This was the first time at this spot and I kind of had high hopes. I ordered the two meat combo plate, the korean style ribs and kalua pork. I've been to several hawaiian restaurants and I kind of consider myself a foodie so I had high expectations. The price is a lil bit high for the category of food, but if it would've tasted great it wouldn't have been an issue at all. The kalua pork was dry and tasteless, just no flavor at all. I had to drown it in hot sauce to make it decent. The ribs were very good, unusually tender for that style of bbq ribs and the sauce was sweet and tangy without being overly sweet. The dish came with only a single scoop of rice, it was an average scoop. The tomato and cucumber salad was interesting, it was bold and daring with flavor. However it might not suit many people's tastebuds for sure. I like to give restaurants several tries before I make a yay or nay decision, so I will try this place another time with another selection off the menu for sure. The most disappointing thing had to be the Kalua Pork, it's supposed to be so full of flavor and this particular time it tasted like it had sat in a steam dish for quite while as the meat's natural juicy flavor had drained out of it as well as it being oversalted, just a let down there.

Cons: Slightly pricey for serving and kalua pork was dry

Tommy O's on 192nd and 34th St. is a very nice, new restaurant. It is very clean and comfortable inside. Our group had stir fry and coconut shrimp and it was great. They have a happy hour menu until 6pm with great prices. They also have a very nice glassed-off dining room for large groups. It also has a lounge area but we ate in the dining room. It is in a busy shopping center with lots of parking. I would recommend this for a nice, relaxing evening.

Tommy O's recently provided our Holiday Breakfast for work. The food was good, but a bit overpriced. The service was excellent. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff very friendly and efficient.

We have been to Tommy O's for breakfast. It is interesting food with a flavor that is different than what I am use to. It is good once in awhile but I wouldn't want a steady diet of it.

This restaurant was a lot nicer inside than I thought it would be. It was a good variety on the menu and the service was right on. It was priced pretty reasonable also. Plus it's a good alternative to the same boring types of food.

Pros: good service,good food

Cons: none

I had the Tommy O's pork with noodles and the tomatoes and cucumbers.
I don't remember the last time I had a meal that tasted that good. That the pork was so tender and the perfect flavor and paired with the noodles was outstanding!!! I can't wait to go back!

I absolutely love Tommy O's I have been a long time customer of their downtown shop and have been exited to have them open a new place in East Vancouver. Their food is wonderful, the New York steak is awesome as is their calamari. I love their late night happy hour and the beer selection is hard to beat. I recommend you don't listen to the haters who only order fish and chips and go try it for yourself

The prices are way out of line for what they offer. I went to lunch years ago down town and got the fish and chips lunch special - I was with a friend who got the same. When I got my bill it was over $20 for two small pieces of fish and soggy fries. I thought it was for both of us - no just mine.
Another friend wanted to go to new one on 192nd, menu was not the same - I like the katsu (?) chicken. Did not have there. Prices were high and we spent $38 for two mediocre pork sandwiches and again soggy half burnt fries and a soda - for lunch. Will not be going back. I am surprised the restaurant stays open downtown let alone can open a new one. Also agree with the slow service time - when you are on a one hour lunch you can not wait 50 minutes for your food.

Pros: NONE TO SPEAK OF

Cons: EXPENSIVE/MENU NOT LIKE DOWNTOWN

First of all, it took the waitress about 15 minutes and asking another waiter to check on my order before she came back to say that they were out of the beer I ordered. I ordered the tofu lettuce wraps (expecting them to be like the excellent ones at PF Chang's), and they were just bland salad rolls, and too expensive for two little rolls. I then ordered the california rolls, and when they came out, it turned out to be imitation crab. That's one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to seafood at restaurants- if you're going to use fake crab, DON'T advertise it as real crab.

On the plus side, my friend asked for the nachos, which our waitress said were only available for happy hour. She then asked who we believe to be the owner's son, and even though it wasn't happy hour, he got them for us. The nachos were were excellent. If I ever go back to Tommy O's again, I'm only going at happy hour.

I really hope they succeed but you have to wait so long for the food to arrive it's crazy. I've been here twice now and had to wait way longer than you would expect for a good place. They latest took 1 hour from sit down to food arrival. If they don't improve I fear they'll go away like the Chinese they replaced.

I have been to both Tommy O's locations numerous times and both offer the best food, spirits and atmosphere to be found in Vancouver. Options are key, and you will find dishes ranging in price and preference at both restaurants.

The lounge scene is spectacular and few can compete with their happy hour, not even in Portland. The staff in knowledgeable, the wine list is stellar and there is free music at both locations many nights of the week.

Pros: Best food in SW WA, lots of dietary options, cocktails

Cons: Sometimes inconsistent

.

This place is really neat. I really like their fresh, different foods. We ate in in the restaurant for lunch and had a fantastic tuna sandwich and a carrot and jalepeno soup with maui chips. So good. Later that week we went to the separate lounge. That was such a suprise! A very cool place to hang out. Lots of loung-y seating, a man singing wiht a guitar, surf movies playing and a fantastic pulled pork quesadilla! One of the best places to relax for an after work drink in Vancovuer.

Pros: something different

The place is nice. The parking is a joke one entrance. The food is ok the price is high. It doens't cost that much to make the food they are making. Especially when you pay such cheap labor and I mean cheap. The chef is a east coaster, and all talk. They will not be open very long.

