-- First off, not affiliated with Mantra Indian Restaurant in Katy, TX. So, if you are expecting the same kind of food here in Sugar Land; trust me, it's not. [The owner does not want to step up to competition, I presume -- that of all the names, could only come up with a similar named Houston establishment]

-- The minus points:

1. They include American style non-veg dishes like Wings for buffet, which was literally
undercooked and horrible. (Who wants Wings at an Indian joint anyway. Bhel
Puri, Dosas or Samosas: now that would be something.)
2. You would assume to have a nice Indian dessert after an Indian buffet.
Dissappointed to find only breaded pudding, which you could always have a
better one at Old Country Buffet. ( BTW, it looked pink in color, which was
odd)
3. Careful if you are five or more: An 18% gratuity is automatically added to
your check which can be heavy on your wallet. Other places it would be for
a table of 8 or more.
4. Food less spicy, to cater to a wider range of customers.
5. No South Indian items in their buffet, only the usual North Indian items
and nothing more. (If you fancy: Dosas, Idlis, Vadas, and Sambar-Chutney;
you won't get it here)
6. Last but not the least: The free water served with ice, was soapy and did
not taste refreshing. Ordered a soda instead.

-- The plus points:
1. Good ambience with decent lighting -- unlike some Indian restaurants which
look dull.
2. Waiters are uniformed and well dressed, but of course with little courtesy
to greet customers as they walk in. (C'mon guys, generate some tips: At
least say a Namaste or Welcome!)
3. Service for beverages or hot naans is quick.
4. Since, it's a new establishment, new customers are trying out their food
for the first time, so they have a good sale currently.
5. Restrooms look new and neat.

All in all, a typical Indian restaurant which starts off with a bang, but fizzles out as quickly!

this place is great and the service was very good. The sag paneer, naan, chicken tikka masala were all good. the chicken tandoori was a little dry but still pretty good. we'll be back. the chicken tandoori at the Katy Mantra was a lot better, and the nan also. must try.
