My business requires me to travel extensively East of the Mississippi. While in Kannapolis, I came across the most adorable restaurant. It is an historic stone building close to the research center. It has become my new fav place to go when I am within 30 miles of it. The food is like no where else. No dreary chain restaurant food here. The servers state that everything is made from scratch and it really tastes that way. I have tried many of the appetizers, they are very generous portions. A person could make a meal of just them. Be sure to try the tomato basil soup and the escargot. The entrees are not only beautiful and unique but exceptionally tasty. I haven't had a dessert that wasn't to die for yet. The pumpkin cheesecake is the best. Then there is the extensive wine list. I found my fav and come back to it all the time and the prices are very reasonable. It's a place with great atmosphere, great food, great entertainment, great wine. If you are tired of the same old, same old, give Old Stone Vino a try, you won't be sorry.

Old Stone Vino is the best place to eat, drink and enjoy live music in the CLT area! The wine list is wonderful, the food is excellent and reasonably priced. They have music every night and when we went I really enjoyed the musician. The dining rooms are quaint and decorated in a fun way. This is our favorite place to eat. We drive from Uptown Charlotte on a regular basis just to enjoy a glass of wine or a view of the train passing through Kannapolis.

Also in response to Julie W's review. I recommend you try Old Stone Vino again. They have been open a while now and have perfected their style. If your Shiraz wasn't good, undoubtedly you selected the cheapest one, Cheap shiraz is weak. With Shiraz you really get what you pay for. And also many large winemakers are going to screw top wines. Screw tops are more hygenic and prevent oxidation. If you don't know what oxidation does to wine, then you shouldn't be reviewing a wine bar.

Old Stone Vino is housed in an amazing 1930s house that has been restored to glory by Mrs. Hanson and brought to life by her restaurant. Dining here is a delightful experience, where you can escape for a moment with a glass of wine and a bowl of soup ( do yourself a favor and try the tomato soup- it is far from mundane). Every dish I have ever had at OSV has been unique and every experience has been a special moment to retreat from the ordinary. Also, for the caliber the food is very affordable.Again- try the tomato soup!

We started our dinner with a three cheese plate. We chose the 2-year aged cheddar, a brie and the apple cinnamon cheese. The cheeses had obviously been pre-cut as the sides of the cheese had that special ??left-out-too-long? crust. It came with a few flat breads to eat the huge wedges of cheese with.
We also ordered a bottle of wine. We chose an Australian Shiraz in the $20-$30 price range. It came with a screw top. It tasted terribly watered down (not the restaurants fault, just a mediocre wine).
Intrigued by the prospect of Tapas, my husband and I ordered two items from that menu: The Cuban panini and the loaded mini potatoes. We also ordered the beer brat flat bread pizza and a side of roasted veggies.
The pizza is the size of a sheet of printer paper. It's tiny and cut into four pieces. It tasted okay.. the caramelized onions were a particularly nice touch.
The Cuban was not served Tapas style at all. It was one large sandwich, not cut for sharing. The chef had a heavy hand with the cumin on that sandwich. The pork was sliced thick and was a bit dry.
The potatoes were an absolute abortion. Three mini potatoes on a doily lined plate. The potatoes were slimy ?? as if coming out of water. The toppings were most horrific. One had a warm sour cream. One had some ham. One had a thick pesto-like topping, but it was very thick and heavy on the garlic.
Our roasted vegetables? A pile of steamed broccoli. When we asked the waiter why we got steamed broccoli when we ordered roasted vegetables he told us ??they were cooked in an oven.? He can only have meant a microwave oven.
Far from being a fun evening of wine and tapas... our dinner at Old Stone Vino left us disappointed.
