During the last week in December 2010, we contacted Central Home Services Corp. to check our central vacuum that had stopped working. We were given one of those "4 hour windows" when a serviceman would arrive. Steve, the owner, arrived two hours late.
Steve said the old units motor was blown and could be repaired for approx. $400 or a new one would be $795 INSTALLED. He said the new vacuum was a Beam, a good quality brand and he had them in stock. Steve then told me the new vacuum's price was about $700 and installation, which would take about an hour, was about $100. I said I'd need a day or two to think about it and let him know.
On or about Friday, Dec. 24th., I called both Steve on his cell (left message) and spoke with a young lady at his office to go ahead with the installation of the new vacuum. Steve had not given me the model # of the Beam vacuum so after a little research, I came up with the same model, a 375c that they were going to use anyway, as the young lady confirmed at the office. She told me the price of the vacuum only was $705, close to what Steve had quoted me. Price and model have now been confirmed and installation could be done the following week. Great! Steve never called me back.
On Dec. 28th, a young man in a van came to do the install. He was done in less then 30 minutes - half the time I was told it would take, and we were charged $150 for installation and a higher $725 for the vacuum. The total price has gone from $795 to $928.47. We even gave the the guy a $20 tip and they (he) didn't even have the courtesy to take the old vacuum away or the large, tall box and packing material of the new vacuum. My father paid the bill unaware of the inflated price.
Since then we have both talked to the young lady at the office and left 3 messages for Steve with not a single call back. We called again and they dont even pick up the phone now. Further more, after checking the internet, I see that Central Home Service Corp. has a special promotion offer of a " 15% " discount for services rendered. We never received this either.
Steve and this company lied to us and now wont return our calls. Something must be done about this company. Do not trust this company!
