I recently boarded my golden retriever at Westlake Animal Hospital. Reservations were easily made and shot records were able to be sent by fax. It was clean, organized, and the staff were very gentle and friendly.

WLAH overcharges for their services. They also suggest expensive additional tests and procedures that are not necessary. I no longer go to the clinic because of this. There are other clinics in town that don't overcharge like WLAH.

WLAH is definitely the best veterinarian clinic in Austin. Everyone on the staff takes excellent care of my 2 dogs every time I come in. They have you in a room immediately ( I have never waited in the waiting room) and meeting with a doctor within 10 minutes. Just about every veterinarian they have on staff has seen my dogs at one point and every one of them was extremely knowledgeable and took every question I had seriously. I highly recommend taking your pets here.

We have been taking out pets to WLAH for a total of 17 years. They have happily accepted new members and guided us through the pain of losing our old girls. I can't imagine going anywhere else.

Pros: Kind, honest, compassionate, not going anywhere, close to me

Cons: a little pricey

I have mixed feelings about this place. The prices are insane. If you take your pet in be prepared to spend over $200 a visit or more (mostly more) .... I've taken my pets in several times for a specific reason and left with a HUGE bill for ""tests"" they needed to run for some unknown reason. Communication in bad. Example: I took my pet in because he had runny stool for about three days. I figured they would just test a stool sample but they went ahead and rambled off all of these things they needed to ""test"" for bloodwork needed to be done (EVERY TIME YOU GO IN FOR ANYTHING!!) and several other tests. His tests were normal and they really couldn't find anything wrong but they charged me $400 for that which I felt was insane. Every time I take my animal in for anything the same thing happens. We wont be going back. I know they care about animals and are kind but their prices and the way they just rack up a bill isn't going to be tolerated by me anymore. Oh, and after paying $400 to not really know what was wrong with him, he came home covered in his own feces. Nice.

I have been bringing my pets and my boss's pets to Westlake animal hospital for 13 years. The staff have seen us through good and bad times with our beloved pets. \n\nWhenever I walk into this clinic I feel at home with friends. The times that I have had to put a pet to sleep there they were with open arms and tears.\n\nI love this clinic and all that work there. I would highly recommend Westlake Animal Hospital!

I had the best visit on Thursday at this office....I was a nervous wreck about bringing my cat in, and they handled her so well.\r\nThe assistant, and Dr. Rains were so sweet, and took their time with me and my pet. I never felt rushed, and we covered ALOT of information that I needed to know about what my cat was going through.\r\nThey also made sure and explained what was truly neccessary - and what I could hold off on, since I was on a budget.--(very much appreciated that part)\r\nThe assistant also called the next day to make sure my cat was handling her meds ok...\r\nI've finally found a great vet in my area, I would recommend this office anyday.\r\n

Be very careful about using this facility for anything other than annual vaccinations. Aside from the expense, this practice falls very short on getting an accurate medical diagnosis on your pet. I have left with only huge bills (with procedures they did not even tell me they were doing) along with animals that do not get well. I have been passed to several different doctors all running up bills with no clear diagnosis. I was left wondering what on earth am I putting my pets through with their inability to agree, diagnose and treat. Do your pet a favor and find another vet!

Everyone is great with my cat- some places in the past had been a little rough! I have seen several of the vets and they have all been very good. I would recommend them all

Yes- they are not cheap but you get what you pay for. They are easily the best in Austin (and my friend is a tech at another clinic- and she agrees) This place is where I ended up having to go after my normal Vet couldn't help my pup anymore, it cost more, but they diagnosised my pup with attisons disease and had him feeling better in no time. My normal vet hadn't figured it out after 5 weeks! They have a bunch of vets on staff and they all worked together to help my dog. The wait room is really nice and Dr. Polvino even called me at home a week after to check on my pup! I'd go back in a heartbeat and would tell anyone if they want the best for their dogs to go here!

