I have banked with NFCU fro 25 years. For the first 20 or so they were fantastic. Now they are absolutely horrible. They have archaic systems and processes, terrible customer service, and should no longer be trusted with your money. They have not evolved in a positive way.
I tried to pay my credit card online and kept getting timeout and broken link errors. I reported it via e-message. We kept going back and forth about it. Them saying there was no problem and to call in my payment and me telling them there was an issue. My account went 30 days past due during this process. My creidt card account was closed without notification. I was reported 30 days late to the credit bureau and they reported my account closed. The only blemish in 25 years of creidt history. Because of this they cut off my Home Equity line of credit. I've sent 4 letters (only 2 of which have received responses and it took 32 and 35 days for a response). Numerous emails without response. I was given a point of contact to call and have left 6 messages over 3 weeks or him without a response.
This has now been going on for 5 months. Each time I talk to someone they have no idea what anyone else has said and I leaving messages gets no reply. I can't even switch the debt I carry with them (closed credit card, vehicle loan and Home Equity LOC) to good financial institution because when they killed my credit score (dropped it from 770 to 675 with that one bad report) I can't get decent rates. I'm being held hostage.
Anyone reading this probably is thinking "there has got to be more to this story", but there isn't. It's so frustrating and unbelievable that it's almost comic.
Anyone banking with NFCU is a fool.

Since changes its hours, this branch has increased its customer service. The lines are not as long, especially on Saturday, and there is always someone to answer your questions. I am one very pleased customer.

This particular location is the headquarter of the Navy Federal Credit Union. Therefore, additional services are offered, such as mortgages, loans, coin deposit machines, etc. This is the easiest credit union to join. As long as you know anyone who is an account holder, you can join. There are many free services I enjoy, such as free cashier's check, no monthly fee, etc. The mortgage service is very speedy (I closed in 2 weeks), but not necessarily smooth. I had to follow up very closely to ensure all the mistakes were corrected and everything went through. The mortgage rate is not the lowest, but considering the super low closing fees, it may work out for you. The ATM locations are very limited, and they do not reimburse foreign ATM fees like most internet banks do. Therefore, it's only worthwhile if you live by a branch. The line in the lobby is usually very long, but they have many tellers to keep the line moving. There are 2 coin deposit machines and there is usually a very long line too. You can only use the coin machine if you are an account holder, because the coins go directly into your account. Parking may be difficult depending on the time of your visit. There is usually a long wait to speak to an associate.

PROS: Free cashier's check, no monthly fee, coin machine, quick mortgage process.
CONS: Usually long wait for everything, not many ATMs, hectic mortgage process.
