For the check, they would not allow us paying with more than 6 credits cards which was really disappointing for a table of 20 people totaling $1200. Think twice if you are going to this place with a party.

I have been here many times and have yet to be disappointed. I love the atmosphere and the food is fantastic. Presentation is great, and there's a good variety of unique drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

My friends and I had a BAD experience here and we would NEVER go back. The food was very uneven in quality. Many of the dishes were simply left on their places... we couldn't eat them. I have had tapas many times in good Latin restaurants, but I've never had tapas I simply couldn't eat before. The service was also VERY BAD, and all the wait staff and hosts were rude and had a bad attitude. Finally the prices were WAY MORE than they should have been, especially because the food was not good. And WORST OF ALL, they rushed us out of there so our table could be used by others who were waiting, so we didn't even have a chance to watch the dancing, which we had wanted to do. All in all, this was a VERY BAD restaurant experience for all of us.

Cons: EVERYTHING... food, service, price, value, etc.

I always feel I can write better reviews when my parents are in town. We end up looking for nice new restaurants and everyone orders different items on the menu, giving us a better chance to truly taste a variety of items on the menu. First off, great setup, great ambience, great lighting. Had a patio which would be nice in the summer. Wine list impressive. I was surprised at how affordable those bottles were. I regret not trying a bottle, because I was eyeing the mojitos already.
Now the food. This is what wins it for this restaurant, original, themed, saucy food. We started with the mojitos (don't be too original, stick to the N27 mojito, it's good). I read good reviews for the ceviche but I felt they weren't anything to rave about. Good, original, fresh is what they need to be at baseline. But I wasn't overly impressed, maybe because my new standard now is this amazing ceviche I had in Costa Rica. It will be hard to beat but I honestly can see how people could like the ceviche here. It was very well presented, first of all, and it tasted good but it's my fault for having had something too good before. So definitely try it yourself. The meats were excellent. Can I say that again? Excellent! The market fish dish was great also but the filet mignon and Australian lambchops were well cooked and well seasoned. The sauce and sides were perfectly complimentary and very flavorful as well. Portions were all the right size. Made for a very enjoyable dinner.
For dessert, we had the flan > guava cake > creme brulee. Disappointing coconut creme brulee. The next time I come here, it will be for the ambiance, the mojitos, and the meats.
Waitstaff... very nice host. Our waiter did his job but didn't add any extra. Which is good because we had not particular requests and he didn't come ask us every 3 minutes.

3 of us went on a Wednesday night. Sat at the bar for a few drinks (hard to get service), then went to a table. Good service and recommendations from the friendly staff and the food was excellent! Portions could be a bit larger, it was hard to share some of the tapas choices between three of us. Lots of fun, good atmosphere.

It was a few years since the ast time I was here but I'll definetly be back again.

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. She told the staff in advance that it was my birthday and they treated us so well that it was almost overwhelmingly. To start, the food is good - try the calamari. We both ordered from the market menu and were not disappointed. They brought out a dark chocolate creme bru le that was delicious. The service was just the right amount of attentive yet not overbearing. The drinks were tasty and strong - try the mojitos. The wine list was impressive and we were very happy with an inexpensive Argentinian blend unlikely to found in most places.

For those who have not had a good experience here, nothing can be said - it happens to the best restaurants. I would highly recommend Nacional. The atmosphere is very relaxed, not stuffy, elegant and well-thought out. I will now change my pants since they are now moist from the gushing review just written.

My boyfriend and I went to National 27 for dinner last night...we were a little apprehensive because we saw some bad reviews...but decided to try it anyways. We both love tapas, and me being Hispanic I am very picky! But we loved this place! The grilled lamb tacos and smoked chicken empanadas were amazing. We also got the mojito flight.....best mojitos in the city..hands down! For an entree we selected the Roasted Organic Chicken and Grilled Smoked Pork Tenderloin Adobado....they were delicious! The service was great and very helpful..they even started us off with a mini appetizer on the house! We will definitely come back here!

Last night was one of the worse dining experiences of my life. From the rude hostesses, waiter and serving staff. Nacional made it clear that their protocol, is to make it your dining expereince as easy as possible for the staff -- leaving all the burden on the guest.

While the food was decent (nothing to write home to mom about) -- The expereience left me and my 9 other guessed greatly stressed. I would never waste my time or money at a restaurant with a staff that is severely un accomadating, dismissive, rude and down right condescending.

As someone who travels all over the states, as well as the world -- I have to say this was my absolutely worse service I have received in a restaurant !! Don't waste your time!

The first time I had such a great experience that I wanted more. Unfortunately the second time wasn't the same. Please don't get me wrong the food was pretty good. We ordered from the Tapas menu. The dishes were heavenly. The Ceviche is fantastic. Although drinks were sub-par.

