Frozen margaritas are the best! Food is good Tex-Mex and reasonably priced. Fast and professional service. Should definitely try it, at least once!

I live right around the corner so I go frequently. The margaritas are great. I always get fajittas and they are decent, but not great.

I really like their enchiladas (the cheese is a little crispier on top) and the owner is very friendly!

Group of coworkers got together to say goodbye to coworker leaving the company. We ordered appetizers which were good.
I ordered Turkey and Coke paid $7 or 8 dollars-was just like drinking a coke. My coworker paid for the 2nd drink, and I paid for the 3rd. Total cost $21 to $25 dollars for 3 what they called premium drinks their reason for cost of it. I walked out of there as if I had drank 3 plain cokes. Went to my kids highschool football game -0- buzz. What a ripoff. Stold my money.

Although it is true that the margaritas at Tony/s are good, that is the only favorable comment I would have. I have been there several times, usually with a large group of family or friends. There has always been a problem, either with the orders or the check. Once our credit card was charged TWICE for our meal and when we went back to straighten it out, they were quite rude. I wiould never go back.

Tony's is a great mexican restaurant in the Heights. I enjoy their margaritas and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu (fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos are all good choices). There salsa is my husbands favorite!

Are you hungry? If so, order the parilla. We ordered this dish that served two persons, but three could have partook. First the chips: they are warm, crunchy with good hot sauce. The parilla comes on a sizzling platter. It has two split quail that are grilled, and shrimp that are wrapped in bacon. Of course, chicken and beef fajitas. There was so much to eat. The only downside was that we were a couple and they sat us in the back in a room full of families with noisy kids. Oh well, we should have told the manager and we didn't. Our bad! But, again - the food was delicious. Get there early on a Friday or there is a wait.

We have been going to Tony's for several years but never again. The quality of the food has gotten so bad it is not edible. The margaritas have never been up to par, we quit ordering them a long time ago. Service is horrible. On our last visit, I had to get up and find a waiter, who was then rude, waited a long time for the food and it arrived all at the same time - queso, tacos and enchilladas - and was cold - and had to get up and find my waiter for the check. To top it all off , the owner was wondering around aimlessly. I have never understood why the place is always crowded. Never again. We will not be back. Attention restaurant owners - there is alot of growth and new people in the area - please open new quality restaurants as I am tired of driving miles to find a decent meal.

we have been going to Tonys for years. It has declined over the last 1-2 years.
The food ok and the service can be real bad at times.
They still have, I feel, the best green sauce on the planet.
I sure hope they clean up their act or I may not go there anymore.

food is bad, margaritas are the best thing they serve there. I went there for months and spend like 60 dollars on margaritas and food i didn't really eat, I was there mainly for the margaritas, I heard people making gay jokes and i didn't like that, i told my friends not to go either, on fridays gay people made good money for the owner, until the owner apoligizes to gay people we wont go there not even for the excellent margaritas. the place is begining to have that poor getto clientele.

I live not too far from here, and I eat out A LOT. I do LOVE mexican food, and so I thought I'd try this place. It's always packed and I read great reviews about the place. However, after dining there, I absolutely dont understand the hype about this place. The queso was about as plain as anything else I've tried. The salsa was simple, nothing spectacular. I just do not get it?? The food was way average! I would almost rather eat at Casa Ole..NOT KIDDING! The maragaritas weren't bad. oh well....

I'm a transplant to Houston, and was intrigued by this place, after driving by and reading the enthusiastic reviews posted about it here. I love good Mexican, and I know my stuff. SHOCKED at how enamored people are with it. Big deal, guys. Service was OK, food was OK, didn't have drinks (I know, I know), but definitely not a 5 star rating. From my recollection, to the other reviewer comments, it's not "oilcloth" it's called plastic, and no homemade tortillas = no good rating from this dude. Wake up people.

We have enjoyed Tony's for many years, sometimes dining there twice a week. They have very good food for a moderately priced family mexican restaurant. My husband thinks the cheese enchiladas are the best in town. Beware---the margaritas are very strong! Friday nights used to be a party scene but it has cleaned up a lot in the last year much to our delight. We have several favorite waiters that we always request and they take extrememly good care of us by providing excellent service. The restaurant is always packed so they must be doing something right!!!

Always went there with a large group of friends spent LOTS o money with this group. Always a party atmosphere, drinks are served promptly and quickly. Chips and salsa are awesome. However their entrees leave much to be desired. I ordered fajitas that were not - it was stewed beef sauteed with onions. Definitely have had better. I was expecting slices of marinated steak. The fish tacos while good but they were quite stingy with the portions. Ordered the pork chops and got two thin chops - for 13 bucks I expected a chop not a breakfast slice. In spite of all this I continued to go with friends for camraderie and atmosphere.
However, I will not be back. The owners seem to be on an odd religious streak and frankly I am tired of these "family" restaurants that really aren't. Businesses seem to think that by adding "family" and or "american" to the marquee they can dupe suspecting or unsuspecting folks to patronize them cuz they present themselves as paragons of virtue and morals while copiusly pushing alcohol and getting their customers licquored up.
They seem to be using that as some sort of code for "we don't like the gayz." They obviously are not realizing who patronize the restarant and pay the bills especially on the weekends. This type of discrimination is insulting just like the small portions, the pushy alcohol service (they actually have one woman that goes table to table making sure you never have an empty glass). The final straw for me was have my tip amount changed the last time I was there.
A while back some friends recommended that we boycott the restaurant and I did not - had no reason to do so. Now that I know where the owner spends money and after looking back at the crappy service and food I've had there in the past. I don't recommend this restaurant and will not return.

