Casual Korean dining at its best! 8st. Kitchen is the latest Korean Restaurant development in NYC's West Village and the brainchild of 15 year restaurant veterans, and under the same management as 3rd Floor Cafe, Korean lounge in Murray Hill NYC by Jungmin Kim. The space is contemporary, casual with a sleek, retro-chic design yet still very warm and inviting. 8st Kitchen is set to open the first week of November 2009 and will feature moderately priced, authentic, small plate, Korean dishes with an assortment of carefully selected wines and beers. Open for dinner only in its first few months, 8St. Kitchen is the perfect place for groups, as most of their tables can accommodate up to 6 diners. Check back with us for final dates of the Grand Opening and be the first to taste the best Korean food the West Village has to offer! Reservations are not required, but recommended

This Greenwich Village Korean restaurant serves authentic fare that?s on par with any spot in Koreatown. Traditional dishes like savory pan-fried Korean pancakes (jon), noodles (gook soo), rice (bap) and grilled and roasted meats (gui) all cost around $10, while the few pricier items, like pork belly (bo ssam), ring in at around $20. The restaurant doesn?t load your table with all the complimentary sides served at other Korean joints, instead making the main courses the real focus--though the industrial yet rustic decor does steal some of the spotlight. Minimalistic metal accents, sleek wood furnishings, a faux bois wall treatment and dim lighting provide a constant reminder that this sexy spot is on 8th Street?even if the food tastes like 32nd Street.

Key Points

  • West Village Korean Restaurant
  • Good For Groups
  • Moderately Priced, Great Food

The Inside Scoop

  1. What to Drink - Order an OB, a Korean pale-ale, with your meal, or sip it at the restaurant's small bar.
  2. What to Eat - Be sure to try a savory pan-fried Korean pancake; they're the house specialty and come in four varieties, but the hae mool pa jon (green onion, shell fish and squid) is the standout.
  3. Fun Fact - The manager and chef are both veterans of Koreatown restaurant/lounge 3rd Floor Cafe.

Ratings_icons Excellent service and delicious food

Great restaurant experience - service that is incredibly attentive (more so than any other restaurant I've visited recently) and you get the feeling that the restaurant staff actively wants to make you a "regular"
The food was yummy - I am not an expert in Korean cuisine, but everything we had was delicious. Additionally, the ambiance is really unique: hip and trendy but also really soothing.
The cocktails and beers are quite pricey (especially given how reasonable the food prices are) so that's the one drawback I'd note.
The many positives outweigh that one negative, so I'll definitely be returning.

Pros: Attentive service, reasonable prices, great food & ambiance

Cons: Expensive drinks

I went here on Fri night with a bunch of my girlfriends for a night out. We ordered a bunch of different dishes and split them all - we like to try as much as we can when we hit up a new place! Everything we had was fresh and delicious - some of the best Korean food we've ever had! The staff was really friendly and anytime we didn't know something on the menu they explained it, making it easier to pick out dishes we know we'd love. Defs going back!!!

If you want a break from the crowds and the traditional Ktown korean restaurant scene, you should definitely check out 8th St. Kitchen. The food, staff, and service was excellent and beyond all expectations and the warm yet chic interior will not disappoint. Can't wait for our next 8th st meal!!!"
