In Short
The words meatloaf and bakery play to Chicago's weakness for comfort food at this Lincoln Park takeout spot. Savory dishes take the form of 8-ounce cupcakes or loafies, pastry shells stuffed with beef, ground turkey, lamb, chicken shish kebabs, cheese, seasonings and more. It's not all hearty, though. Health-conscious diners can make feasts out of the Omega-3 loaf, a concoction of Alaskan wild salmon topped with wasabi mashed potatoes or a lentil loaf with brown rice, red peppers and cheese. Sides go sticky--i.e. yukon smashers, pasta and tater tots--or lean--salad and veggies.

Key Points

  • New creations every day
  • Custom orders and catering
  • Take-out or eat-in

The Inside Scoop

  1. The Extras - The bakery serves five options: cupcakes, loaves, tarts, pies and layer cakes. Or try a flight of three bite-size loafies for $5.95 or 12 for $21.95.

Ratings_icons Meatloaf Cupcakes! Great Idea

Bluememaw

My daughter, granddaughter, and I were in Chicago yesterday (October 10). Included in our plans for the day was a visit to The Meatloaf Bakery, located at 2464 N. Clark. If you haven't sampled their wonderful meatloaf cupcakes, you are missing a treat. I bought three different flavors and ate the Loaf-a-Roma when I arrived home. Tastes just like spaghetti and meatballs. It was wonderful. I did not use the extra marinara sauce that was provided. I didn't feel that it was needed.

The names for the different flavors are a hoot. Lentil Yentil?? That's for the veggie version.

They have a case with cold drinks. One brand is Crayon. Of course, I picked the green lemon/lime. (Those who know me know my passion for Crayola Crayons.) There is also a selection of Coke products and a variety of waters.

The store is quite clean, the staff warm and friendly. She had a great idea and I hope enough people take advantage so that she can expand...slow but steady.

The prices are a little high, but then we're Hoosiers not used to Chicago pricing. Doesn't matter. The food is worth every penny.

If you have the opportunity to visit downtown Chicago, make this small side trip and visit.

Pros: Wide variety of flavors

Cons: Drawbacks...I don't live in Chicago, or in Illinois

My coworker showed me the website a few weeks ago for meatloaf bakery, and since then it has been on my mind. Determined to try the place that sells 'cupcakes' with spaghetti on top, i was sold when i saw the adorable pictures online.

so this evening my fiance and i stopped in and it was amazing! we were greeted by the one of the friendly staff members, were able to speak to the owner as well and enjoy sample sizes of the popular items while we decided which cupcake would come home with us! :)

there are great options that are filled with flavor and look adorable! we decided on the A WING AND A PRAYER and the LAMB A LICIOUS!

these were both unbelievably good, and we are both satisfied and already talking about when we can go again! :)

Definitely will go back again and can not wait to bring friends for them to share the experience too!

thank you meatloaf bakery!

you made our night delicious! :)

xoxo

Pros: great tasting, sweet staff, adorable storefront

Cons: none-

Ratings_icons Meatloaf like you've never tasted before

When The Meatloaf Bakery opened I became an immediate fan. (Okay, full disclosure, I know the owner.) BUT...I was overwhelmed by the tastes of these unique meatloaves--and by the meticulous preparation and presentation. This is a must-try venue for anyone looking for an upscale version of a taste of childhood. Won't find this anywyere else. And don't overlook the sides, either, please!

Pros: Unique...tasty...and a taste for the eyes, too

Cons: I don't live in Chicago anymore

Perfect place to pick up a full meal. A well-conceived and unique idea that works because of terrific flavor, wide variety of meatloaf choices, and great extras to go with. Everything is so fresh. A delightful little shop, and great addition to the Chicago food scene.

Pros: great taste and selection, fresh, fun

Cons: wish was closer to my house

I love this place! I'm way to lazy to make meatloaf and it reminds me of mom's, if only she was a gourmet cook. The Mother Loaf and Omega-3 Loaf are incredible.

Pros: Wonderful variety

Cons: None
