I had been taking my two dogs to this kennel for almost a year. Initially the service was great. However, I noticed they started having more business and the conditions of the place and the service deteriorated. The first instance of disease was when I received an email notifying me that my dog had been exposed to an oral wart virus. The virus can lay dormant for up to 6 months so I have been checking my dogs mouths ever since. I understood and assumed this was an isolated event... but now I was just informed that there was a Giardia outbreak. That was the straw that broke the camel??s back. Two days prior to bringing my dogs to their kennel we had their annual Vet checkups $600 all in and the vet gave them a clean bill of health. When I explained my frustration to the owner her reply was "it is only $50 exam per dog". I was outraged because I trusted them with the care of my dogs (my babies) and had already spent $500 with them for their stay. She did not offer to do anything to ameliorate the situation and totally brushed off my complaint. The dog who had giardia was the owners puppy!
I live in Venice and have to travel A LOT for work. I have boarded Charlie with a lot of kennels over the years, and Del Rey Kennels is the best-priced deal in town, especially for extended boarding.
Not only is Del Rey Kennels the cheapest? it is a really big, clean space, and the staff is friendly and professional! And Charlie (my ten-year old Dachshund/Chihuahua mix) loves it and has already made lots of other doggie friends of all shapes and sizes. That means I dont have to worry about her even when I am far away...
I recently boarded my 2 year old Rottweiler Tara at Del Rey Kennels for several nights, and could not be more pleased with the service. The owner and staff were extremely friendly, competent, and responsive to my questions and concerns. Tara is a big girl (100 lbs), and can be a lot to handle, and I was favorably impressed with the degree of control with which the owner and staff seemed to manage her. I also received video updates of Tara playing with lots of other dog friends, which made me feel good while I was away. Tara slept for two days straight when I got her back home (worn out from playing) and I will definitely take her back to Del Rey for play dates and extended boarding when work takes me away the next time. Thank you, Del Rey Kennels!
Some of the employees here seemed great, but after just a few visits I had a bad feeling about this place. I dropped my dog off one day, and the employee asked her name and if she had been here before. Since he was supposedly constantly supervising my dog a few days earlier, I thought this was a red flag. As far as I know none of these employees are dog trainers or know how to discipline dogs, especially groups of dogs. I noticed after a few weeks bad behaviors my young dog picked up on and that she had become scared of other dogs when she used to be friendly. On walks she would yelp and run away or bark at other dogs when she used to sit and give the other dog kisses. When I confronted them about my concerns, I got no where. The owner said she would call me back later that evening. I never got a call back, but a TEXT MESSAGE from someone else . I'm sorry but I'm not 14 and don't think dealing with a client's concerns with a text message is at all professional. I naively thought it didn't take much for someone to supervise my dog. But now I will definitely be more picky with the places' credentials. Hopefully you can learn from my mistake!
My Boston Terrier mix is high maintenance to say the very least. She has a ton of allergies and a special diet with no treats allowed! So needless to say I am very weary about where I leave my dog when I have to go out of town. But Thanks to Del Rey Kennels I feel 100% assured that my little baby is all good. They made sure that she was only fed the food that I left for her and that all the friendly staff knew not to give her anything else! They took extra special care of her during her stay at Del Rey, so much so that she didn't want to leave when I picked her up. Thanks everybody at Del Rey Kennels, you guys rock!!!!!
Pros: 100% safe, clean and friendly
Timber stayed at Del Rey Kennels over the holidays. Great place and great staff! Facility is big, open, clean and fun staff that plays with the dogs.
Finally a dog kennel on the Westside I can trust.
Del Rey Kennels is truly home away from home for Lucy! She didn't notice that we had left her and she was so happy when we picked her up! During our trip the staff at Del Rey Kennels emailed photo's of Lucy playing with her new friends. We were really pleased that the facility is kept so clean. There is no doubt, our next vacation will include a pampering trip for Lucy back at Del Rey Kennels!
Pros: Top notch kennel!!
I spent 9 years struggling to find petsitters because I didn't think a kennel would be a place my dog would be happy. Del Rey Kennels proved me wrong. Totally different, they treat each dog as if it were their own - responding to each of their individual needs. The staff is so nice, and for once I'm comfortable when I have to go away and leave my dog Daisy. She is so happy there! Highly recommended.
Pros: Great staff, my dog loves it there
I leave my dog at Del Rey kennels whenever I have a long day at work or a weekend out of town. It's so nice to have a caring staff take care of my dog, Moxie, when I'm so busy. The kennel is very conveniently located, super clean and best of all, the staff & Georgie are very sweet to my dog. She even sends me videos of my dog during the day! I would recommend this place to any dog owner who wants to know that their dog is well taken care of while they're away.
Pros: Conveniently located, nice staff, & CLEAN!!!
I got the name of Del Ray Kennels from a friend of mine and I'm so happy I did! I have 3 dogs, and they are really happy every time I pull into the parking lot. Georgie and Emily and Mack really make the dogs feel special and I love that I get a "report card" on their time there. It's extremely convenient to LAX, and the West Side. I know my dogs are happy we found Del Ray Kennels.
Pros: Great Staff, Wonderful Facilities, Loving Owner
These guys are great! I left my dog Nala (a rescue mix of boxer and lab) with them for a night. I got a call a couple hours later from one of the staff telling me that She had been fed was playing with one of the staffers and because she was being so good, She got a treat! I can't believe they called to check in with me! If you're looking for a safe and special place to leave your K9 this is it!
Pros: so much love for my dog
Tyson my Golden Retriever just got back from Del Rey Kennels for the holidays and I must say they are fantastic! I called last minuet in a panic when my walker fell through and they took him right away. From the moment I spoke with Emily I felt confident he would be in good hands. There is so much space for them to play and it is super clean. They even sent me pictures and facebook videos of him playing catch with everyone. The owners are truly amazing and you can tell they absolutely have a love for dogs.
Pros: Super Friendly, Clean, Owers love Dogs, trustworthy
In a pinch for the holidays I was forced to board my 2 year old, rescue, half pit half lab who had never dealt well with being left alone. The kennel was clean and bright with a great vibe that Parker instantly picked up on. My fears were relieved when I received a video of him playing with the group just that evening! When I picked him up they had a print out that let me know what he did while he was there. I have since returned for daycare a few times a week and Parker has never been happier! A travel nightmare turned in to a blessing, we really lucked out in finding this place!
Pros: Dog loving staff, low rates, report card
Cons: He doesn't want to leave.
Although the kennel has only just opened my dog boarded for three nights and I found the staff very friendly and it was quite obvious when I picked my dog up that he had a great time . I would certainly board my dog there again.
Pros: Courteous staff and congenial atmosphere to board any dog