I recently moved to this part of town and was excited about having a good mexican food restaurant close. I was excited to go to Tony's because several people had recommended it, but I was really disappointed. The food was just...sub-par. We went on a friday night and the wait was thirty minutes and the bar was packed. The atmosphere was definitely lively, but you couldn't really move. I would be ok with that if the food was good. But that was not the case. I'm not even sure I want to give this place a second chance.

Last night was my first time at Tony's and will be my last. The margaritas were small and awful, the food was good but not good enough to come back for. I did not like how i was cramed around 5 other tables in the middle of the floor with very loud obnoxious people around me bursting out laughing right in my ear. i think my ear is still ringing. My boyfriend got the wrong order but the waiter was kind about it. Overall not a place me or my friends would come back to.

While this used to be the place to go for Mexican food in Houston, it has become a big dissapointment. I live one street over and will drive out of my way to eat Mexican food anywhere but Tony's. On my last visit, the waitstaff was pretty much non existent and it took me tracking him down to get our check. I ordered chicken enchiladas, but only had about 4 very small pieces of chicken floating in cheese. My husband had the fish tacos, and once again, they were very stingy with the fish. It was almost insulting with the quality of food they serve now. The only thing I still give them pretty good credit for is the tortilla soup. This was not the first time we had this low quality of food and service. I don't know why they are lowering their standards so much. Do yourself a favor and try another Mexican restaurant.

This restaurant is a home run plain and simple. The service and staff were pleasant and helpful. We were seated right away and the waiter took our drink order within minutes. The margaritas were awesome. Their spicy salsa was the best I have ever had. Too bad they dont sell it by the jar in house. My mother has salt and spice issues and the waiter brought the chef out to make sure the dish was done right. The atmosphere was alive but not noisy. The food was nothing short of excellent. my brother in law and I had enchiladas that were very tasty and my mom had the chicken fajita that she loved. The portions are huge so bring an appetite. Coming from NYC where there are tons of restaurants this place would be a gold mine.

Ok, so I went there once and saw this place and was like, "Good God they need to be inspected here," BUT they have been inspected by the best of the best in the big blue glasses who is no longer with us, and have passed with flying colors. Their food is really the best mexican food so far (pappasito's is 4th on my list), and the menu is decently priced. Parking isn't all that great, margarita's aren't too shabby either! The waitstaff is pretty good and they usually seat you really quickly because the restaurant is pretty large. I definitly enjoy eating here often.

I really did not see what the hype was all about! Terrible service! Once I found parking I had to hike to the restaurant and the house that I had to pass to get to the restaurant was very strange! People making comments to us and expecting a response, really did not understand why the parking lot was located where it was. Very offensive to have to endure that just to get Mexican Food that was sub par! I expected more!

Without a doubt Tony's is our favorite mexican food restaurant and we've always gotten great attentive service. The ritas are powerful no doubt - and the place gets packed Fridays and Sat because it's awesome. We just returned from Mexico and our first Houston restaurant stop TONY'S, there is no better place for Spinach enchiladas, raging margaritas and a comfortable happy atmosphere.

I recently had a gathering at Tony's . I called in advance to reserve tables. When my guest did not arrive promptly at the appointed time, I was told that they could not wait any longer and began pulling away our assigned tables. The wait staff was very rude, pratically trying to take our plates away before we were done eating. The food was not good at all, maybe we should have taken the hint and let them take our plates. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone nor would I return.

When I come here I always get 3 Fajita Soft Tacos and as many Margaritas with Sangria that I can drink, which is usually 2 lol The food here is great and margaritas are good and strong. If you plan on coming here on a Friday come early because after 7:30 it's packed.

I've been a customer of Tony's for about 10 years. It is an excellent place to go and have some great food and margaritas. Their ritas are strong so beware! I recommend their fajitas, asada, enchiladas, fish tacos, and don't forget ray's dip!! The atmosphere is also a ton of fun. It's great for everyone including kids. Tony's tends to get packed on the weekends so go early or else you will be waiting for a long time. Ray is also the best waiter!!

