Pros: Great Chef

Cons: Zero

Italian dishes without the annoying bells and whistles...simple and direct, heightening the pallette experience. Intelligent staff, excellent exec chef Roger, and a visionary owner Sebastian make for an eclectic dining experience.

Terrific place for a bite and a glass of wine. Pasta Broccoli really yummy and my sweetie likes the Baked Rigatoni. The hot bread they give at the table is really fab.

We have come here for years, 3-5 years prior to the remodel, and ever since it has reopened. I haven't had any bad food here and the service has been consistently good. Try the vodka suace with penne and chicken, very good. I feel this is a great local eatery, although the prices have gone up a bit compared to pre-remodel. But hey, how you gonna pay for that anyway? Try this place, seriously.

The new remodel of this landmark restaurant was worth waiting for. This is top of my list for down home Italian cooking at it's best. Every table is a great spot to enjoy some of the best Italian food around. It's a happening restaurant where you can actually hear the person across from you when you have your meal. That's the sign of a good restaurant design and it's warm and inviting. They even have a private VIP room that looks like it would seat a dozen or so.

We LOVE Fab's and dine here a couple of times a week. It is our date night/had a great day at work/had an awful day at work/too tired to cook dinner/just miss the vibe go-to restaurant in our neighborhood. Owners Chef Roger and son Sebastian are wonderful people and always make people feel at home. Sitting up at the bar, Fab's truly feels like an extension of our living room, yet sometimes we are seated in the dining room to create an ambience that feels special and unique when that is what we are seeking.

The food is great, fresh and generously portioned. The restaurant delivers in every aspect - it is absolutely worth a try (it'll become a fave).

Prior to the remodel, I had eaten at or had take out from Fabs dozens of times. Possible into the hundreds. My favorite was fussili with broccoli topped with grilled chicken breast. I'd share a chopped salad. Of course the hot sourdough rolls were a HUGE part of the "my favorite comfort food" experience.

I picked up their take out menu last week and saw that dish was not on the menu. But I did see they had other dishes with broccoli and hoped I wouldn't have to pull a Jack Nicholson 5 Easy Pieces to get my favorite Fab's dish!

Last night I called to make sure they still made it and they do, so I placed a to go order of 2 fussili broccolis, one with grilled chicken breast, chicken parm, and a chopped salad.

We went to pick it up and as usual there was no parking. But a new obstacle was there... valets who were coming and going and blocking the driveway to the pick-up window. Seems like they are parking cars in the liquor store lot. When the driveway was clear, I pulled in and sat there while my friend jumped out and picked up the food.

I think I got an Italian salute from the gray haired valet.

Anyway, food was as good a before but the sourdough rolls have been replaced by what seems like half baked lumps of pizza dough (can you believe this site won't let you type b?lls). Also no butter and no parmesan tossed in the bag.

I read the excuse here that they can't get find the rolls anymore. Alessio still has them, perhaps Fab's should check with them for a supplier.

I'll continue to get my pasta broccoli to go, it's worth the parking hassle and disappointing rolls.

My wife & I walked out after I witnessed the Chef & a waiter walk out of the restroom without washing their hands. It was a true Seinfeld moment as I washed my hands and watched the two of them "finish their business" and then walk of the room without washing. The management was not interested when I called the next day. Avoid this place like the plague if you value hygiene.

After waiting for years for Fab's to reopen, my wife and I booked a table to celebrate our anniversary. When we arrived, the hostess tried to seat us at a table at the bar even though the place was practically empty. The owner had assured us that the kitchen would continue to prepare all of our favorites, but, when we asked for one of our favorites, the server told us "no," then brought an inedible version of the dish anyway. Service was so slow that the meal took over two hours to complete.

The old Fab's was a family-friendly place with paper on the tables and an accessible menu. The new incarnation has gone upscale, but, in part because its food has not changed, comes off as pretentious and sort of fake. I really lament the restaurant's change in tone and attitude.

Pros: Family friendly dishes in an inefficient, not-so-family-friendly Bistro atmosphere

Cons: Pretentious redesign does not accommodate former clientele; service stinks

I use to be a big fan of the old Fabs. I waited all the months it took to reopen. What I loved the best about Fab's the warm bread rolls and the chicken seasame. Guess what, they don't serve that anymore. We had asked the owner why and he indicated the bread was not easy to get so they just ordered a different one. As for the chicken, they took it off the menu. The menu was disappointing. It looks like they have gone to easier things to prepare like salads and sandwhiches. The service was slow, and I can't imagine why they think they needed to put a bar in the resturant, this is not the type of place you hang out at int he evenings. I will not return and think it should have stayed closed.

Watery sauces, tough chicken, over cooked pasta, too many bad memories to list. Anything beyond the rools and salad was terrible.

I have eaten at Fab's when it was open before and have been there at least a dozen times since it has opened and I love it. The people that work there are passionate about the restaurant and it shows. The new decor is super warm and inviting. If they have the Butternut Squash Hankerchiefs as specials, get them they are fantastic!!!! Thanks for opening back up, we are happy to have you back in the neighborhood!!!!