My sister took me to the new location on 192nd. Great food but it was busy and the service was a little slow. My sister paid the bill with her Visa and left a very nice 25% cash tip but when she received her Visa statement it had a additional 20% tip on it. She called the restaurant and when they pulled her receipt they could see that she didn't leave a tip on her card. The manager was very nice and credited her Visa card. It pays to check your statement.

It's true. What a classy place. From the great live Hawaiian music, to the cocktails, to the choices and proportions of delicious, DELICIOUS food. I feel the aloha spirit here - they are so very nice, and a great asset in community affairs. Take my credit card Tommy, I don't care, I always leave his place feeling happy and stuffed - I'm willing to pay a little extra for style and good food. As a picky Hawaiian restaurant reviewer, Tommy O's gets my vote as one of the absolute best.

My family and I have been long time customers of Tommy O's. We enjoy everything on the menu and always have wonderful service. I highly recommend the Kalau Pork or the Katsu Chicken which are both my favorites. Also remember when given the choice always take the Macaroni Salad, they make it with just enough curry. I met some of my girlfriends last week at Tommy O's for Happy Hour and was super surprised at the menu and drinks. The coconut shrimp was a great way to start and the tropical itch put any cocktail I have ever had on the islands to shame...it was a great getaway even though I never was out of town. I highly recommend Tommy O's for either family night out or for meeting up with friends. IT'S A VANCOUVER CLASSIC!

This unique restaurant serves Downtown Vancouver well with it's easy going atmosphere and delicious Hawaiian food. I have been here several times and I have never disliked the food or the service, plus you are always seated right away, no wait! They have great appetizers and desserts too, and if you ever stop by for breakfast you have to try the local girl home fries!

After the review we saw about this restaurant in the Columbian, my wife and I decided to try a little bite one night after work. The food was good, but we happen to hear a man ask the bartender "What kind of ****ing bartender are you?" We were both horrified to hear that kind of language coming from a customer of the restaurant. We later found out that it was Tommy Owens himself. Apparently she was fired before we even left and the server who took care of us told us that she was the third bartender who has been fired since the opening in April. The one who opened the bar was fired for a reason that no one seems to know and the second may or may not be coming back.

As good as the food was, we won't be back to see another display of ownership treating their employees with such disrespect in front of customers.

Just tried Tommy O's for the first time today and it was great! We went in on a Sunday afternoon. Service was fast, the atmosphere is cool, and the food is SO YUM.
We both had the Chicken Teriyaki lunch, which comes with rice and either cucumber & tomato salad, or macaroni salad. The rice was delicious, the cukes and tomatoes were fresh, and the CHICKEN was TO DIE FOR. So tender. Only around $9 apiece, and the portions were generous. I also noticed that there were some sandwiches on the lunch menu for $6.
Only a few blocks walk from the movie theater, so it rounds out a nice weekend afternoon.
I loved Tommy O's. We'll be back often!

Tommy's is fantastic for breakfast and lunch, but the dinner will surpass your expectations! I highly recommend the Paniola Steak, best meal I've had this year! I have tried many things on the menu and they are all fantastic. With options like Wild Salmon, Char-Grilled Jumbo Prawns and the famous Kalua Pork, this restaurant is far beyond other Vancouver restaurants. My fiancee is a vegetarian, so it's great that they have delicious options for him as well. For lunch, I recommend the Da Kine sandwich, using only boar's head meats and cheeses, this is the highest quality sandwich in Vancouver. It's obvious they care about using top notch ingredients. Don't miss the fish and chips on Fridays! I disagree with the other users comments about service, I always feel the spirit of the island when I'm there. Friendly, prompt, accomodating service has always been my experience. I have never experienced long waits on my food, and this place is always at least fairly busy. Highly recommended for all meals! Check out the new unique cocktails too!

While there is a shortage of quality restaurants in Downtown Vancouver Tommy Os is one of the better ones when it comes to menu, food quality and ambiance. With that said, Tommys is severely lacking when it comes to service. After dinning here twice and ordering take out once, I experienced extremely long waits every time. Im talking a good 15 minutes before your order is taken, and another 30+ minutes before your food arrives. Each time they were not that busy. Give it a try if youre in the mood for Hawaiian food and you dont mind the wait. Ignore the other reviewers comment about it rivals most Portland restaurants, thats totally absurd. Compared to the better restaurants in Portland Tommys is average at best, the slow service drops it to slightly below average; with the variety of quality restaurants in Portland its hardly worth a drive across the bridge. If you do decide to give a try, best of luck I hope you get better service than I did, youll probably enjoy the food. Sorry, I have no recommendations from the menu.

Tommy O's is hands down the best place for lunch and dinner anywhere in Vancouver and rivals most Portland area restaurants. I have been eating at Tommy O's for lunch for years and have recently discovered his dinner menu is EXCELLENT. The Pacific Rim Bistro theme is well executed with fresh fish specials daily and a fantastic happy hour menu. The atmosphere is fun and casual while still being appropriate for dates and other more formal occasions. Check out the live music Fridays and Saturdays.

..., you won't be disappointed! Tommy's has been a downtown institution for a decade but now there's more reasons to love his place....Dinner is amazing. If you're in the mood for fish, you can't beat Tommy's halibut or scallop dishes. Feeling more like beef? Then you can't pass up the Kalbi ribs.

This place has since moved, but is still in the downtown area. I've been here both for lunch and brunch. For lunch I've gotten the vegetarian Asian noodle bowl, which is noodles seasoned with a soy ginger dressing, served hot with stir fry vegetables. When I eat brunch there I purchase the Kailua (sp?), which is veggies and tofu in a curry suace. It's good each time I get it. There is also a vegetarian sandwhich on the menu.