This is my first review. Although the staff is very friendly and seemed to genuinely care for my pet, it did not seem clean. My pet was uncomfortable and the staff had a hard time taking a draw, making the situation worse, and making ME uncomfortable. They were unable to test with the size of the draw they were able to get, thus making my visit counter-productive. I feel that the exam was not nearly thorough enough, yet rather costly. My pet's symptoms have since become worse, and will not bring her back to this location.

Like others have said, the place is charming, and most of the people are nice (with a couple of glaring exceptions)... but my experience with vet care and the buisness end was mixed to very bad.\r\n\r\nBe prepared to spend A LOT... and don't think that equals excellent or outstanding care. It doesn't.\r\n\r\nWith one of my animals, after spending $$$ to get a diagnosis, a clear treatment plan was not communicated and my animal continued to decline till I took it to a specialist.\r\n\r\nOh, and if you have questions about your bill, be prepared to be insulted by the administrative people.\r\n\r\nBut if you have lots to spend and just need vacinations or easy fixes, you'll probably love the place.

Adorable clinic, receptionist and techs great, friendly to pets. Everyone's got a wonderful bedside manner. These people like pets. But here's the problem: misdiagnoses, pawning your pets off on newbie vets, and bills that don't make sense. Nice does not necessarily equal competent, unfortunately.\r\n\r\nI have had 2 misdiagnoses of my pet there for problems that were extremely obvious to other vets. And, even to me. When they were making the diagnosis, I was thinking, ""??? That doesn't sound right."" I even questioned them about the diagnosis during the exam. This has led to additional pain for my pet, and expense for me. While my pet was ultimately okay, one misdiagnosis in particular really lost us a great deal of time that exacerbated the problem, which was quite serious.\r\n\r\nI once went over a $500 bill for a procedure (unrelated to the above), and found myself being billed for a laser, standard surgery, and an endoscopic procedure. I said, ""What's the endoscope being used for?"" And then I said, ""is this thing being cut off or lasered off?"" The tech couldn't answer my questions, and ultimately came back embarassed, with a greatly revised bill. But what if I hadn't aggressively gone over the bill with them????\r\n\r\nI would only use this clinic IF: 1) you can choose a vet that you like, you trust this vet implicitly and agree with his/her diagnoses, and the clinic makes sure you actually GET this vet when you visit, and 2) you review the bills carefully!!!!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

My husband and his family have brought their pets to Westlake for years and years. We've been taking our cats there since the early 1990's, and we've always had a good experience. The staff is friendly, caring & well trained. We usually see Drs. Wensel or Asbury, and they always explain all available options, and we've never felt pressured to choose the more expensive treatment.\tThere are busy times of the year -- there are a lot of kittens to care for in the early summer, so we try to take care of our routine care during other times -- but they have always been there for emergencies. Westlake isn't the least expensive vet care in town, but it is a wonderful value, and it's been worth every penny. I can't praise them enough!

Pros: parking, quality of care, hours

Cons: a bit pricey-still an excellent value

The staff is very helpful and knowledgible. They were able to diagnose my dogs problem in a quick and friendly manner. The only downside to this pet hospital is perhaps the price. I thought they were a little on the expensive side. With that said, they did resolve my pets issue in one visit.

PROS: Friendly and knowledgible
CONS: A little on the expensive side

Every member of the staff at the feline center is amazing. We got an appointment quickly when our cat was sick. The receptionist, tech and the vet talked to us forever about our concerns, and called us back immediately when we called with questions after the appointment. They even have ""kitty sitter"" DVD playing in the lobby.

Westlake Animal Hospital is my vet of choice. They are friendly, informed, and best of all, they treat my dog with just as much love and affection as I do!

First off when I called Westlake Animal Hospital I was put on hold for almost 10 minutes and every time someone picked up the phone they kept putting me back on hold. I hung up and called back and they informed me that it would cost me well over $100 to get my cat's shots and an extra $17 if I wanted to drop her off in the monring and pick her up at lunch. When I said I would have to call back the girl was very rude and practically hung up on me. Ridiculous!
