Ladies, we search high and low for the best person to tend to our tresses; we are willing to spend big bucks to have luxurious hair color and low to no maintenance hair, right? Look no further, I have found the ultimate guy in Boston. I had never been happy with my highlights, they always seemed to look like I colored my whole head with a single color as it grew out and the color always turned an ugly shade.

I have found the ultimate colorist/stylist in Boston, Thomas Anthony. My color is unbelievable, multi-dimensional foiling with 5 colors and the highlights actually are down to the roots. My drab color now looks rich and above all else Natural. My haircut is so incredible that it literally takes me less than 15 minutes in the morning, I sleep a little later now!!! I had never had a dry cut before but I can say that I will never have it cut any other way again.

Dressed in a suit; dynamic personality and above all else attentive to my needs, what more could a girl want? Thomas Anthony is quite simply ... The Best.

Every time I have called to make an appointment at Emerge I have felt as though the receptionist was doing me a favor and that the individual who will be cutting my hair is also doing me a favor. No thank you! I am a very reasonable and down to earth person. I am just looking for a quality hair cut and a positive experience. It is hands down the worst salon I have ever been to. Needless to say, I am never going back. I have never written a review in my life, but I felt as though this experiene has required one.

I have never tried any of the spa treatments at Emerge. However, I have had my hair cut there and had a great experience. I loved the stylist and found the staff to be very accommodating. The decor was modern and sophisticated. I would definitely visit again. It has a very trendy spa vibe.

I had such high hopes when I made my appointment at Emerge Spa for a body treatment during my stay in Boston to look at colleges with my teenage son. What a complete let-down this place was. It was one of those places that looks pretty when you walk in, but the good feeling completely fades as you are given little in the way of friendly service. The reception was as cold as can be. No actual welcome. No "we're glad you're here"....no pleasantries at all. Just a stony escort up to another floor where the women's locker room is located, cursory instructions on where stuff was and then a departure. Plus, did i say COLD? The locker room was too cold for comfortably changing clothes, the amenities were sorely lacking -- there was no face cleanser, no makeup remover, no facial lotion but the towels were neatly rolled and stacked. That meant you could feel free to take a shower, but your mascara would be smeared down your face and then your face would feel tight and dry because there was nothing for women to apply to their sensitive skin unless they had ignored the spa's admoniton to 'just bring themselves' and had brought it with them There was a steam room and a sauna , but the steam room was of the most basic, tile and glass form as to feel like a shower stall at the local "Y". Depressing. The 'lounge' where one waits for treatment was, again too cold, and the seating was anything but comfortable. Did i mention that it was cold ! And the lighting was too bright for such a room, and the zen music was too loud. The ubiquitous offerings of fruit and tea were there, but looked a might dusty. And, sadly, there was no refreshing pitcher of 'spa water' (you know, what you find at most first rate spas that is flavored with cucumbers, or lemons or orange...etc.) The dispenser for hot water for the selection of teas was empty of water and I had to refill the device myself in order to make myself a cup of tea to warm myself before slipping out of my clothes in front of a stranger. And, it wasn??t as if they??d been so busy that all the hot water had been used up ?? I saw only one other person awaiting a treatment when I was there.

I filled out the little questionnaire that was provided in the ??lounge?? and made a request that the treatment be provided with minimal conversation. Not an odd request, there are those who come to a spa in the mood for chattiness, and others who wish to submerge themselves in the soothing and quiet music to escape. The service itself (a turkish scrub) was adequate, though it wasn't what I had orginaly wished to receive, and the technician kept trying to chat me up about myself and life and the day, in spite of my request for little conversation.

I might also mention here that days I had tried to have my service upgraded to a 90 minute treatment that would be more indulgent and more profitable for them..but they couldn't be bothered to make the necessary arrangements to have the right service esthetician there for me on that day. Again, Customer Service truly is terrible there. Also bizarre was the fact that i had emailed and phoned to confirm my appointment and they still got both my first and last name completely wrong -- how they processed my credit card without that is a mystery to me. And yet, the most mind-boggling thing about my visit is that i told them prior to my visit that I was a writer interested in taking note of their facilities for a beauty book that i am currently writing. Needless to say, they won't even get a mention in my book. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place.

