This is quite a late review but it has been a long grieving process for me. I took my 17 month old King Charles Cavalier to K9 Playland last August while I was away for the weekend. This purebred puppy was in perfect health and completely up to date on his shots. The owner called me when I was just a few hours away from picking him up to say that "something had happened to Henry." She had a lengthy story about how he had plenty of access to water, etc, etc and that after being outside and a nap, he foamed at the mouth, had a seizure and died. She also pointed out that it's typical of the breed to have heart problems. She then took him to an emergency vet to begin autopsy process the following day. She hadn't mentioned which vet so the next morning when I attempted to find out, 3 hours went by where she didn't return my nor my mother's calls. I had to google emergency vets and call down the list to see who had my dog. I spoke at length with his regular vet at SouthPark Animal Hospital, his breeder (a top breeder in Atlanta) to discuss his family medical history--it was perfect, and had both body and tissue autopsies performed. The ONLY thing found was small lesions on his lungs which can either be indicative a heat stroke or of heart disease (he had just been checked in May for a heart murmur and such and he was only 17 months old so the chance of this being heart disease was pretty much none). I was so disgusted with the whole situation from start to finish and so heart stricken to have lost my puppy who was like a child to me that I simply couldn't face the idea of pursuing anything in court and having to face her or anyone else she employs. And no amount of money was going to bring him back. Thus I didn't sue. However I did tell every single person I come in contact with through work (I work for Charlotte Magazine) and I know that the word has spread. And today I'm taking that a step further. Don't take your pets here. I would never wish this possibility on anyone else.

Our dogs love K9 Playland. One of our dogs has a hard time warming up to people but he absolutely loves the folks that work there. When we pull up they practically drag us to the door. My recommendation is one thing, but our dogs are the best judge and they clearly love it.

You do have to be prepared that your dog will probably get scratched up some because dogs play differently from humans. My experience is that K9 keeps a good watch on the play and makes sure nothing gets out of hand. I've witnessed the interaction from the large observation window and it's a lot of sniffing, chasing, bark, jumping, rolling around and in general dog play. Our dogs - one in particular who still has lots of pup in him - usually has a couple of nicks on him but then again when he runs through our backyard and jumps in the bushes he get scratches too. I think of it as a little boy with a skinned knee.

The best part of any visit is when our dogs come home they sleep for days. Clearly they've had the time of their lives :)

So, Ive never submitted a review like this before but felt like I should. I took my dog (cocker spaniel 30lbs) to playland for grooming. When I left my dog I was told by an asociate that my charge for the groom would be 45$. I returned with a coupon and my charge was raised to 60$. I didnt say anything, I just paid the bill and gathered my pooch. That night and several days later I noticed my dog digging at her neck with her hind paw.. Thats when I noticed a huge chunk or her hair missing and bloody raw shin. Looks like either she was burned by a groomers clippers or even worse, a victim of an attack from another animal. I certainly wouldnt recomend playland. In fact, I sent a facebook plea to all my charlotte friends with animals to stay away!

At first I was a little apprehensive to bring my dog to any boarding facility from the horror stories I reviewed of other places on the web. The owner of K-9 playland is very personable and takes great care of all the aniamals you you are away. She even takes pictures of the pets playing while you are away. When i returned to pick my dog Titan up after a week long vacation, he didnt want to go home and kept trying to run back inside! I would reccomended K-9 playland to anyone and continue to bring Titan here whenever I travel.