My friend and I had been meeting at Fab's for 'girl talk', fabulous chopped salads and calamari...for 12 years prior to the 'remodel' that took what seemed to be FOREVER...which was about 20 months I beleve. Anywho, it finally opened back up and although we knew the 'scene' would be different, we hoped that the food was just as fabulous. Our waitress that we had been seeing for the longest time no longer worked there...no surprise because it was closed so long. The gentleman that seated us was familiar and so, so nice. The light above our table in darkly lit dining area kept flittering on and off, we told the waitress about it and she said "uh huh" not "I am sorry, we are aware of it, and it will be repaired", "uh huh" Yikes! The rolls were delivered to our table, we smiled, and as we had done for years we split one between the two of us. Yuck! These were tasteless, french rolls, possibly not even freshly baked (came from Ralph's yesterday perhaps?). So no go on the rolls...maybe the calamari would be better, it was about the same, ony a smaller portion. Our salads came and they were not as finely chopped, too big, and did not seem to have the same amount of goodies they used to have, mostly lettuce. Our check came and it was about 30% more than it used to be. We knew we would pay more, which we would not have minded, if the food was still good. Thank you gentleman for being so kind to us, but we won't be coming back anytime soon.

I don't know where all the negativity is coming from, because I certainly won't echo it. The place was great. No sourdough rolls?? Not true on my trip. I got a couple fresh, chewy sourdough rolls on my table moments after sitting down. The decor was very classy. And the food, of course... Great stuff. I had a chicken carbonara linguini, which I thought was fantastic, and when I leaned over to try some of my girlfriend's baked penne, I was sorry I hadn't ordered it! Superb!! Can't wait to go back and try some of the other dishes that sounded tasty...

In further detail:

Food: Mouthwatering from start (home-made rolls, FRESH out of the oven) to finish (best fourless chocolate cake EVER. PERIOD!) And everything in-between (loved the dressing on the dinner salad and meatballs were spiced just right)

Service: Attentive and friendly, with excellent recommendations.

Atmosphere: Ambiance is something the Valley desparately needs more of, which makes the "new and improved" Fab's an extra-welcome addition. The combination of colors, lighting, big windows, and new layout make for a great city vibe. A great place to take a date. In fact, my husband is taking me there tonight.

We returned to the restaurant with friends last evening. We were excited as we had been regular customers for many, many years. The decor is fabulous. The food and service were superb. But...the noise level was so bad, we could not even hear each other in a booth with high sides. The bus boys slammed the dishes in the containers, dropped plates at the clean-up stations, and there are no carpets or buffers for the hard floors and high ceilings. In addition, the warm sour-dough rolls are gone, replaced by very, very salty white bread "muffins" or something like Wonder bread in a roll form. The waitress explained that the cost of the old rolls became prohibitive. Lame excuse. Charge for them or, since prices were already increased at the remodeled cafe, why didn't they take this cost into consideration. We'll find another neighborhood place.

I have been a loyal customer to Fabs for years. I always knew I could always depend upon them to deliver good food and never cared about their prices. After all, good food is worth it and the old FABs never left you disappointed. Well now we have the new Fabs. I called them and they assured me they were one in the same. No real change in menu just a change in decor. Well that got me excited because I miss the old Fab food so I ordered up my usual, chopped salad, meatballs and garlic bread. How the hell can you mess that up? Well they did. I?m so disappointed with them. The meatballs were so dry they had to smother them with sauce hoping you would not notice. The garlic bread was old, dry and burnt. Not what you would expect from such a place.

I?m so upset because I really wanted to give the new Fabs a great review but I can?t. On a scale on 1 to 10 they are a 4.

We have been waiting for some time for the renovation of one of sherman oaks key Italian restaurants.Once we visited the newley remodled Fab's we understood why it had taken so long.I have to say the remodel is first class and just about every seat in the restaurant is a prime seat.I have been going to Fab's since the late 90's and always had many fovorite dishes to choose from.I have noticed with the new editions to the menu every thing tastes better, it's that suttle difference you notice when the food source is top quality.I reccomend you try it now before every one else discovers it.

After anxiously awaiting the grand re-opening of Fabs, we couldn't wait to go enjoy the wonderful, warm, sourdough rolls and delicious chopped salad. We went during the week for lunch. When we arrived, we were saddened to hear that they no longer have the sourdough rolls, but still have warm bread. That warm bread turned out to be basically a hamburger bun slightly warm. ICK! After hearing that they have panini sandwiches, we decided they sounded delish! I ordered the BLT panini ($11) (and expected it to be a warm sandwich with melted cheese) and small chopped salad ($9). My friend ordered the vegetable panini. When my salad came, I took a few bites and then discovered a BLACK HAIR in my salad. I was grossed out. About an HOUR LATER, our so-called PANINIS came....and they were COLD! My BLT panini was basically a regular BLT sandwich on cold white bread! My friend's veggie panini was the same way!! NOT pressed, no cheese, no dressing or sauce of any kind & cold! Just a regular SANDWICH! It took forever to get our food.....there was only one person waiting tables during the busy lunch period! Sadly, we were very disappointed with the "NEW" Fabs....New isn't always better, and, in this case, it's not! I miss the OLD FABS!! Did we really need another "YUPPIE" restaurant near Ventura Blvd.? If you want wine tasting, go to Spazio!

