Most items served are very greasy. I did not even feel like eating them. It takes a long time (over 20 min) for them to serve food. Most items do not have an authentic indian taste. They need to have a new cook in there. I would suggest trying India Ka Raja instead of this.

Pros: good parking, ambience

Cons: bad food quality, horrible food

I REALLY think the buffet is a great deal for what you are getting. The food is decent. Whether a vegetarian or not, it has dishes for both. I also agree with the other user, one person can order Halal meat and another might order Alcohol and everyones happy. You have the FREEDOM to choose here.

Pros: THEY HAVE NIHARI !!!

Cons: Wish the sign was BIGGER, they may be hard to find

my food was take out and by the time i got it home it had seperated and looked like a jar of salad dressing before before you shake it. a layer of oil at least an inch thick had formed on both the meat and vegitarian dishes i had ordered. I litterally had to pour of the top before i could eat. also even after overtipping i had to fight for a side of mint chutney to go with my meals and ended up paying for it $4 for maybe 2-3oz of it. be stingy with the chutney and you get no repeat buissness thats the last time i give a 50% tip before i try the food

Pros: The best Indian cusine in Richmond VA

Cons: COOL PLACE

.

I tried Shahi Kitchen a couple of weeks ago because it was a new Halal restaurant in Richmond. But when I went inside the restaurant there was a bar right at the entrance. I became a little skeptical but continued in. The food was was very bad and a little lacking the quality. I asked them what drinks they had and they asked if I wanted to see the alcohol menu. I politely answered no finished my meal and left. I am disappointed that they advertise as Halal, yet still serve alcohol, which is a contradiction.

Pros: Example: best croissants in town

Cons: What are the drawbacks?

I went here a couple of weeks ago and was VERY disappointed. Their food was overly priced and I did not feel my money was well spent. I find it very hard to believe that the food is Halal even though alcohol is served there. The silverware and glasses were all very dirty. Our waitress was unorganized and uneducated about the menu. I doubt I will visit Shahi Kitchen again.

I tried this restaurant three different times. It is good. They have big buffet everyday and everyday they have different items. The price they are charging for the buffet is very reasonable compare to the items they keep. Staff is so courteous and friendly. Look is very rich but food is very reasonable. I will highly recommend this restaurant to every body.

Pros: Plenty of space.

Cons: They need more help. They are so busy.

Shahi Kitchen is located in the building previously occupied by Aunt Sarah's at the corner of Emerywood Pkwy & W. Broad St. The owners have done a lovely job of updating the window treatments and reupholstering the chairs and booths. The wood tables and booths remain.

My lunch companion and I opted to give Shahi a try since our last visit to Royal India on Hungary Springs was somewhat disappointing. Lunch is buffet style and a menu was not offered. Total bill including tax was $9.44 for buffet and water. Chai is included; iced tea is not. A wonderful naan comes with the buffet and is brought fresh to your table. It's probably the best I've had in Richmond.

On the plus side the main part of the buffet was served in covered chafing dishes with large, easy-to-read labels. Condiments & chutneys were served in a standard salad bar unit and were not labeled. Beware the eggplant cooked in exotic spices - it's overly salty. The mint chutney is first-rate.

The buffet provided an adequate selection and after a single plate, I was too full to try anything else except the chai and the gulab jamun for dessert. The Tandoor chicken was made with chicken breast, which I prefer since chicken thighs are not my personal favorite, however, the meat was very dry. This might have been expected if we had come later in the day, but we were early customers for the buffet. Chicken Biryani was made with drumsticks only, bone included; the rice was very spicy, but tasty and moist. I didn't try the goat kofta curry, but my friend said it was good.

Sides included palak paneer, by far the best side offering of the day. It was wonderful. The chana masala failed only in that the beans were very nearly raw. The flavor was good. Proper soaking and cooking time would improve the dish. There was also an eggplant chunks in yogurt sauce dish that was so sour neither of us could eat it.

Shahi earns 5 stars for service, but the food was just average. We will return to try the dinner menu.

Pros: Service, parking, location, cleanliness, buffet presentation

Cons: Buffet price is high for lunch, buffet price not disclosed anywhere, food needs improvement
