My family and I have used Simi Valley Smiles as our dentist since they very first opened their doors

My family and I have used Simi Valley Smiles as our dentist since they very first opened their doors ... really. It's a beautiful, modern office, the staff have always been friendly, and my dentist has always been honest, real and personable. Even my children look forward to their visits (the video game & DVD corner and toys helped I think). They've never pressured me to accept any treatment they've recommend. So, I've always felt in control to get just the treatment I need when I believe I need it.

When I first found them, I really needed to have some bad dental work fixed from another local dentist (now out of business) and was very worried about it and its cost and had been worried about it for a long time. Turned out only the crown need replaced, so I was a perfect candidate for their while-you-wait same-day make a crown CAD/CAM system. How convenient was that? Having been a software programmer for robotic lath manufacturer, I could not contain my curiosity as I watched my new tooth top being milled and shaped right in front of me. That tooth, that'll be a part of me to use for eating the rest of my life, is still great today.

And my wonder didn't stop there, they have a full head x-ray machine for a first x-ray, which rotates around one's head to take a picture of one's mouth's bone structure. This place isn't just modern, it's downright futuristic! I just couldn't ask them to be more thorough. Regular x-rays and regular in-mouth photographs are done digitally so there's no wait for developing the negatives which make our visits faster. I can see the x-ray, and any potential issues, full screen during my consultation with the dentist. That's just one more thing that helps me feel I've made the right decision each visit.

They've been understanding and flexible with our appointments in my experience. Sometimes we swap one family member for another's appointment. I rarely wait long, and don't mind waiting in the modern big-window-on-open-field-next-door storefront room watching the birds.

I have read the previous reviews, and in conversation with the staff about it today, found out they have new office staff since then. I guess something like that can happen to any dental office. I honestly think this place is a gem. On my last visit I discovered they now have Keurig type coffee maker. I love that.

I had a toothache for about 3 days and did not want to go to the Dentist since I really hate getting my teeth looked at. I go to the dentist every 7-8 months and always need a lot of work done.I was referred to this office by a friend that said she had the best Dental visit of her life. I called and they were able to see me with in hours. When I walked in a very cheerful young woman greeted me with a big smile and knew who I was before I signed in. I had X-rays completed(digitally!!) and an exam by a great Doctor. She informed me that I needed a crown and a cleaning that would help me maintain my gum disease. I have insurance, but as we all know we have copays with anything now a days. I told her that I really couldn't afford to take much time off of work and can I get it all done at the same time. She informed me that they could complete all of my treatment that day if I was willing to be in the office for a few hours and spend a little more money. A pregnant woman came in and explained to me that with my insurance I have a lot of options for my treatment and explained them all to me. I started everything and they did it all...even my permanent crown ( they made it there!!!) I have already sent my parents, wife and in-laws to see her. We all love this place and recommend it to EVERYONE that needs a Dentist.

I am discourage anybody to going to this office. They are fully into selling unnecessary services. My kids who have baby teeth were recommended filling. My 6yr old got filling in 3 teeth. She never had any issue with any teeth. After the filling she had pain for more than 1 month.

For this filling process, they made me wait for more than 30min to verify with my insurance about my copay. They told me my copay is $68 after checking with insurance. I recently got a bill from them for $335.00. They say Insurance rejected the claim.

I called my insurance they said they paied them and my copay is $154.00. Insurance called the dental office twice and left message. They never called the insurance back. When I call them the billing manager says talk to your insurance.

This looks like billing fraud. This has been going on for more than 2 weeks now. It is really frustrating.

I totally agree with VP! I first went there in Feb 2010., they said I needed multiple fillings, and argued with me that my insurance wanted me to pay a copay (which I knew for a fact was wrong because my kids got checkups and treatments there before I did). Also, I checked before I made any appointments, they are a preferred provider on my insurance and there is no copay for the services provided. I finally agreed to paid what they wanted and get a refund later. An appointment that would take maybe 1 hour at my old dentist took over 4 hours!!! After emailing them several times in March, with NO response, I finally took in my EOB from the insurance in June. I spoke to them several times in the last couple weeks, with no response yet and no refund yet. They just keep wanted new appointments for me and my family. I REFUSE to go back to this dentist unless I get my refund. Even then I probably will find a new dentist, so they are losing 5 patients and a getting their well-earned bad name.