Stay away. They really pressure you into buying stuff you don't want. Really expensive stuff. When I didn't buy it, they just charged my card anyway. I have been fighting to get a refund. Plus they are super expensive. It was like $145 for a facial and wasn't even that good. Awful experience.

I would give Emerge a much better review based on decor and cleanliness as well as customer service, but what inevitably brought it down was my stylist. I saw Tomas Anthony for a woman's cut a few months ago. I've waited this long to write a review because I was hoping the initial awkward, unflattering haircut he gave me would eventually grow out to be fabulous and manageable...it hasn't at all. Plain and simple, it's horrible.
How can I express how much my haircut has affected my confidence? It has depleted it. It is not at all what I asked for. I have tried so many different techniques when styling to make it work and it just looks ridiculous.
Tom Anthony basically gave me a layer of bangs around the entire top of my head. It looks like I have two different haircuts. Even my friends have asked me what the hell is going on with my hair. I went to another hairstylist last month to see if he could work any magic and I was told I would have to wait another six months before this awkward foolish looking layer would grow out enough. SIX MONTHS! I'm distressed to say the least.
On top of the disaster sitting on my head, this guy struck me as totally unprofessional. When I expressed to him that maybe he was making the top too thick and too short he didn't listen. He said that he was the expert. When he was finished and I expressed I wasn't completely satisfied with the cut, he offered no apologies and didn't handle the situation with any tact. He made no effort to hide the fact that he was offended.
He kept talking about his previous jobs negatively and said some borderline vulgar things. I can appreciate a stylist building a rapport with their client, but honestly TMI! Too much information.

I wish I never went to this stylist. I would however recommend Emerge to others because the Spa and Salon were actually quite nice. Just do yourself a favor and steer clear of Tom.

Robert Nazzaro, is the best stylist I've ever encountered. I've been going to hime for many years and his styles never get old they just get better. His hair cuts always leave me feeling like I'm ready for a vouge photo shoot, not to mention how pampered he makes me feel. I constantly get compliments on my highlights and low lights. He's a master when it comes to foiling my hair. . Robert always knows what to do to give me just the right balance of highlights. If your lookiing for a master stylist he's it. I finally don't have to look any further i'm staying with him for life. If you want to feel like a queen I recommend Robert !!

I've been going to Emerge for the past 3 years to see Alla. I've had my eyebrows wax at many places before and she is the best! She is awesome! If your looking to great waxing or facial done you have to go see Alla. I would recommend her to anyone.

I'm the kind of person who has kept her hair the same for preetty much her whole life..hardly ever go for more than a trim...I was ready for a change. I wasnt exactly sure what I wanted and so going somewhere with people I could trust to know what would fit my face and my style best was really important to me.

Sally Drinkwater was the stylist who put all my fears at ease! She almost seemed to have been reading my mind the whole time through! I ended up going with something that was much more funky and interesting than my old hair but still fitting for me.

She knew the PERFECT red color to put as highlights my dark brown hair (I had never dyed my hair previously) and the perfect cut. DEFINITELY planning on going back--was absolutely worth it and Ive only gotten great feedback from friends! I dont have even ONE negative thing to say about the place..Sally is the best! thank you!!!

What a find! Anna was the best my hair has seen in years. I had my hair highlighted and cut by Anna, it was the best my hair has looked, and the greatest thing is, that I can REPRODUCE it at home!!!.\r
She took the time with me, gave me ALL kinds of pointers for me to do with my hair at home, and I can do it! I was happy to set up my next appt with her. She is only there 3 weeks a month, and works in another city for one week. The salon is beautiful, too. And I had the best shampoo also, Marisa gave me such a great shampoo, and head massage, it felt great! I look great! Thanks, I feel so pretty!

Jeffrey does an amazing highlight especially for blondes!\r
\r
I have been going to another posh Newbury St. salon for years and recently saw Jeffrey at Emerge. He had won best of Boston in 2007 but I went on the suggestion of another stylist. I have to say, he did an unbelievable job of highlighting my hair. I absolutely loved it and so did my husband. I never thought I'd change my highlight hairdresser but now I definitely will. He also was very fun to be around and it was a great experience overall.

