SWERVE is a L.A. workout studio that has a refreshingly comfortable and warm quality that you can feel when you walk through the door. Nobody is in competition here. The Scene
Situated on the top floor of a mini-mall, the walls of this one-room, 15-person studio are draped in flowing crimson curtains and tiny white lights. The feeling is feminine and funky, yet completely soothing, except for the sound of an occasional blaring horn rising up from busy Third Street below. Before each class, a clamor of mat-toting women, fresh from the office, wait patiently for the studio empty before claiming a precious spot on the wood floor.

The Workout
Most popular classes are Jazz Groove, Candlelight Yoga, Six Pack Abs and the always-packed Yoga Booty Ballet, which combines elements of hip-hop dance, ballet poses and Hatha yoga. These classes are a killer workout, but the exhilirating charge from the high-revved exercise will help ease the pain of tomorrow's aching muscles. Instructors are motivating and will guide novices and pros alike for a very distinctive experience.

The Inside Scoop

  1. Parking - The tiny lot in the front of the building is usually full. Street parking is a possibility, but give yourself plenty of time in this busy neighborhood.
  2. Know Before You Go - The class schedule changes every month; be sure to check for updates before you go.
  3. The Extras - Classes are sold in packages, by the hour, or by the class. Start with a single class and see what's right for you.

by UmiGoddess

There is no place like Swerve - it's home. The vibe is totally supportive in so many ways. The teachers and staff will support you on whatever your journey - whether it's to transform physically, mentally or spiritually or just to let loose & get rid of some of that extra stress you developed at work or sitting in traffic. If you just want to laugh & have a good time or take some time for yourself - you can do it at Swerve!! There's truly something for everyone here. There's a huge selection of classes, from yoga, meditation to kick ass sculpt classes, circuit training in the gym, ballet, bellydance, bollywood and hybrid YBB! So much to offer! I suggest to try them all! Each is different & unique, just like the people who come to Swerve. It's no joke - Swerve *is* a Kula of the heart - My Oasis. And all you need to do is be there...that's it. And you've joined and you'll feel welcome. They'll remember your name or your face. It's that kind of place! ENJOY!

Pros: Friendly supportive atmosphere, KICK ASS classes/workouts!

The Most Feel-Good Gym in LA

by Anniemagnifique

Swerve is truly one of LA's gems. It offers a wide range of classes that are taught by inspiring and fun teachers. If you want a light workout, you can get it, or if you want a truly intense (and at the same time, spiritual) workout, you can get that, too. Gillian's warmth and wisdom is a blessing, and her presence is such a big part of Swerve.

Pros: Warm, Friendly, Great Classes

Fitness Made Fun

by Neyla D

I have to admit that at first I was a bit intimidated to try the class, but once I did I felt like I discovered a gem. Yoga Booty Ballet is a fun, dynamic, exciting and challenging class. By the end of class, I think I actually started yelling, "Yeah!" :) I'm bringing my girlfriends to try it.

no pressure place

by emilybyoga

I am a teacher at swerve and I love the unique variety of people I meet here. There's always a warm welcome at the front desk, and the classes are top-notch. I take Patty's circuit training class and i LOVE it. She is a fabulous teacher. It's great to have a studio in LA where you don't feel pressured to look a certain way, but rather to feel good about yourself!

Pros: warm, diverse, friendly, safe, feel-good studio

Inspiring

by errismontoya

I stumbled into a Yoga Booty Ballet class not knowing what to expect. It was a creative, inspiring, fun and fierce workout. The facility has a dance studio feel which I enjoy. The atmosphere was friendly and non-judgemental.

Class was 90 minutes. We started with a yoga warm up and a few positive affirmations. Next, the cardio dance section which was innovative, yet easy to follow. After dancing, we moved into sculpting exercises which seemed ballet based. Class ended with yoga stretches and a short meditation.

Pros: Innovative, Creative and Effective

Cons: parking

innovative

by benjam26

Swerve is such a great place to get a workout. The instructors teach innovative methods, and keep the routine fresh and fun. They fill up quick, so call and ask about classes times and occupancy. They also have a separate personal training gym, which I haven't used, but prices seem fair and the equipment looks brand new.

Pros: Innovative , Fun, Great Workout

Cons: Parking