We tried Fab's the week that it opened. I am sure that they were experienceing the ususal first week hiccups. My salmon was reasonably priced & good. A few more veggies & a little less butter on the pasta would be great. Whit wine was warm (oops!).

Decor is cozy. Lovely looking private dining room.

To keep us coming back though they need a children's menu. They actualy wanted to charge us for spiltting my salmon with my kid. I thought that was rediculous.

We are willing to give it another try as Sherman Oaks is desperate for some decent mid-priced, non-chain restaurants.

Much like a child awaiting the arrival of a birthday or Christmas, I waited and waited and waited for Fab's to return. They finally reopened recently so we joyously placed an order for takeout...Eggplant Parmesan..our mouths watering for the amazing Eggplant Parmesan we'd been missing...Joe Fab's grandmother's recipe. Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. Instead of using the traditional breaded eggplant, they now use grilled eggplant. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of grilled vegetables but the contrasting flavors just don't work in this dish. Most of the eggplant was uncooked and inedible. I am willing to give it one more try before saying I'd never go back. I hope things are better next time.

Wow, what a change from the old Fabs, and not in a good way! Ordered take-out for four people, and the food was way below average. Skimpy, skimpy, skimpy on the meat and sauces, and the prices are now outrageous! Ten bucks for a meatball sandwich .... MeatBALL being the operative word. I seemed like they took one meatball, sliced it superthin, and spread it around a stale roll they didn't bother to bake. Another 18 dollars for a chicken dish! The pastas were overcooked and nearly devoid of their respective sauces. I guess they have to pay for that expensive renovation somehow. But if they don't change their tune, I doubt they'll be in business for long.

I went to the old Fabs two years ago and loved it! I love this place just as much. The pizza is still the most amazing pizza I have ever had! The meatballs are also just as good. I give it 5 stars because the food is perfect! The price is a little higher than before, but if you order right (portions are BIG) then you will not spend too much. The atmosphere is 100% better and the wine selection was really simple and good. My only complaint is the lighting kinda stinks, but that will not keep me from going back!

What a disappointment!!! I work down the street and my coworkers and I always used to order from here because the food was good, cheap, and close. And then they closed for remodeling. Now two years later, they've finally reopened and we marked this date on our calendar. We were so excited that Fab's was back!

BUT, Fab's is NOT back! Instead it's an expensive, less than mediocre restaurant

Let me explain...our favorite salad (the antipasto) used to be $7 and filled with meat, olives, beans, cheese, etc...enough for 2 people to share. Now, although the portion size is the same, it is nearly all lettuce with a tiny thimble-sized container of dressing. On top of that, the salads were warm when we got them. Oh, and did I mention that they are now $14!!!??!!?? Double the price, half the meat. Not good. Oh, and, our salads were not made correctly, either.

Needless to say, we will not be going back and I would never recommend this "new" Fab's to anybody.

For years Fab's Italian Kitchen has been the locals' favorite Italian restaurant in the San Fernando Valley. Those who crave that home-style comfort Italian food will love our menu. On behalf of my family, I want to personally thank all of you who have continued to support us over the years.

We have been closed for remodeling since March '07 and there have been many rumors about what is going on here at Fab's, so let me clarify the situation. Fab's did in fact change ownership. Joe Fabrocini sold the business to me, Sebastian, his grandson! Joe's son Roger is still our remarkable chef - he's also my partner and my dad. To make a long story short, the business is still in the family and we have signed another long term lease. We are here to stay!

We feature a completely remodeled dining room with plush high-back booths, wine bar and an exclusive VIP room perfect for business functions and private dinners. We have upgraded our kitchen and are now offering healthier and more interesting menu choices. Take-out, delivery and catering will continue.
We will be hosting wine dinners and showcasing local artists & music.

Fab's has undergone many changes to accompany our delicious cuisine such as new management, better service and upscale relaxed ambience. Hence, we have also changed the name to FAB'S CORNER CUCINA to reflect what are to our neighborhood. Fab's wants to continue our tradition of delicious family-style Italian food for the years to come. Everyone is a VIP to us, and I am personally inviting you to come in and experience the new Fab's.

Again, thanks for all the support!

Sincerely,
Sebastian

Great little place in Sherman Oaks. Large portions of classic Italian food. The fresh bread makes for a great start. I recommend the calamari dish to start with. The place also allows you to bring your own wine with a $5 cork fee. Not bad! Also you can walk away with some money left in your wallet! Great casual date location.

Pros: Inexpensive, Casual but nice, Great service

Cons: $5 wine corkage fee

Yes, as per the editorial review, the restaurant is way to bright and uncomfortable looking. But the food is Delicious, and a great value. We've had the baked ziti and Carbanara delivered more times than I can count. It also made for the perfect meal at an impromptu dinner party last summer - add candles and wine - voila, memories are made.