While the decor of the spa area is very inviting and relaxing, that's about the only thing going for this spa. This front desk staff is RUDE and pretty incompentent, and no one seems to know how the process works. WORD TO THE WISE: Make sure you call and confirm your appointment and details before showing up, and once you check in. I scheduled a basic manicure with a hand exfoliation ($30 + $15 extra for exfoliation) but they put it in the system as a Delux manicure, which is almost twice as expensive. I didn't verify this when I checked in and got stuck paying for the delux manicure, since the manicurist used parafin instead of exfoliant. \r
\r
I've been to plenty of spas on Newbury and this one is simply not worth the cost.

I went to Emerge the day after a terrible experience at another salon.....my hair was orange with a million other colors mixed into it. I went in as Jefferys last appointment and he spent a long time fixing my hair color, he stayed past the time they closed to make sure that I could walk around in public again and the color came out great. He was really nice and I immediately felt as though I was in good hands, I will definitly be seeing him again. The salon and spa areas were beautiful, I highly reccommend coming here, especially for hair.

Friday the 13th around 6:00 in the evening I came into Emerge for some info about the services they offer. I stood at the desk for at least 10 min and all the girls behing the desk were just standing around, no one asked if I needed any help. I looked around at the products and then asked for some info about services. I was handed a brochure and that was all. I was looking through it when a young lady who worked there came from upstairs and came right over to ask if I needed help with anything. She was SO POLITE & PROFESSIONAL, she introduced herself to me (her name was Christine) and proceeded to explain the different services and asked what I was interested in having done. She even gave me a wonderful tour! This young lady was very helpful & even took the time to explain the product lines to me. OF ALL THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE DESK CHRISTINE WAS THE ONLY ONE TO HELP ME!!! I did overhear one of the other girls speak very rudely to a client so I recommend when you go to Emerge ask for Christine to help book your appointments!

If you can get past the horrible front desk, you might have a good experience. Twice in two visits they have made errors in my appointment time. Once they had made it for three hours later than I asked and once they made it for a completely different day. I know it could not have been me since I asked ""is there anything available today?"" They said yes, come in, and then the desk said my appointment was for two weeks from today. In addition, the desk people seem to have no service training. I have to be in suits all week and like to dress down on my days off. If I do this there, they certainly treat me differently! Very Snobby!\r
Lastly, for the first time in my life, I had my eyelids burned during a eyebrow wax! I had to go to a wedding shower the next day looking like I was punched in both eyes! It took three weeks for them to rebate my credit card. And in all fairness, they did send me a gift card for $50 to try them again.\r
It is not worth the prices that seem to be climbing each month!

Emerge deserves its reputation! The receptionists are friendly and polite, and very helpful with booking services. They'll give you the inside scoop on the strengths of each stylist, and are frank about prices and services. No pretense here, just incredible customer service.\r
\r
Linda did an amazing job on my color. I'm a brunette, and came in with a brassy, old highlight job that washed me out. I also had an old ""razor cut"" that made the ends of my hair look ""fried"". Linda hand-mixed four different ""cool browns"", and only charged me for one process (a mere $65!). I couldn't believe how fantastic I looked. She also does a great texturizing cut, sans razor, for $75, which gave my fine hair a new life without the damage.\r
\r
Linda also suggested several Kerastase treatments to help my hair, and was extremely low pressure about adding services or selling products. I said ""yes"" to a Kerastase strengthening treatment forf $35 (half off with a color service).\r
\r
While at Emerge, I also opted for a brow maintenance by Rebecca. The 2nd Floor waiting area has a complimentary spa with coffee, tea, fruit and rice cracker munchies. There is also a sauna, steam and locker room for use by any of the guests, with complimentary use of some great skin and body products (good way to try before you buy!). The waiting area was clean, elegant and quiet, and even getting a $25 brow service was an experience.\r
\r
Speaking of the brow service, Rebecca is very skilled and friendly. She will keep you talking and relaxed while taming even the most unruly brows! I will definitely book with her again.\r
\r
Finally, at the end of my experience, I received a $25 gift certificate for my next service, just for being a first-time customer.\r
\r
I have been to almost every salon on Newbury, and Emerge is the best yet. I recommend it on the highest terms possible.

