Bakeries are my passion, and this is one of the best. Amazingly good cinnamon rolls, all kinds of breads and the muffins are excellent too!

Grand Central Bakery has a wide variety of pastries as well as great lunch items. Delicious soups, sandwiches. The bread is the best! Pretty sure it just open for mornings and lunch.

To me this is one of the great lunchtime sandwich shops. Perhaps it's the amazing selection of bread that makes the flavors pop, but I've always enjoyed eating here. Pretty sure their evening hours are limited to non-existent so be sure to try them for lunch or call ahead first.

This is not the downtown Grand Central. This is on Eastlake on your way to UW. For those of us that work in the neighborhood it is one of the few lunch spots. I??ve eaten there a bunch and loved everything I??ve had from sandwiches, to soups to pastries. Let me tell you about the pastries. If you have a meeting that people are dreading ?? bring Grand Central pastries and you will be a hit.

I stopped in today for a sandwich. I ordered a full that looked like a half and was rather overpriced. (My sandwich was not more than 4" long, had less than 1" of filling and cost over $7.) But even worse was the rude service and attitude of both employees behind the counter. I probaby should have apologized for putting them out, but I was hungry and needed a sandwich! Next time I'll stay hungry.

Pros: atmosphere

Cons: service, prices, parking

The food here is very good, but at our last visit the service was a little disappointing. The space is very good for groups.

This cafe has a pleasant enough ambience but the service can be brusque, the coffee tepid and the butter croissants so hard you have to tear them apart to eat them (The "teflon croissant"!). When you ask the staff to warm their pastries / croissants they reply that they can't.......which is really incredible for a bakery.

The pastries / croissants are baked off premises and delivered, so they go cold / hard / stale after 2 or 3 hours of sitting there in the display case. I cannot figure out why they would not invest the small amount of money to buy, and the small amount of time to use a small oven.

The cafe here in Seattle which is far superior to Grand Central is Il Fornaio in Pacific Place. Their coffee is hot and rich, and their pastries / croissants delicious / light and flakey. They have a small oven, the size of a microwave that warms a croissant to perfection in about 2 or 3 minutes.
