I was taking my 1 year old rescued boxer to Happy Paws for just about a year. 'Wally' was in desparate need of training and socialization and we spent A LOT of time and money to ensure that he had it. After attempts at training with many different tools and approaches, we resorted to the use of an e-collar. After several private training sessions, we decided that one of the best things for him would be Doggy Day Care. We settled on Happy Paws as our first interactions with them were very positive. At that time, there was an employee there by the name of Matt who was truly remarkable with dogs and loved Wally as much as we did. In addition, he had a full knowledge of e-collar usage which was VERY IMPORTANT to us as owners. We obviously wanted to make sure that the proper techniques were used. We only sent Wally on the days that Matt worked. Things were great until the insane owner, David, decided that he should turnover most of his staff, including Matt. I was somewhat hesitant to continue using their services without Matt, but was falsely reassured by David. On two separate occassions, when we picked Wally up, his e-collar remote was turned up to '80' which is WAY HIGHER than we EVER used with him. We approached David and he said that it must have been an accident but they would keep an eye on it. Over the course of the next two weeks, there were a couple of unsettling exchanges between David and his staff; he simply treated them with no respect and spoke to them like they were nothing. We decided we would send Wally there without his collar in order to avoid improper corrections. That same day, I received a call from them in the middle of day saying that there was an incident with another dog and we either had to bring his collar there or come get him. I instructed them to put him in a kennel and we would come pick him up. Upon doing so, it was evident that David was flustered and overwhelmed. Not something you would expect from someone who owns a doggie day care. We said that we didn't understand what the problem was and why his collar was needed. David responded that "it was the only way they could control him'. I was immediately infuriated as this basically told me that they had in fact been using the e-collar on an unacceptable setting simply because they have no idea how to work with dogs and moreover what is 'normal' pack behavior. Needless to say, that was Wally's last visit there and we received refund for our remaining visits.
Bottom line is that David has no business having anything to do with dogs. He has no background or training with dogs and his people skills are equally lacking such that he should not be a business owner.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE unless you want to have to worry about their treatment.

THE MOST HORRIBLE DAYCARE EXPERIENCE EVER ~
I have been taking my (2) labs to Happy Paws for the past year and a half - usually for a few hours on Saturday to play. The owner has been a little rude in the past but today was absolutely awful. I picked up my labs about 10 minutes too early (a new rule in place) and apologized when the owner (David) glared at me. He then growled something and went to retrieve my Labs in the back. I heard him YELL something in anger and then he returned a few minutes later with my dogs. When i asked if everything was okay, he responded with "No. They chewed the baseboards in the kennel." I immediately apologized and offered to reimburse him for the damages. He then replied with "No, it happens all of the time with large dogs. I will either have to deal with it or just accept small dogs. IT IS DUE TO THE FACT THAT LARGE DOGS ARE SO POORLY TRAINED."
With that, I walked out, went home, and then called him back after I had time to calm down. Needless to say, I have never been treated like this - especially after offering to rectify the sitation. I would recommend Puptown Charlotte and Camp Wagging Tails instead.

I walked into Happy Paws Daycare & Kennel today to inquire about a job. The own had just stepped out the front door to speak to an employee. As I waited in the lobby the owner began to scream at the top of his lungs at the poor guy. He called him an F-ing idiot, said he was retarded, and many other swears and curses. I walked out because I will not work for someone who has no respect for his employees and the owner glared at me with Charlie Manson eyes. He looked as if he was ready to kill someone. The employee on the recieving end of this said to me as I walked away " You don't want to work here." The reason I am against this place is because I would not leave my dog with someone that unstable. I wouldn't doubt if he kicks or beats the dogs when he gets mad. DO NOT USE THIS KENNEL!

We had to take one of two dogs to the vet after they returned from this facility. Both dogs were filthy, one has a torn ear and eye infection. No need to go on about the management, they deny any responsibility. Don't take your pet here!
