreat place, Great product. Great service, Now make it look as good as it is.\r\nI'll definitely be back.

We went in just to sit and get something cold, thinking about hitting one of the other restaurants on the block for the main meal AND WE ENDED UP STAYING FOR HOURS. I loved that they had big salads; I got the Chicken Ceasar salad (fresh/good) but wished I'd ordered my friends' Seared Tuna salad...that sauce was so different. Next time I'm getting the clams, saw a lot of those being ordered (think they're on special). I'll get my Gimlet again; cool and fresh ; low carb never tasted so good (and it's big enough to enjoy a long time). Our server was really nice without being a pest. People were mentioning Brunch...noting that the brunch is worth trekking downtown on a Sunday, so I'll be back. I really liked parking was near so we didn't have to walk a long way late in the dark and there were people around, so we felt safe.

I enjoyed the Riesling but should have ordered my friend's Melon Martini! We shared that Calamari ... really flavorful sauce and light crispy batter, just perfect. \r\n\r\nNoticed others gathering for drinks then dinner, so the locals must use this as a quiet getaway.\r\n\r\nThe beauty is there is PARKING almost next door so you need not hike far to your car... parking after 5 was $5, so much easier than driving around and around looking for street openings.\r\n\r\nI liked the service; she asked if we liked the drinks. I think she would have found me other wine if I really didn't like it. And she made certain we liked our food too. \r\n\r\nThey seem to be making an extra effort to keep all the diners happy... (didnt get that feeling at the big hotel down the street).\r\n\r\nWe liked the candles at all the tables; nice touch.\r\n\r\nNice time. I'll be back next time I'm in town\r\n\r\n

What a fun place... just don't expect to sit for a meal on Friday (or Saturday, am told) at 7pm, because it's busy. Understated decor; I like that they left the exposed brick. We did the short walk over the bridge to PNC Park, so plan to meet after a Pirates game. Also, you can meet friends for shopping... Saks is just over a mile on 6th. My server met me with a friendly smile and checked back appropriately, not overbearing & made the right suggestions. It's a surprising little jewel downtown, so glad we found it.

I just went to Olive or Twist for the first time last night and I can't believe I haven't been there before. First, the upstairs lounge is unlike anywhere in Pittsburgh. It has exposed brick walls (which I love). It's not pretentious and everyone there seemed to be having a great time. I was with a few of my girlfriends and we planned to just meet there for a drink before going out to celebrate my friend's birthday. We stayed for 3 hours! As for the negatives, the staff was ok. They seemed a little disorganized, but they were not rude and we did get our drinks. If they gave a litle better service I'd be giving it 5 stars! As for the food, we only had the calamari appetizer and it was delicious. I wasn't too thrilled about the rest of the menu though, but I'm pretty particular. Anyway, great place and I'll be back soon.

This place doesn't really stand out. The staff is rude, the drinks and only average and most of the patrons are either middle aged or families. Not exactly the most swanky place you could be on a Friday night.

My friends and I recently decided to go here for drinks and desserts on our first day off in a while. It was not as relaxing as we had hoped. The staff was extremely rude and non-attentive. Our drinks were slammed down on the table and the waitress rarely came back to check on us. Each drink was around $10, and tasted like cheap, poorly mixed alcohol. \n\nAt the end of the night, a manager came over told me that one of the staff had heard us talking about fake id's and requested to see mine again- at which point they took it in the back for about 5 minutes before returning it completely bent. Apparently, our conversation about bus passes was overheard, which cast us into suspicion for the entire night. Overall the entire experience was expensive and frustrating. Watch what you say and just stick with the desserts. Nothing else is worth it.

With the exception of one older bartender there, I would not return to this bar because of the snooty ""younger"" (though they aren't that young) bartenders. Lazy and inattentive and they didn't care to do much other than eat, drink and talk among themselves.