I whole heartedly recommend Robert. I have long thick blonde hair. I am extremely picky about my hair and have had very bad experiences in the past (aka big chunks of hair falling out due to over processing!!) \r
I came to Robert with double processed blonde and was hesitant to change because I liked being a light blonde. He gave me what I wanted and was extremely capable when I wanted a change (as well as calm and reassuring when I was frantic and nervous in the beginning). He turned my double process into beautiful high and low lights when other stylists said there was no hope for me to ever get away from the double process. I have recommended 4 friends to him (all with different color and style hair) and they have all loved him. I TRUST HIM. He has never pushed me to do anything in 4 years, but has great solutions when I want to change.\r
\r
Also, if you want waxing....go to Alla. Wonderful woman who knows what she's doing and gets it done fast. I cant speak for the salon, but I trust Robert and Alla. \r

Once you are a client, get the stylists cell #'s so that if the front dest cant book the appointment for you, most times, the stylist will fit you in.

Emerge Spa offers excellent service for it's male clientele. The ambience and services do not jeopardize your masculinity here. From your own personal robe, slippers, and locker in the beautifully serene facility, to the fresh atmosphere and clean, crisp decor, this place is immaculate!

My daughter received a gift certificate. I accompanied her and asked the male receptionist if he could recommend a good pizza shop around the area. He replied, the pizza shops around here are more geared for the Newbury Street clientele, you would want the Mass Ave shops, the more fast food, greasy pizzas. I know I didn't appear to be rich, as I am down to earth. The service my daughter received was exceptional however, her hair was beautiful, cost 130.00 with tip 160. Little did he know, I have enough money to buy his store.

Pros: Excellent Color

Cons: Snobby male receptionist, not a welcoming feeling, need to walk in with Mink Coat on to be accepted there, kinda feeling from receptionist.

I purchased a facial for my girlfriend and really wanted to get her something nice. Emerge was everything it promised, sort of. The facial was for an hour and a half and she had a wonderful experience. I must admit, she looked fantastic afterwards. That is the good part. \r
The facial cost $150. But, that really wasn't the bad part. I was told how much it cost on the phone and I was comfortable spending that amount. When my girlfriend was done with her facial she was really pressured into buying some very expensive product. She felt uncomfortable, but said she would consider it. She never once signed anything nor took the products, but my card was charged an additional $144. So, now I have a $294 facial. Additionally, my girlfriend had a new Channel Sunglasses stolen out of her locker (she may or may not have locked it, I don't blame Emerge directly for this). The sunglasses cost $350. Now the facial is up to $644. It was really great facial...I called Emerge and I am waiting for them to contact me to refund my additional $144 in purchases. I have already stopped by once and was told that no one there could help me and that a manager would call me. No one has called. I just called again and was assured that someone would call me. I am still waiting. I highly recommend this spa if you are really wealthy.

I had a shave in the mens club by the master barber and it was actually better than the one I had in Vegas. He does the entire shave with the straight razor and didn't nick me once. Plus it was closer and lasted longer than any shave I have ever given myself. Definately an A++ as far as the other comment about the barber being rude, nothing could be farther from what I experienced.

I dropped in at emerge not knowing excatly what it was and ended up leaving with a great hair cut. The sylist was young and hip and completely down to earth. Listened to what i wanted and gave me excatly that. She didn't push any products on me. All and all it was a great experaince everyone was very nice. Teh atomophere in teh salon is a little lacking and feels like a retail store which was a little dissapointing. The price was a surprise at teh end as well I was expecting to pay a snobby Newbury St price of over 100 dollars but actually recieved a cut and blowdry for 75 all and all it was a great experaince

I have been to the salon many times and ALWAYS get exactly what I want. They do hair extensions that are out of this world! The stylists and assistants are wonderful. If your looking for a great head message with your shampoo, this is the best!

Pros: Fabulous salon

Cons: parking- what do you expect, it's in Boston

.

I found most of the staff I dealt with to be polite but the barber who cut my hair was not only rude and crass, but he gave me the worst haircut I have ever had. I would expect so much more from a high end salon. The other services they offer are fine. I would recommend you stay clear of the ""master barber"".

I had to wait an HOUR past my appointment time for my treatment. A local tv news person came in and they bumped me. I didn't catch on, but someone who works there told me. I won't be back.

This is an upscale, refined getaway from the everyday. Will not go lightly with your bank account but the personnel, service, products, and overall atmosphere are unmatched. This is truly VIP treatment for ANY service you purchase. Allana is my pick for hair stylist.