My family and Friends use this dentist office and they have been great and more then helpful with todays economy. The dental ins you pick is what where your fees are based from. Maybe look at those fees before you go to your dental office?

I made an appointment at Simi Valley Smiles as a new patient in June, shortly after their grand opening, for an emergency visit. I was in agonizing pain on my bottom left side, and what was worse, this emergency hit a mere 3 days before I had to leave for to work on the East Coast for 2 months.

They were aware of these details, mind you.

My appointment began with X-rays and color photos of my entire mouth, then I was brought into an exam room. There, the dentist basically tried to up-sell me on having my bottom left completely redone, which would total around $3,000 (and yes, I HAVE dental insurance). This was obviously out of the question, as I needed to be drilled-and-filled, STAT, and had a mere 72 hours to do so before I got on an airplane.

From there, another woman came in the room and had me fill out paperwork for a credit check for the ridiculous amount of money the procedure they were pushing on me would cost, rather than just address the emergency at hand. I, of course, knew I would be denied, and when I was, she advised me to try to get my husband approved for this ??loan?. When I said there was no way we could obtain this kind of credit this quickly, she ACTUALLY asked, ??Well, what about your parents, or someone else in your family?? (?!?! I??m pushing 30, have insurance, and need one simple procedure done in a timely fashion ?? why would I EVER be asked by the dental staff to call my parents across the country to co-sign for my teeth??)

To be clear, I am not just a poor person scorned here. I carry insurance, and I knew and expected I would be subject to pay hundreds out of pocket for a root canal. That was understandable. What I was NOT prepared for, however, was being charged THOUSANDS completely unexpectedly and mere days before an open-ended business trip across the country.

When it became quite clear I was not going to bite on signing off on what essentially is the cost of a full set of braces, I was basically ignored for the remainder of my visit. Finally, the receptionist returned, telling me, after HOURS had passed, that I needed a root canal, and I would have to go to their affiliate, First Street Dental, the following day. I was dumbfounded. I asked, baffled, ??Uh, well, can I get my cleaning at least? Since my insurance actually covers that and it??s incorporated into my visit with the X-rays??

She told me they could, but it would be an additional 20 minute wait, and would I rather just return for that the following day for that? (?!?!) I pointed out that I had waited this long, what??s another 20 minutes?

When yet another woman finally did get around to doing my cleaning, she acted as if she was doing me some kind of personal favor. I have had an unbelievable amount of dentistry and orthodontic work done to me over the years, and never once have I had a cleaning as painful and sloppy as what this woman did to me. (And all this is happening, don??t forget, as my molar was still throbbing in the back of my head).

In the end, I was in that office for FOUR HOURS. (My face time with the actual dentist herself was about 15 minutes). It broke 2 major records for me personally: It was the single longest dental visit of my entire life AND it was the first time I ever walked into the dentist with a toothache and left with a toothache. They literally did NOTHING for me but take X-rays, begrudgingly clean my teeth (but only after I asked), and waste my precious time.

The kicker? The receptionist refused to take no for an answer and insisted on booking me a visit 6 months from that date, in December...HA!! As if I would EVER go back to that office! But, if you ever have the unfortunate experience of going there, you??ll see exactly why they??re so desperate to up-sell their customers, as they have to pay for extravagant nonsense like the 8x11 color headshots they distribute of their dentists that include ??fun facts? like their ??Favorite TV Show? (And the LAST thing I want to know about my dentist, a position I typically hold in high intellectual regard, is that they truly believe the best show on television is ??American Idol?)

COMPLETE disaster.