I used to love this place (except for being a very smoky restaurant, but smoking ban changed that) - best calamari in Pgh. It's been under new management or chef and hasn't been the same since. The menu changed. They ran out of ahi tuna at 6:30 pm. $13 for a sandwich without even chips (overpriced for the quality) and $11.50 for a martini (not even that great) is too much. Service was mediocre. We've given it two tries recently, but won't be back. There are better places nearby.

Our firm had a couple of parties here this year and this place is wonderful. From the initial set up to the conclusion of the event, the staff was top notch, he really took good care of us. We all agreed that this was the best place so far in Pittsburgh. The martinis are the best in town and the food is really good too. With the new DJs on the weekends, it's our regular friday night stop upstairs with the younger crowd. \r\n Awesome calamari

Cons: wasn't open this past 2 sunday?

This is the only bar I go to downtown. Relaxed atmosphere, great mixed drinks, couches, hot crowd. The upstairs is amazing - exposed brick mixed with a bartender named Ian who makes outstanding martinis.

me and my friends used to go out all the time. and we were getting sick of the same old bars and some of the other neighborhoods so we wnet out downtown. We LOVE this place. They have the coolest upstairs lounge in the city and the hottest bartenders and cocKtail waitresses. (lol) We went to a wrap party there it was the bomb. \r\n\r\nIt's a chill relaxing atmosphere where you dont' get macked on too bad. But always fun too with DJs on some nights. Now we always either start out here or end the night here regardless on the weekends. Highly recommend the Pom martinis and mojitos.

I just moved to pittsburgh recently and stumbled upon this wonderful spot in the downtown area. Everytime we go there, it is always happening but not too crazy. They have a nice sophisticated mixed crowd and it's a great place to chill on the weekends...relaxed comfortable atmosphere, great music. Drinks are in the mid to high range but well worth the price with the stiff pours and quality liquor. Highly recommend for a good party !

I have been going there for several years now, and the bar has gone downhill in a number of ways. The staff changes overnight so to achieve ""Regular"" status is impossible. The daytime bartender, Sam, is really personable and makes everyone laugh. If he is super busy, he is the only one bartender and can come off as curt, if not downright uninterested, but one bartender and 50 ppl i can see where it comes from. He is alot of fun usually knows what someone drinks after the first round, and he keeps them coming. Also, trying to contact anyone in order to book a party is impossible. I called three times in one week and the manager was in a meeting the entire time apparently. Waste of time. Prices change weekly. Drinks a year ago are almost a third more expensive now. Capitalizing on he drink tax much? I love the space, if you can get there during the day Sam is great, as well as Donna at night, but other than that don't waste your time.

Just got charged more than $13 for one glass of beer and one Scotch and soda using a bar brand. Can't imagine what anyone sees in this place. Many other bars in town have nicer furniture, music, lighting, etc. Location is not worth the price. The staff was bitchy bitches. When I asked if the bill was correct, I was told, ""gas now costs more than $3 per gallon."" That might be an appropriate comment if I drank gasoline and not alcohol. I will never, ever go back and I hope the place goes out of business soon. I would say that the only reason it is still there is its location.

iv been goin to the upstairs lounge at olive or twist since last july.Until recently i enjoyed the service.I was a loyal customer because the bartenders upstairs were personable & made the best dirty martinis for my friends and i.I have always recommended OT & held a party for a friend there in which we got amazing service from the 2 girls who usually waited on us and happily overtipped them. The BAD part:latley when i have been going there isnt a familiar face in sight, there are all new employees behind the bar, normally not a prob, except none of these new faces are friendly & they dont know what the hell they're doing!!! as a former bartender myself i can relate to being a bit flustered but this was outta control!Every bartender behind that bar, with the exception of one guy, looked like a chicken with their head cut off.One girl couldnt take more than 2 drinks in an order w/o looking like her head was gunna explode and another smiled nervously & tried to avoid customers(try hiring based on experience not looks alone)...do you want to make money???finally when i got to order my 2 ketel one dirty martinis & 2 blue moons the girl who got them completely screwed up! I was given 2 martinis NOT shaken and i watched her pour the olive brine on top of them! does the management here just hire any idiot?i then waited about 10mins to have her fix them and when she did they werent even worth the new skyrocketed prices i had to pay, also i was given 2 miller lt drafts for my blue moons TWICE until i watched the girl pour the beer from the blue moon tap and i had to tell her the lines were crossed when she insisted they had to be blue moon.We only stayed cause the cocktailwaitress, the only personable one there, pleasantly offered to take care of us.I have met the manager and he is just a schmoozer, no wonder this place has gone downhill. hire competent bartenders if you want to keep this place open & try to filter some straight men in there as well. ~a very disgruntled customer