I lived in Garden Oaks off 610-N for years before Tony's came to the neighborhood. Sure, we had some favorite Mexican and TexMex restaurants and drove to The Cadillac, Doneraki, Spanish Flower, Mexicatessen and others for our weekly ( or more often ) ' fix '. All of those places are good in their own right and I return to each of them occasionally for that something they offer that one of the others may not. If you want to go add your graffiti to an already completely covered wall, go to the Cadillac, etc. But, Tony's has it all, less graffiti ( thankfully ). No matter what you and your friends, family or associates choose from the menu, it will be fresh, tasty, very well prepared and presented, hot and literal eye-candy. Their salsas and tostado chips, the main stay of all Mexican restaurants are classic, margaritas and other cocktails well made, service is as good as or generally better than some of the other and certainly the newer places and the prices are quite acceptable for the serving portion sizes. I saw some earlier reviews which bothered me, especially two which complained of very poor service and allowing a patron to leave after consuming too much liquor. When Tony is in the house, I guarantee that neither of these problems would occur. Since the staff needs more consumer awareness in the serving of liquor, I am going to make it a point to tell Tony next time I'm in. Don't let long lines on Friday nights and disgrundled patrons that complain about french fries at McDonalds discourage you from trying one of the BEST Mexican/TexMex restaurants in the Great State of Texas ! Here's to Tony's Margaritas - Chuy's, Cadillac, Cyclone's beware ! The not-so-" New Kid " in town has surpassed all of you in that department . . . T.P.

The not-so-" New Kid " in town has surpassed all of you in that department . . . T.P.

Pros: Great food - some of the best in Houston

Cons: He needs to keep adding new seating capacity and staff due to tremendous growth

.

I have been to Tony's MANY times for lunch and drinks and dinners. On my most recent visit I witnessed something that makes me think twice about returning. The staff and owner allowed an extremely intoxicated patron to leave the premises and get into her corvette and leave. She was stumbling, falling out of her chair, etc. She pulled into traffic and went over the esplanade on Ella TWICE and almost caused a 3 car accident on her way out. The staff was standing in the parking lot laughing after she left! Please have a designated driver if you go to Tony's - they are very irresponsible and overserve and don't take it seriously.

Pros: Great Margaritas

Cons: Service can be haphazard

.

Tony's has probably the best Mexican food in Houston, but the service by far is bad and it seems to be getting worse everytime we go. Too many customers and not enough waiters.

This is a great place that serves great mexican dishes with a great customer service as they tend to your dining needs promptly. They serve a mean guacamole salad as well. They serve two different types of salsa with chips which are very good. If you are in a big hurry avoid Friday nights as you will have some wait time unless you are lucky to get their early enough!

We have been going to Tony's for years and have come to expect wonderful food, drinks, and fun whenever we stop in for a bite to eat. The enchiladas and fish tacos are both fabulous! The margaritas are top-notch and the staff is SUPER friendly! Our 2 year old son has enjoyed every visit and made many friends at this establishment. We highly recommend it to everyone we meet!!

I am not the first, nor will I be the last to tell you that Tony's has without a doubt the best Margarita's in town. The Tony's parilla is always a winner and the shrimp enchiladas and charro beans are fantastic. Don't go on a Friday night if you are in a hurry, because the wait is long, but worth it. I used to eat here at least once a week when I lived in the area, now I drive over 20 a couple of times a month just to get my fix. The best Margs and the best mexican food in town.

The frozen margarita's at Tony's are definately the best in Houston. Friday nights at Tony's is like a big party. We have been going to Tony's on a regular basis for over 8 years. Ray is their best waiter.

Pros: Margarita's, Shrimp Diablo's, Chicken Fajita's

Tony's has a fantastic Margarita! Don't have more than one without a designated driver! I can never finish my meal because the chips and super spicy salsa are addictive! You can never go wrong with a selection from the grill. I have never tried the quail, but the beef chicken and shrimp selections are wonderful. The flavor is better than most Tex-Mex restaurants.

I am often eating at Tecate which is just across the street from Tony's. I have been wanting to try out Tony's for quite a while and finally did last night. Tony's is crowded and the atmosphere is good if you are in a party mood. If you rather just have a relaxed time and some food, maybe the place isn't the best. The food is OK, actually better than average, but the prices are a little too high for what you get. The service is slow, but it is bearable. I would return to Tony's for a night out with friends drinking margarita's, but for some good Mexican food I will keep going to Tecate.

I admit, I'm a regular, but this is my favorite Tex-Mex place in Houston. The staff is SO friendly and the food is delicious too. Nothing fancy, but really good. The margaritas are outstanding!!! Yes they are strong so be careful, but they are tasty. It's one place where I feel equally welcome in a large group (which is most of the time) or just at a small table.

The food here is very good. The Margaritas are GREAT. The service is good and the crowd is very festive. You might wait a while for a table, but just visit the bar and you won't mind the wait.

A native Houstonian for 34 years, I know Tex-Mex. Some are dependable, some not quite so Tex-Mex. BUT......for a single restaurant to please on so many levels, time and again....... Alas, Tony's is real Tex-mex, with real good margaritas, great service (the whole family pitches in), and contrary to popular belief----a great place to bring kids because, well, everone else does.
For atmosphere, great creamy jalapeno sauce, and killer, not-so Tex-Mex, it's Chuy's (Westheimer location!) For fru-fru prices and people watching, it's El Tiempo. But for great food (with a bit of a wait!), it's Tony's.