Essentially, the service was awful. Since we had tapas, my friend and I accumulated a lot of dishes. I understand it was a friday night but that does not mean you can ignore your guests. I saw very little of our server. The wine glasses still had large food particles. We found an Ant on our table. We told the maitre d' about this. He was apologeticand we were a given a complimentary dessert. The dessert-cinnamon donut with ice cream- was a nice gesture but it was a little too late...and, since the "donut" was far overcooked, it was not a good way to end the evening.

I liked the place otherwise I would not have come back. There were a lot of couples there and it was not too single friendly as from experience. I hope other people have better experiences but I doubt I will patron this place again

Last night was one of the worst dining experiences of my life. We reported to the hostess stand as soon as our party arrived. They not only struggled to find my reservation, they had the number of people in my party entirely wrong. We then had to wait another 20 minutes, while they prepared a table for us.

Once we were seated and served drinks, I received a phone call from the restaurant. They wanted to know where my party and I were at. I stepped away from the table to address this situation first hand. They didn't even realize we were already present and seated just 15 minutes prior.

The seating was absolutely horrendous as a couple of the chairs were in such poor structural condition, they were about to give out. In addition, the upholstery on them was beyond nasty. My suit was covered in filth from them not keeping the chairs clean.

This restaurant is in some serious need of improvement for the "caliber" of establishment they portray themselves to be. I had to have numerous conversations with the manager to address issues throughout the evening.

Although this restaurant has received the "Wine Spectator Award of Excellence" for the past four years, I wonder what the folks at Wine Spectator would like to think of them serving $100/bottle wine in glasses that were dripping wet inside and out with water. I was finally able to bring this to the Wine Sommelier's attention 20 minutes later.

It's clear to me that the owners of this restaurant (Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises) have done a poor job of managing this restaurant. This was a enormously disappointing and stressful dining experience.

I'll admit I'm fairly new to this Latin cuisine style of food (and I'm not talking about burritos and tacos from a certain drive through place or ChipolFAKE or a TB(this place is a dump)K). i've been to Coobah on Southport and to Laguardia on Armitage. Both are excelent...for those everyday cravings for something Latin. But for those very special occations, this is the place to go. Their menu is has a variety of choices from 5 different styles of civeche (which you can try all at once if you choose) to truffle crusted filet mignon to the Florida grouper Huachinango; you'll want to try everything on the menu. Let's not forget a complementary "amuse" before your meal and the innovative drinks ranging from Sophia (sparkling wine from a can which is surprisingly good) to the "nuevo-popular" pina colada mojito made the right way by "mulling" the mint, surgar, and rum together. Make a reservation saying it's a special occation (mine being my 25th birthday) and get a dessert complements of the house. Make sure you bring you dancing shoes if you plan staying late night; on certain nights, the main floor is cleared out and the Latin sound busts out with the DJ playing the latest Salsa, Meringue, Bachata, and Cha Cha songs till early in the morning. Everyone needs some Latins flavor in their life and this is where to get it on that certain special occation.

Pros: Good food, Good music, Friendly staff

Cons: Moderate price for valet but cheaper than the lot accross from restaurant, prices are a bit high but worth the try, best to make early reservations especially on weekends for arrivals after 7PM

I went for the first time on a saturday night around 6:30. We couldn't get reservations, but they were able to seat us in the lounge area....which was very comfortable and trendy. Our food came out extremely fast but every time we ordered a drink it took at least 20 minutes....our coffee arrived well after our deserts were finished....and need I say, my glass of wine that I had ordered while we were still eating our meal came along with the coffee. The food was "ok" for such an international restaurant I was expecting more flavor in some of the dishes, it was a little bland. The deserts on the other hand were to die for, some of the best flan that I have ever had.

Wow, wow and wow... I see so many mediocre reviews in here, and then a few fantastic ones as well. Add this one to the "HIGHLY RECOMMENDED" pile!

Music: Relaxing (during dinner.. around 7:00) but not droaning ... you know, because some places play stuff that act as a catalyst to that "I feel as tired as I do after eating Thanksgiving dinner" feeling.... but not this place. Latin-house/bossa nova vibes set the stage wonderfully.

Appetizers: The pumpkin croquetes or something along those lines (can't remember EXACTLY what they were called). They were absolutely PHENOMENAL. Mmmm...

My date and I had two mojitos each over the course of the entire meal. First of all, it is one of the few places that uses REAL sugar cane sticks in their mojitos.... and both times we ordered, we ordered the POMEGRANITE which I now HIGHLY recommend to anyone that's a mojito lover, or a fruity/sweet drink lover in general. These are fantastic and loaded with alcohol! I came into the restaurant sober as a stone and left drunk as a skunk. That's on TOP of all the food I ate that could've absorbed the alcohol.

Bottom line: amazing food prepared in a timely manner.... unique dishes that you would really have to search hard for in Chicago to find something similar.... the bartender on Tuesday nights around 7:00 will wet your whistle with a stiff drink or two... and the service/ambiance has caused me to go out of my WAY to recommend this to my friends/co-workers/random people on the streets! ;)

My wife and I were there recently to have tapas. None of the dishes were satisfactory, and a few of them we actually decided not to eat. Our server was pleasant and helpful though. I am very surprised that people have been rating National 27 with high marks on food. I have not been there for the salsa dancing, so I cannot comment on that; Perhaps that is why the restaurant has receive such high marks. For your money, and for your enjoyment, go for anything else. There are many other restaurants that surpass National 27. I will not go back here.