This is a great place in a great location on 6th Street for pre/post game or Theater or Symphony. The food is excellent. Crab cake sandwich and ahi tuna appetizer are winners and lots of interesting choices on a surprisingly upscale menu. Obvious pros in the kitchen. But on a busy night, if you are not at the bar be prepared to wait a long time for service. The staff is friendly enough, just appears to be no organization in how they handle the table service. If they can solve that problem this place has a menu and location that can't be beat and I'd gladly give it 5 stars.

Just went to Olive and Twist for lunch with 3 colleagues. It was dark as the tables are all the way in the back of the space. The menu was nice and our server was pleasant. Food was very slow in coming out of the kitchen though, but every table was full.

Wow...those are some amazingly harsh words by customers with apparent anger displacement. I found this place to be a treasure and didn't even know there was a second floor.\r\n\r\nAnd if the place is so lousy, I wonder why said customer was beating down the door to get in? \r\n\r\nFinally this city has many options to go out downtown for.

BEWARE! Olive or Twist advertises that they can host private parties but beware of doing that! They're customer service leaves a great deal to be desired. After leaving numerous voice messages and emails for the ""Events"" Manager I had to go to the Manager, Steve, to discuss what type of event I was looking to host there (a reception for 70-80 people). Steve sent me back to the ""Events""Manager, Emily, who needs to take a few course in customer service. She was SLIGHTLY interested in listening to me and my events needs, until I said I needed the private party area on Friday night. I was looking to spend at least $5000 for one evening of food and cocktails but she said the Manager prefers not to book private parties on a Friday, but, she'd get back to me. Well, after ANOTHER 3 calls and 2 emails later...I'm still waiting. When I eventually called Steve back, he too was less than accomodating. He seemed ""bothered"" that I was calling and didn't even offer my other options (say....ANOTHER NIGHT!) I'm glad my husband doesn't run his business as theses two individuals do or we'd be bankrupt. These two would benefit from some lessons in customer service. After being a customer there for a number of years I'll NEVER spend another penny there and I will be sure to let everyone know of the lousy customer service they can expect from Olive or Twist. Maybe I'm better off not having my reception there...from the ""service"" I have received from them I can only expect they would have found some way to ruin my reception.

we had such a great time the last couple times we've been there, and there's this new bar upstairs that is really nice too. In the Pittsburgh area...verrrry attractive crowd and they make their drinks really stiff. Would recommend for anyone looking for a fun time with good music too.

I went to Olive or Twist for the first time for some Steeler pre-game drinks with my husband and another couple, and we had the best time. I stopped in again last night with some friends, and again I had a great time. When you are treated as nicely as I was treated this week, I just had to put in my two cents. The bartender was as nice as could be, and I can't say enough about the appetizers.

I stopped in again last night with some friends, and again I had a great time. When you are treated as nicely as I was treated this week, I just had to put in my two cents. The bartender was as nice as could be, and I can't say enough about the appetizers.

It's easy to see! The good reviews of O or T are so fake and processed, it's a shame. I've been stopping in about 3 to 4 times a month for the past 5 months and believe the poor reviews. I've tried to find what the good reviewers are talking about but the good ones are a little vague and then I realized why!? They're submitted by obvious friends and family or maybe the owners themselves.

Reasonably priced drinks and eats have Pittsburgh's business community talking about this diamond-in-the-downtown rough: They enjoy lunch and come back for seconds at happy hour. The only thing more sparse than the menu…
