.

During the last weekend of September, the annual Portland Oregon Polish Festival expects 12,000 attendees to join in native music, dancing, home-made food and imported beer. Many participants wear their colorful dress from various regions and epochs of Poland. The festival has been recognized as the largest authentic ethnic celebration in the western United States.

Exuberant festival goers flood the area around the Polish Church and Polish Library, both about a hundred years old. The neighborhood has long been a focal point for immigrants fleeing tyranny in, and oppression by neighboring countries, of their native Poland. This is an opportunity to rejoice and share their rich cultural heritage.

It is my favorite event of the year, I enjoy dressing up and dressing my kids in our folk costumes, watching fabulous folk dance groups and just mingle with the crowd of people who have ties with Poland or just like to hang out in a nice atmosphere and eat great food.
It is also a wonderful community building event, with over 200 volunteers working during the festival.
