This restaurant is the gem of the DTC. I don't make it down there very often and am normally disappointed with the selection of mundane chain restaurants. But I recently discovered Pizza Republica and that has all changed. Their menu items are all straight from Italy -- no American twists or inauthentic additives.
We started with meatballs the size of softballs, enjoyed two of their impeccable pizzas and Nona's stuffed shells (a recipe straight from the owner's Italian grandmother), along with a sampling of a few delicious Italian wines.
Sitting at the bar, we got to know Rona, the bar manager and house sommelier. She led us through a sampling of different varietals and gave us a mini-wine course.
This place really is a gem!
Pros: Real Neapolitan Pizza
Cons: The Drive

They have the best pizza, very fresh ingredients. In fact, they make their own mozzarella cheese! The salads and appetizers are good as well. The environment is contemporary, airy, has outdoor seating and friendly staff. I'm still surprised at the happy hour specials: discounted wine and Italian beer and 1/2 price pizzas. You'll spend only $7-8 on a good size, delicious pizza. You can't get Blackjack's for that!
Pros: happy hour specials
Cons: none!
