These 2 doctors are NOT in this business for the pets. They are lazy and not performing adequate medicine for your loved 4 legged kids. Bad experiences numerous times. I had brought my cat in for a hurt paw, and Dr Tesar barely looked at it, and didn't do any general exam, even though the charge was for an exam. My cat wasn't getting better, so I came in to see Dr Dilday, and he blew me off. I had to ASK for medication. He offered to do an exray before he even touched my cats paw.
aI was very disappointed by the care here. Everyone else was very kind, but these 2 doctors are a JOKE!! I took my cat to another hospital where they performed an actual full exam, told me my cat had a fractured tooth that was probably also hurting him, palpated his paw, and found a foreign object in it!! Seems like this should have been discovered at the first visit. If not the first, then the second. It was just a waste of money and poor medicine.

There are two duplicate entries for this clinic for some reason on CitySearch, but I read a rant about it, which was criticized.

I verified from credible sources that the clinic's head, Dr. Randy Tesar was disciplined by the State Veterinary Medicine board twice.

In 1993, he was fined $2,000 and put on a two year probation for permitting an unauthorized personnel to perform surgery.

In 2006, he was fined $750 for records violation.

The Animal Medical Clinic is also named as defendant twice. March 2002 and February 2006. The February 2006 is logged as "Civil Negligence"

The 1993 incident is very concerning.

Dr. Dilday is one of the most caring vets I've ever encountered.

i have taken many generations of animals there- dogs, cats, rodents... they have all been treated so well as have I through out the years. They have had some hit-or-miss vets, but all through out Dr Tesar has been a god. He treats you like a human and has been very reasonable with charges. I've noticed some of the staff get a little stand-offish with rude clients, but I've always been nice and they have treated me with nothing but respect and often times like my babies and I are a part of their own family.
I have never been treated poorly, and have loved the levels of conversation I have had with all the people there. It is a compassionate staff and i find myself not hesitating when it comes to trusting any of their advice!
thank you AMC for the years of excellent care!

all of the doctors at Animal Medical Clinic are amazing, caring people. all three of them all have a genuine love of animals and honestly just want to do what is best for them. I have been going there for many years and have seen all three vets that are currently there. the entire staff has treated me with nothing but respect and that one receptionist is hot.

A friend of mine recommended Animal Medical Clinic to me because I was unhappy with my old vet. The receptionists and nurses were all very polite and professional, and the doctor I saw (Dr. Dilday) was great. He spent plenty of time with me and had a great bedside manner with my dog. Her teeth were bad, so he scheduled her right in for a teeth cleaning the next day. I dropped her off at 7:30 before work and picked her up that evening. The doctor even called me himself to let me know she was doing just fine! I would definitely recommend this vet to anyone.

I've been taking my cats to Animal Medical Clinic for almost four years now and they've received a variety of treatments - from clearing up a simple infection to major surgery. Every time I've been pleased with the quality of care and attentiveness of the staff. This was never more evident than when I recently had to euthanize my old and very sick cat. The staff were incredibly kind and went out of their way to make us comfortable. I'm very grateful and will continue to trust them with my pets' care.

make sure you get a breakdown of the rates before you go! twice i've been charged for services that i shouldn't have been charged for. namely, being charged 80$ for a freakin' ear cleaning that should have only been 20$. i had to bring both of my dogs in, one post op and the other just for ears and rear cleaning. the dog just getting his ears and rear done had never been there, and i was told when i made the appointment that it didn't matter, they could simply do the ears and rear, totaling 35$, especially since i had another dog being seen as a patient. afterwards i was charged 80$ and was told that doctors don't clean ears and rears without doing a physical exam. had i known that i would never ever have gone thru with the appointment. i was also told that my dog that had surgery would have his ears and rear taken care of pre op. this didn't happen. they charged me twice. complete incompetence. i have a very fixed income, so when i schedule things like this, it's budgeted and saved for.
no one in their right mind would pay 80$ for an ear cleaning!! then the receptionist argued, saying they were not charging me for the post op dog since there was miscommunication regarding the other dog, and that i should consider myself lucky. i don't feel that there ever should have been a charge for the post op dog, and i don't think a 45$ exam was necessary to clean out an ear and squeeze a rear gland. then the receptionist had the nerve to tell me that it would only be an 11$ refund, so it wasn't a big deal. are you kidding?? so they, overcharged me TWICE and then didn't want to give me my 11$ credit?? are you kidding??? what consumer wouldn't want their credit, regardless of the amount?

I have been taking my pets to the Animal Medical Clinic for the past 4 years and always had a good experience.
The staff and vets are friendly and compassionate.
I have read the bad reviews of the clinic's owner Dr. Teslar, and I have only had one interaction with him, so I can't comment on complaints about him.
However, for the past 2 years I have taken my cats to see Dr. Dilday at AMC and he's just about the most compassionate vet you can ask for.
He always takes the time to talk to you in length, is very good with the animals and appointments are usually not too hard to get.
They have very convenient hours, even on weekends (unless that has changed recently).
Just felt compelled to write a review today after reading the bad ones in the past.
The staff there seems very happy and upbeat. At least from what I gathered today.
Overall a good vibe, none pretentious, just good care for your pets. That's what's important to me.
My cats are part of my family and I wouldn't take them anywhere where they'd be harmed or mistreated.
But I also can't afford to pay SPA prices for a simple veterinary procedure.

I am sure there are better clinics than AMC.. However this place is certainly not bad at all, and I will continue to take my pets to Dr. Dilday any day.

I took my dog in recently and was horrified by the visit. My dog is very old, and was dying. She was not eating, was in pain, and it was obvious something was wrong. I wanted to know if there was anything to be done that would give her more time, but without any pain. The Doctor was very dodgy with me, and I had to ask over and over whether different things she was suggesting would actually give my dog any more good life to live. Every time, she told me it would make very little difference. This is even though I specifically told her I didn't want my dog to have to go throught tests if it wasn't going to do any good.

Then she told me all the way at the end of the visit, after having stated that there was nothing it could be except cancer, or liver and kidney issues, she suddenly tells me it could be thyroid problems (which my dog could have at least been treated for). I was shocked that the Doctor waited all the way until the end of the visit to tell me this. I think she realized I was not going to put my pup through all sorts of tests, and decided to come up with something expensive to do. I then told her to do a test to rule out thyroid issues. I went home, and as soon as I started to do some research about thyroid problems I realized not a single warning sign fit what was happening with my dog.

Either the vet was totally incompetant, or she just wanted to squeeze some more cash out of my. Either way, there's no way I will ever take my animals back to Animal Medical Clinic.

Aside from what I'd consider to be occasionally rude and incompetant Doctors, they are NOT CHEAP!

And before you use Dr. Tesar, do some research. Any clinic that employs that kind of vet shouldn't be trusted.

When I first got my kittens, I called around to a number of vets to find out all the basics (shots, litter box tricks, etc). They were so helpful and friendly on the phone to a "novice" pet owner. I've had my two kittens for 8 months now and this vet has just been great! They truly are friendly, not pushy, they really care about my boys, and if the vet has to call me back, she always find time - even when I don't have an appointment! They are great - just wish had they had boarding facility too!

Absolutely the best vet in the Portland metro area. All the staff are really caring and provide exceptional customer service. It's never a problem to fitted in when you have something urgent. Their hours are convenient and nothing seems to be too much trouble. The really seem genuinly happy to see my dog Chip. Couldn't ask for a better experience. Dr Tesar and Dr Dilday are terrific.