I had enjoyed N27 for drinks and music so I decided to give them a try for Valentines Day dinner. Instead of live music, they played latin pop too loud for the number of people. The lighting was like a dentist's office and the decor wasn't any better. My girlfriend caught her heel on one of a million cracks in the floor. Luckily I was there to catch her as I pulled out her (plastic) chair since the host didn't bother. I've seen fancier school cafeterias. The staff were pleasant but poorly attentive for how uncrowded it was. The experience lacked the polish I expect for $300. Nothing we ate was outstanding but everything was interesting and looked good. For a holiday menu, I was impressed with the selection and quality. The cocktail list is a highlight. In lieu of new management or lower prices, I won't be back.

I called in advance to book a party for up to 16 ppl. The person who answered the phone would not take my reservation and I was told leave a VM for someone else. After several days of calling and sending an email, I finally reached someone, tried again to make a reservation only to find out that their party menu was $36 pp for food only and they were already booked. Very irresponsible and Lazy of Nacional to treat potential customers that way.

Beautiful upscale restaurant serves cuisines of 27 Latin nations in one location (in Chicago even!). The menu features starters including a variety of ceviches, empanadas, tapas and the like. Try the tuna and watermelon and the orange fluke ceviches. Entrees include a delicious skirt steak with in-house steak sauce, guacamole and salsa, and even better whole fish stuffed with shrimp. Menu also features early dining specials and a five course tasting menu for $44. Desserts include a good cuatro chocolate including four different chocolate presentations, and a pretty-good cinnamon donut one. Great service and valet parking, and a separate palm fronded large bar area occupies the front part of the restaurant.

We came in on a recommendation for the latin dancing after 11:00. The clientel was very friendly and the drink prices were what you would expect in that area. We had $9.00 martinis that were fairly decent. Crowded dance floor full of men who knew how to lead the latin novice. We had a great time. Nice mixed crowd.

It was love at first bite when they brought out a "taste," smoked salmon and cucumber seviche. The pork shoulder entree was particularly good, and the espresso flan was to die for. Ambiance was hip and unique, service was good overall. Very slow with bringing back the check, but great place overall.

If you have 8+guests, expect a prix fixe dinner. You will not be bowled over by the food. The dishes are "trying too hard". After 11:00pm, the remove the middle tables and becomes a nightclub. Not especially romantic with hungry men scoping all the women in the joint. However, I would reccomend for singles in large groups. Expect to pay at least $50-$60.

I read some of the negative reviews and must admit that I was a little apprehensive about going here, especially with my girlfriend, but tried it anyways. I can honestly say those who gave Nacional 27 a poor review must have been on something or were just in a bad mood. Of course, they just might be idiots, but that's ok.

The food was beyond incredible. Almost too nice to eat, the entire menu is worth a try. Our server was great, the music was just right, the liquor was perfect...it was a great evening and great date. I would recommend this to any couple. Definetely worth the slightly high price.

I got to say the waiter was one of the best I ever had. He was entertaining and made some great suggestions on food and wine. He even kept us entertained and checked on us just the right amount. Its on the top of my list for a date.

Food presentation and quality was excellent.
Wine was pricey, if you know what the cost is, but thats to be expected. Wine's extra profit is needed at many restaurants to stay out of the red.

This place has nice atmosphere, but the food absolutely ruins it. do not come here to eat--the dancing was ok, but i'd rather go to somewhere else for tapas than here.

Normally a fan, my most recent trip to Nacional 27 fell shy of expectations. We were seated 25 minutes after our reservation and seemingly it didn't appear to be "crowded". Our table, just outside the kitchen door, was cramped and being "bumped" by the constant waiter traffic was annoying. The food, as usual, was terrific and nobody does a variety of ceviche like Nacional.

Tasteful and creative dishes nested within chic decor. This place is a must for Chicagoans. A generous wait staff compliments each dish with helpful suggestions. The freshest lime juice enhances flavor in many dishes. Clearly, this establishment has your taste in mind. A booth is a must for a date (make a reservation) and check out the private dining areas! Try the Key Lime Martini.

I'll start with desserts :-) Excellent Churros and Ice cream, Banana Split and my favorite Tres Leches Cake. The menu has a lot of offerings with great descriptions. The beef tenderloin tapas were wonderful. Fun eating experience and delicious food.

We've always looked to trying some many of the resturants in Chicago. Sometimes we stick with a favorite but here's a good one for any occasion (even date night with the spouse!). The food was good enough to make us come back. However our waiter made the evening most exciting. Not only did he have the patience of a saint (she takes a little longer to order). The rest of the staff also did a wonderful job keeping things flowing.

Enjoy!
